    I work in law enforcement and I’m on the Special Operations Response Team. We used to utilize a figure 8 with ears for rappelling, but we have recently switched to the ATC. There’s less potential for self-error with the ATC and you are lower risk of loosing/breaking a finger. This will be my teams new go to for rescue rappelling and the 8 will just be a tool in our bags. I also highly recommend the GUIDE version, due to the ability to ascend with minor configuration to the set up.

    Bought this to replace a cheaper/lower quality ATC that I've been running for a couple years. I use this with 40 ft of 10.2mm Maxim static rope and it's been nothing short of excellent. It grips hard when you need it to and lets out rope very smoothly as it's designed to.

    The main reason I upgraded was to streamline my rappelling setup while remaining as safe as possible. The big loop on the side of it was what sold me. After I hook my rope, which is also my tether, into the ATC and connect it to my bridge, I keep tension on the ATC and move my main prusik carabiner from my bridge to the big loop on the ATC before I rappel. This way, I only have one carabiner on my amsteel bridge and still have an autoblocking device above the ATC for safety.

    If you're considering an ATC for saddle hunting, this is the one!
