    Squid Approves

I've been using this daily for espresso and filter and it works great. My only gripe is I hate that it has an auto-shutoff mode so I have to turn it on everytime I want to use it. I use it to dialin espresso so several shots usually and each time I have to turn it on, kind of a drag, but now my scale is my doser as well so it's definitely cool and working great.

Comes with a great form fitting box for travel.

    Amazing little scale

Before the Subscale I had to grab my scales, find something to pour/weight/spray the beans in, and after that I had to use a funnel to get the beans into my hand grinder without going everywhere. With the Subscale I have everything I need all in one. Just press the button, pour the beans in, spray them, shake them around, and pour into the hand grinder. Saves time, washing up & prevents spilling! Recommended

    Irreplaceably wonderful!

At the end of the day, the subscale is just another weighing scale made for coffee, though once you add it into your every day coffee ritual/routine, you will find it hard not to use it as it is water resistant enough to weigh both your input/output with and it is very accurate to 0.1 of a gram.

    Nice design, poor execution

+ I like the design, especially the hidden display, very much.

It invites to using the scale.

    - For my purposes the scale could be bigger (up to about 200 ml and 200 g).

    - The biggest minus is the button very often not being responsive and not providing feedback on its pressing.

Switching on the scale is somewhat reliable, but every other operation requires trying again and again.

At this price (and also at lower prices) the button should operate seamlessly.

    In summary:

The nice design invites to using the scale. When using it, enjoyment gets destroyed by the button's poor operation.

    Hi Frank,

Thanks for your review. Regarding the button, I suggest using your thumb. The button is placed so that if you pick the scale up like a glass of water with your thumb on the button, it will turn on. The same goes for if you want to tare it. Your fingers go around the back of the scale to stabilize it, and you use your thumb to press and get a good contact surface on the capacitive touch area. It sounds like you might be using the tip of your finger and not sufficiently triggering the capacitive sensor.

    So sleek!

The scale does everything it says it will, and does so beautifully. It works wonderfully for weighting beans, receiving grounds, dosing, and brewing into. If there's a followup, I'd love a shot timer for the later use case.

My only real complaint is getting to the scale's functions. The capacitive (non-clicky) button turns the scale on pretty reliably, but feels unresponsive once on. There's no feedback (visual, tactile, or audio), so I'm never sure if it got my press. It's so sensitive that touching the scale sends the numbers flying as it weighs the force of the press. Even single-pressing to tare is fairly unreliable. I've only gotten it to switch modes by picking it up and double tapping. I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but at least the display stops changing. Even with the current hardware, it'd be cool if one of the pixels always lit up when it registers a button press.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I wash it under running water?

It is IPX-4 splash-resistant, meaning it can be freely washed on all sides under running water but it cannot be submerged or put in the dishwasher.

How many beans can it hold?
Is Tritan safe for hot liquids
