Photos from 2025 so far that look a little more like real life.
Because sometimes there is beauty in the mess, in the moment, in the process, in the way the sun hits just right, the way the baby dolls are all lined up and tucked in, how the shoes are organized and photographed by little hands, the crumbs after a gathering, the shine of birthday balloons, the mix of patterns on an unmade bed, beauty in the little things.
This life is so violent give people their flowers now.
winter bedroom refresh ✨ ever since I was a little girl I have been picky about my space. things had to be just so and "feel" right. I was raised in a big family full of love but tight on money. there was no budget for anything extra, constant financial stress, a huge focus on helping those less fortunate, and a combo pack of shame and pride in not having a lot. I loved beauty and art and things made with care and intention, but antiques or travel just weren’t part of the world I grew up in. sooo, I learned to make things myself and get creative. I've always loved a gathered, authentic, meaning-filled style. special rocks found on hikes, handmade things (knitted, carved, woven, baked, sewed), mementos from our travels, books, plants, hand-me-downs, thrifted and upcycled items. anything that has a history and a story. (since my PhD in Victorian literature and first book, Dress Culture in Late Victorian Women’s Fiction, focused on sewing, the handmade, and working-class activism and textiles, this may start to make more sense!)
the thing is, in a rental situation, you've got to get it looking cohesive from day one but you may not have the budget to do all the things you want to do right away (we certainly didn't). my advice? focus on handmade, recycled, thrifted, and vintage items and mix them with the best quality linens, finishings, rugs, lighting, etc. you can afford. style is always evolving and when you can afford to upgrade later on, do it! again, I don't mean in a fast-fashion, fill-up-a-landfill way but in a slow, considered way.
our cabin may not look as buttoned-up as I hope it will one day, but I love the handmade things in every room, objects we made ourselves with love and intention: handmade furniture and gorgeous nature photography (both by my talented hubby!), hand-sewn pillows, macramé plant hangers, little handwritten notes, dried flower arrangements. it doesn't photograph super well but I adore our closet hanger, made from an aspen branch we found. ♡ in other words: take your time and be creative so your space feels just as welcoming as your heart!

| Never underestimate the power of paint. If you caught my stories last week you know I haphazardly ended up working on the playroom. 🙃 This was not a planned project, however, this is exactly where I was supposed to be. The kids are out for Fall break this week so I desperately wanted to finish so they could truly enjoy it. I have spent the last 6 days in here and it has already become the new hangout spot.
I will try to do a full before and after and I cannot wait for you to see the difference!

I’ve been following huansdesign on IG for a long time. She specializes in creating lifelike plants out of leather, from leaves to flowers, including many stunning rare foliage plants. I’m thrilled that despite my tight schedule, I had the chance to visit the exhibition she collaborated on with theweicraft and bring back their handcrafted artwork—an orchid flower and wood-like texture planet. 🪐
Love their work! I just had to share it with everyone.☺️
I just listed some new canvas wall flags in the shoppe (more coming soon)! But of these 4, which is your favorite?

Fun fact!
We designed this room for my son in 2019 when he was 7 and now in 2024 at age (almost 12) not much has changed! 5 years is pretty good!
So how do you design a timeless kid’s room? Here are a couple of my go-to tips:
👇👇👇
🎨 Choose a color that feels kid neutral but not too baby-ish. Think sophisticated blues and greens that aren’t too bright /brash.
🛏️ when it comes to furniture - choose practical and well made pieces that can grow with them - right on up to college!
🖼️ mix and match with decor and avoid any one specific theme that they will likely age out of

rainy Sunday no-tidy snaps. there are times when the ever-shambolic state of our home drives me up a wall and times when I find a kind of beauty in the chaos - today is one of the latter. hope you’re all enjoying your weekend xo

Can my boys just never grow up? Savoring these days where they are still young and enjoy sleeping in the same room, mama snuggles, and stuffed animals ♥️ And I love that they still let me create a room for them that they’re excited about- even if it includes a slightly wonky table my husband found on the side of the road!

rainy Saturday I’m hoping to spend cleaning out the attic and making desserts for tonight’s service at the restaurant. may your Saturday also be slow-moving and coffee-fueled. ☕️
