I love butternut squash. Not a big fan of peeling it. I have tried with my trusty OXO carrot peeler, to no avail. (And frankly, my husband was ready to give up butternut squash since I ended up asking him to peel it the last few... hundred... times.)Enter the Y peeler from OXO. I've owned other peelers that are similar, but they were not as well constructed and didn't get the job done as fast. Most are made with a plastic frame and dont feel as firm in my hand. You can also peel in both directions, back and forth, while slowly rotating the vegetable, especially carrots. This peeler has a good grip. Simple and efficient!

I bought this peeler to replace another that had a ceramic blade that was beginning to dull and chip. The OXO peeler is much, much sharper and works well, but is much wider than the other and feels somewhat bulky in the hand. The blade is quite wide and adds to the bulk. The additional blade width poses a bit of a risk to the hand holding the vegetable, since it extends beyond the area being peeled with many fruits and vegetables.
Overall, it’s very sharp and cuts well, as long as care is taken to keep the other hand out of the way. The blade comes with a plastic cover, which makes it safer in a drawer and less likely to be dulled by banging into other items. The cover is a great idea, but is made of thin clear plastic and could be sturdier and a bright color, to make it harder break or lose.
