About

Skullcrusher on Tour

Known for her angelic voice and introspective lyrics, Skullcrusher is an American indie-folk and alternative rock singer/songwriter. Unlike her moniker, Skullcrusher's sound is soft and serene, however, her lyrics come from a place of heaviness and a deep consideration of personal thought and relevance. Following the release of her debut album, Quiet the Room, Skullcrusher is set to commence her 12-stop tour across North America in the fall of 2022. Skullcrusher's live performances are filled with her beautiful voice, heartfelt lyrics and gentle instrumentals, making her feel as if she is personally singing for each fan. Skullcrusher first came onto the music scene with the release of her four-song self-titled EP in 2020. Since her debut EP, Skullcrusher has released a number of singles, including "Farm," "Song for Nick Drake," "Cloudy Shoes," and "Whatever Fits Together." She released her next fivesong EP, Storm in Summer in 2021. Skullcrusher's debut album, Quiet the Room, has a unique take on the complexity of childhood. In a statement she said, "We wanted every song to have that little twinkle, but also a sense of crumbling."

Skullcrusher Live in Concert

Born Helen Ballentine in Tarrytown, New York, Skullcrusher began her musical career by playing piano and guitar in her childhood. After high school she moved to Los Angeles where she received a graphic design degree. Skullcrusher released her first EP in 2020 with the help of producer and musician Noah Weinman. Inspired by Welsh producer Kelly Lee Owens, Ballentine stated in interview with NME, "[Owens' music] feels similar to how I was trying to explore memory, and how it can be something that's very fluid." Her dreamlike debut album, Quiet the Room, was created with the help of her collaborator Weinman and producer Andrew Sarlo. Skullcrusher's most popular song, "Song for Nick Drake," has more than 3.2 million streams on Spotify, while the artist herself maintains more than 170,000 monthly listeners on the streaming service.
