About

KEVIN MORBY IN CONCERT:

Indie folk troubadour Kevin Morby established himself in bands like Woods and The Babies before breaking out on his own in 2013 with his solo album Harlem River, an impressive debut full of gifted lyricism and accomplished songwriting. In concert Morby's crooning vocals and evocative storytelling entrance audiences on standouts like "The Dead They Never Come Back," "Dorothy," and "I Have Been to the Mountain." As he switches between earthy acoustic and echoing electric guitars, his versatile backing band augments his folk sound with everything from honky-tonk piano rolls to jazz guitar licks. With each eclectic tune and, Kevin Morby captivates ticket buyers and takes indie folk to thrilling new places.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Kevin Morby has pursued music full-time since the age of 17, when he dropped out of high school, got his GED, and relocated from Kansas City to Brooklyn. The bold move paid off a few years later when he joined noise-folk act Woods just in time for the band's 2009 album Songs of Shame. That same year Morby and his roommate Cassie Ramone (frontwoman of Vivian Girls) co-founded their side project The Babies, which gave him an outlet for his own songwriting on their self-titled 2011 debut. His time with those two groups gave Morby the foundation he needed to launch his solo career, and in 2013 he relocated to Los Angeles to record his first album Harlem River. The following year was a whirlwind of activity as he toured solo and with The Babies before releasing his second album Still Life. He returned in 2016 with his third album Singing Saw, which was lauded by critics at Pitchfork, Drowned in Sound, and Under the Radar, among others. Kevin Morby continues to build his legacy and grow his fanbase with his moving live performances and increasingly poised recorded output.

    Kevin Morby

by Elaine on 12/14/23Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Kevin Morby puts on a good show! He's a talented songwriter...and seems like a good guy (I met him after the performance). He opened for my very favorite artist, so I had listened to his work beforehand... and I've been listening to him since then. Check him out!

Seeing Kevin at the Record Bar in Kansas City was quite special. Great evening , nice crowd, The intimate venue makes for a very personal experience. Kansas City loves Kevin and it feels like Kevin loves KC!

    Great musician

by Dee on 11/1/22The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Kevin sounds even better live. Supporting musicians were great and the female vocalist Elizabeth Moen was an amazing surprise. Not being a SUPER fan my only downfall was at times things felt monotone from one song to another maybe something a bit more dynamic for the crowd. It was given at moments just wished it was maintained.

    Good music, bad sound.

by Fiscorn on 11/1/22The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

The concert was announced at 7:00 p.m. At 8:00 p.m. a not-announced supporter band (Coco) began to play. Mr Morby appeared at 9:15 p.m.! Too late! The music was good ut the sound too much loud and the bass guitar too too loud. A pitty!

    Incredible show

One of my favourite shows of the year so far. An incredible performer at once authentic and endearing while also wildly entertaining. Just loved it. Go!

    Good show, poor sound

by Adam on 11/1/22The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

Good show, tight band. Great opening act too. The only issue was the sound. Too loud for the room and too much bass that overpowered the other instruments and his voice.

    A little disappointed

by Audrey on 10/11/22The Cambridge Room at House Of Blues - Dallas

The opener sucked. I saw Kevin Morby at the Kessler last year and it was a much better show in many ways. I bought a t-shirt too and even that was much better last year. Oh well

Solid show but I expect this from smaller bands on the road, no matter how great their music is. I see why he started with this is a photograph, I assume it’s to set a level of enticement which morby did carry throughout the show. I’ve give it 4 stars for only because of the length of the show even though this is common as previously stated.

    Morbs

by Fleetwoodmacandcheese on 10/4/22The Fillmore - San Francisco

Kevin Morby dropped my jaw and blew my mind the first time I saw him open for Foxygen in February of 2014. 15+ shows and 9 years later, his live performances still give me goosebumps, tears of sadness and joy. Thank you Kevin Morby!

    Great show

by Paver on 10/4/22The Belasco - Los Angeles

Great venue, small intimate and sound was great. Staff was cool, not jerks. Crowd was really into it, which is nice instead of a bunch of +ones who don't really know the music. Didn't care much for opening act Cassandra Jenkins, a little too mellow for my liking. Kevin was great, played a solid mix of old and new.
