    Best show ever

by Thom fan boy on 7/25/23

The Smile really brought it. If you like Radiohead then this is the next best thing. So grateful to see Thom and Johnny in such an intimate setting...

    Fabulous Show

Incredible seeing Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner make Music. Brilliant artists, great tunes, generous playing in a small venue, nothing better.

Not As Great As I Hoped

    by Yespat on 7/23/23

I have seen Radiohead a number of times and Atoms For Peace as well, even traveling out of town to see them. That’s how much I love them. I had been so much looking forward to seeing them and got to know the new music to prepare. It was a surprise to me that live, the music was not as dynamic as on the cd. Typically, I have found that seeing a band live brings new meaning to what I had been listening to on their cd. This show was just the opposite. I’m thinking that there is either too much subtlety in the vocals for this particular set of songs that Thom’s voice was not able to shine in that venue or Thom’s audio system needed to be turned up for his vocals. Most of the show, the band had only 3 members. I’ve been to very powerful shows that only had 3 members so that should not have been the issue. Again I’m wondering if perhaps this collection of songs would only really go over great in a much smaller venue. The opening act was excellent but the show began so late that all I wanted was for him to be through which was too bad as he is a very talented and creative musician. The lateness of the start time of the first act meant that The Smile did not hit the stage until 1.5 hours after the stated start time. Perhaps that’s acceptable on the coasts but not so much here. Another issue is about the standing room only space….I felt so sorry for those poor folks who arrived at 6pm when the doors open so they could get a space near the stage, only to find that they were not able to see the band they paid to see until 9:30. And they were packed in like sardines, unable to relinquish their spot for any reason lest it be consumed by the mass of humanity. That this venue does not have a gradually elevated floor space is a major drawback. I get that with a flat floor space many more people can be packed in=more money however, for a show where there is seating, if you don’t have a seat within the first 3 rows, you can forget about seeing the performers you paid to see. Another thing….I sat in the lower balcony and it was absolutely freezing. We were discussing how we had wished we would have brought our winter coats and hoodies. My advice, dress for winter if you attend a show at The Factory in the summer. Overall, the show I had been so wanting to see was so much of a let down that I left early. Unthinkable given Thom Yorke was in the house. Very sad to say.

Perfect Band, Sound not so good in venue.....

    by Angart on 7/23/23

Thank goodness I was up front so I could really hear the absolute GENIUS of the SMILE. I love this group and their astonishing body of work. As I was off to the right (stage left) it was hard to hear Thom's beautiful vocals over on the left (stage right). The sound from his pa was barely audible from my position. It may be the venue, and it was my first time there, but normally these musicians (in their other band, Radiohead) play clear as a bell no matter where one is standing, even at huge venues- best heard outdoors. I was really surprised that the sound wasn't much better. Others told me that the sound was better in other areas of the venue, but I didn't want to lose my spot in the front. And yes, I would go again if I had it to do all over!

    The 🙂 in St Augustine

    by Sparky on 7/21/23

I sat at Section 102 Row C Seat 117. There was NO ONE sitting on Row C, from seat 100 through 137, except me. Yet when I purchased it online, it was the ONLY one available. How odd. Thom and Jonny played brilliantly! I was hoping to hear just a little of RADIOHEAD, but that's my fault. The trio was great! I think if I knew the music of the 🙂 as well as I know RADIOHEAD, I would have enjoyed it a lot more. Again, that's on me. I truly felt this was as close to seeing RADIOHEAD as I'll ever have. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to see them in my shortening future.
