My feet have a wider width in the toe box area (pinkey toe and the bone where it attaches in particular), yet have low volume, super high arches, and thin heels.
These shoes are good on the length, having sized up to a 10 (I generally wear 9-9.5 in all other brands). They're actually almost *too* roomy - perhaps because I have low volume feet? Zero arch support in these, and there is a fairly significant drop from heel to toe. I had to shop around for orthotic style arch supports with extra padding, 0 drop, and 32 arches to take up the extra space. Superfeet Green are my usual go-to but they also have a significant drop so wouldn't work. The shoelaces are stretchy. I get why, but they're a tad short? Something is off with them and I had to get replacements.
A LOT of work to get this pair of shoes to fit! But it's LIGHT! And breathable. My feet are happier.
The photo shows it has the same old style "bumpers" or whatever that extra plastic that sticks out around the sole. But note how it's just BIGGER overall! Almost like a Man's size.

The ‘extra’ room in the toe box does NOT make the shoes look like clown shoes. If your toes get blistered after long runs-try these!!

Original Review:
I have been a faithful Mizuno Wave Inspire sneaker user since they were first recommended to me many many years ago. My first pair were the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8, which I purchased on Amazon.com back in 2012. I have never had any issues with fit, wear and tear or the product over the years, until now. I purchased the sneaker in Dazzling Blue first and put about 250 miles on it before the shoe lace broke, but at that point, I had already purchased the sneaker in Cayenne to replace the blue sneaker in anticipation of hitting 300 miles, which is around the time I normally phase out my running shoes.
Fit - Even though I love the colors of this line, they both have serious issues with fit. They fit snugger than the prior versions of the sneaker, which could be due to the fly knit. I always purchase sneakers one size bigger than my normal dress shoe size, so I still have room for my feet to expand, but these definitely felt snugger than normal. The shoe laces are also shorter than normal because I usually lace up all of the holes since I have ankle issues and there is barely enough room to tie loops with the laces. I usually have enough room to do a runner's double knot on the old laces. After my first few runs, I realized that I had 4 black toe nails (2 middle toes, a pinkie toe and an index toe), which could only be from the fit of the sneaker. I even bought new socks with more cushion in the toe, which did not help and my toe nails are still black after about 6-7 months.
Wear and Tear - I wore these sneakers on 1 trail run up to McAfee Knob and another on a hike up Dragon's Tooth. On both hikes I turned my ankles, which I take part of the blame for since I should have been wearing hiking boots for the Dragon's Tooth and the trail on McAfee was really rough since I think more people have been hiking on it. After my McAfee run, my shoes had gouges and looked really rough. I've never seen my sneakers look like that before and I've done a lot of trail running. I did hit a lot of large rocks while running, but I guess I expected them to hold up a little better.
Product - I have never had the shoe laces on my sneakers break before. Since the laces are already shorter than normal, I tried to tie the broken ends together, but it left no room to loop the laces together. It was either buying new laces or switching to a new pair of sneakers before I hit 300 miles. I decided to chuck the shoes given my issues with them and because they were looking rough. I decided to give them one more go since I already purchased a new pair, but I'm still having the same issues--the shoe laces are short and my toe nails are still black. I've decided that this is the end of the road for my love with Mizuno and am going to be switching to the Asics Kayano.
