One of my complaints is that the resistance settings are a mechanical switch rather than controlled through the app. Seems like a miss from a design standpoint. I pedal while on meetings for work and it is quiet enough to not be distracting but not entirely silent. I found the chair wheel ring to be completely useless. While a nice idea it is not executed effectively and just pops off constantly. I gave up on it.
Aside from those minor notes, I am happy with this purchase. It helps me get some extra activity during my work day without thinking much about it.
I love the cubii and it certainly helps when I am sitting at my desk for long periods of time. If you are a fidgety person, just want some extra movement throughout the day or need a low impact exercise this machine is 100% perfect.
I then looked at reviews on here and saw many people having the same problem. Faced with a return, I emailed their support. After about 8 hours, I've not heard back from them. However, I'm an IT guy and very handy, so I decided to look into it. I could get the display to come on occasionally if I depressed both buttons for 5-10 seconds, but even then it would shut off after about five seconds. Not a fix. I read that some people felt the display wasn't getting power, and it operates on 5-volts. I measured using a volt meter and confirmed the display was receiving 5-volts, and that the USB-C cable was passing voltage to the display. That helped me isolate the issue to the display itself.
The display unit is held in with a small button clip located on the very front/top of the display. Push it in and lift the display up, and you can remove the display from the base. It has three cables which are all unique. I unplugged all three, and then unplugged the Bluetooth antenna. After that, there are four small Philips screws which hold a black cover in place. I removed those screws, separated the PCB from the display, wiped the contacts, and reassembled. I then plugged everything back in, and low and behold, the display started working fine with no issues. Turns on when you pedal, responds to button pushes, and properly charges.
I figured I'd share my experience. This is clearly a manufacturing issue since so many people have the problem. However, for about five minutes of work, it saved me the hassle of having to return this or work through support. YMMV!
Originally I bought the Cubii JR2 but returned it since having it beneath my desk made it difficult to track my progress. I'd have to crawl under the desk since the screen wasn't backlit. The JR2+ also doesn't have a backlit screen, but the bluetooth connectivity means that such a thing really isn't necessary.
It's very quiet and doesn't get picked up by my microphone while I'm in telecon meetings so I can sit there and pedal away even while discussing feature changes to whatever bit of software I'm working on. I will sit there and absentmindedly pedal away on and off all day, usually at least half of the workday in total. And even on lower settings, I feel like I got at least a moderate workout.
Definitely worth the money.
