Improved my periodontal disease in 2 months!
I saw a new dentist for a cam and X-rays in early October after almost 5 years without seeing a dentist. They scheduled me for a deep cleaning for periodontal disease in one quadrant of my mouth. I bought this toothbrush ( my first electric) right after the October appointment and used it twice daily since then ( love it and all the features). Well I had my deep cleaning today and the hygienist was amazed that the 7mm pockets were now 5mm and I had virtually no tartar and plaque. When I mentioned my new brush she felt this was what improved things. She changed my next appointment in January to a regular prophylactic cleaning rather than a deep cleaning! I am sold on this toothbrush!

    I had a different brand before this one and that one was my first electric toothbrush. One thing I didn’t like about it was the size of the brush head. It was too narrow and since it was a vibration device only, the head material being plastic was very uncomfortable to use and the vibration of the head material against my teeth was annoying if you didn’t hold it just right. The size of the head was very small and narrow so it seemed to take a long time to get the job done. After receiving and using this device, what a difference it made. Very easy to use and cleaned extremely well. The brush head size was perfect and comfortable and even though there is some vibration, it was very comfortable and easy to get used to and wasn’t annoying. As far as cleaning goes, this device was exceptional and did a fantastic job on the first try, the rotation of the heads really seem to help clean. The APP mapping of the brushing worked great and let me know where I needed to brush and for how long. It’s not a cheap brush but so far seems to be well worth the expense. It came with three brush heads and I used the ultimate clean one only so far and did a great job. The brush heads may seem expensive but if the system does what it’s supposed to do then I’m all in. So far I’m very pleased with my purchase and delivery was received overnight so delivery was quick as usual from Amazon.

    So, I'm a long-time user of Sonicare, which means I've gone through a number of them that always tend to break right at warranty expiry. Though I usually find them on sale, they are not cheap, nor are the brushes, and for the price they are still so prone to breaking down and various issues. So, when my current one started to have an issue (turning on randomly on its own, startling all around), I started shopping for a replacement. This Oral B brush went on sale, so I decided to check it out - maybe return if it wasn't all that great in comparison. At first, I was a little confused, because I thought these brushes mainly worked by rotation, but they are both that and sonication. I don't know if the vibration speed matches to Sonicare, but it doesn't seem critical. One immediate thing I noticed was the light ring which instantly lets you know if you are pressing too hard or not enough. As somebody with gum issues, this is appreciated. Next thing, do set up and try out the app. I was skeptical, but it really does a good job of figuring out what part of your mouth you are brushing, apparently by some kind of bluetooth-based sonar and something in the brush that can tell if it's facing up or down. It's not to the level of knowing which tooth, but it maps the front and two sides of both the top and bottom of your mouth, which is still pretty detailed. Rather than just using some kind of timer, it tracks that you spend the proper amount of time in each of the 6 regions. Your coverage within each region is then up to you. Sure, there are some times when it is a bit off, but I find that that tends to happen if I turn my head. So if you keep your head still, it seems to work more accurately. Not too hard to do. Besides the main brush tracking, you can set specific goals, and it will add recommendations for other steps like tongue brushing and flossing. I started a program for plaque removal. So now, instead of brushing or not kind of mindlessly in the shower one a day, I have started brushing twice a day, with more intention, and it's even slightly fun. And so far, my teeth feel smoother and cleaner. I also get less gum bleed, perhaps due to avoiding pressing too hard. I think this is still a bit pricey at full price, but maybe in this case it could be worth it for the improvement in your teeth and gum health. On sale, I can definitely recommend. Will it last long term? We'll see.

    Like i have seen in other reviews, when i first opened it, it had those dust particles on it but i just wiped them off.

    As you can i see i have achieved almost all the goals they have on the app. I hope they add more. It’s a little addicting. After I achieve the rest i dont see the point in using the app anymore other than personal logging. By now i memorized how long i should be brushing on each section of my teeth but i always ended up brushing them for longer anyways.

    Im giving it 4 stars because of the cheapy Travel case it came with. I have bought Toothbrushes that cost way less come with a nice magnetic travel case. If i dropped it, it would either crack or bust open.

    I was on the fence about getting a new electric toothbrush as my old one was no longer functioning. In the meantime I was using a manual toothbrush while I shopped around. I settled on this one because it had great reviews. I will tell you that i LOVE it! I enjoy the color reminders knowing if you are brushing too hard or too soft. I enjoy that it tells me if I brushed long enough. It is really intuitive but also comfortable and not overly complicated. A+ !

    I’ve always loved these toothbrushes as they seem to provide a much deeper clean for teeth when compared to a regular manual toothbrush. You can see and feel the difference. Noise level is the same as any other of these types of toothbrush, very minimal noise. Toothbrush vibrates at every 30 second interval, and then will vibrate multiple times at the 2 minute mark, so you always get a 2 minute cleaning if you follow those intervals. I cannot really speak on the battery life as it has never been used without a full charge or transported. My single only complaint about this, is that I absolutely hate the toothbrush head holder. It collects water, and is super flimsy. I will probably be looking to switch that out. Other than that, I highly recommend.

    The two minute timer did not work. I tried holding the on/off button for 10+ seconds as well as, downloading the app to set the timer. I contacted Oral-B and advised of this and they (I think AI Chat), advised to return the product, which I did.

    Edit. After returning the product and receiving a new brush, the two minute timer did not stop the tooth brush. However, after googling further, I found out that Oral-B tooth brushes do not stop automatically after 2 minutes, even when you set the timer for 2 minutes, it does not stop until 5 minutes. Other than the weird timer issue, this is a great toothbrush.

    I originally purchased the IO4 and really liked it (until i discovered that the charger that came with it didn't work), so i got this one instead (the IO5). It works very well, keeps the charge for about 2 weeks, has easy to use features, pretty straight forward. But ended up giving it to my husband because i personally prefer the IO4's display (actually "lack of display") and found the IO5 annoying cause as soon as i walked into our tiny bathroom it lit up and i found it "pushy", as if it was telling me "let' goooo brush your teeth!" and i found that "too much" for my taste hahahaha! So if you like the IO4 but find it too simple and would like to have a bit more of an interactive display, then this one is for you! If not, don't bother, and stick with the IO4 ;)
