The Packaging
This is a beautiful product. I'm completely biased as a designer, but the packaging is really sleek and I believe completely recyclable(?). Not shown is the paper holder that the brush came in inside the main tube. It all felt premium as I unpackaged everything. Way to go with this and the branding Colgate! In the packaging is 1 brush head (for the black version), one handle, one case, and a charging platform alongside the fold out instruction pamphlet.
The Brush
I went with the black, even though it only came with the single head and I wouldn't have it any other way. The toothbrush comes with a case that has small details that I took notice of pretty quickly. Nothing special, just vent holes and a cute touch of an outline of where the brush body and heads should go. The brush head slides off the handle with ease so I can travel with it easily. It's not loose by any means and remains sturdy--I've taken the head off several times for curiosity's sake. The full brush is light...amazingly light. I had a Sonicare og toothbrush as a teen and it weighed a ton. This one weighs...just a little more than a regular toothbrush.
The brush itself is tiny and has 4 rubber bristles (alongside the regular soft ones) which probably help with defining the angle of the brush? I've read other reviews where this bothered people. I haven't had any issues only if I press really hard while brushing--which I did once not paying attention. You're going to have to relearn brushing with this brush if you've never had an electric toothbrush! If your gums are more sensitive, I'm not sure I can recommend this brush. Another complaint from others is the small brush head and there being no alternative brush styles (yet). I was skeptical, having used a regular sized toothbrush for well over a decade, but I find that I appreciate the small size now. I can reach parts of my mouth that I couldn't easily before (I still have all my wisdoms and will be getting them removed this year, its a LOT of teeth). Also, because the one I chose is black, I go out of my way to rinse the tooth paste out the bristles every time. Minor, but a plus.
Now about the vibration. There are 3 settings: deep clean, normal, and sensitive. I basically have my brush left on the sensitive setting as I started off on the deep clean for the first brush and it was intense. The next time was better and I was more prepared. This also ties into the battery. It's been 8 days since I've charged the brush and after brushing for a second time today, I have 19% (and had 19% before my night brushing). This is even after making sure to reconnect after every brush. The brush is supposed to last 10 days, so its pacing pretty well. I suspect that the battery life is dependent on your frequency of brushing and the setting you have it on. Though I don't know if I'll get around to testing that theory.
[Update 6/18/22: for 10 days I crushed using the sensitive setting. For an additional 4ish days I brushed with deep clean. This is with brushing twice a day and connecting the the app at least once. So this battery probably lasts much longer on sensitive setting. I'm charging it now because it has 4% charge. ]
When you brush, every 30 seconds there's a special vibration during your brushing and then an additional different vibration once you get to 2 minutes. The brush will keep going till you turn it off. I appreciate this cause I sometimes take a little longer to brush, but some might hate this. The first initial brushing sees how you're doing without a timer or guidance and the app goes on from there. No matter which way I chose to brush, guided or just offline, my teeth feel great. Period.
The App
This is a good chunk of what you're paying for when you buy this smart toothbrush. The Colgate Hum app (or just the Colgate app now after an update) is full of data. It not only tracks how often you brush, but you angle and coverage. This enhanced by a selective guided brushing mode that helps you improve your brushing accuracy. Or you can just brush offline and the app will update how you did in the app next time you sync the brush. This looks like the bread and butter of the app and it does a fairly good job with accuracy most of the time.
You can also manually track how often you floss and use mouth wash! This seems basic, but flossing more was my personal goal and I've met that goal every day since I've gotten the brush. There are a few different sections on this app. The homepage shows the most recent brushing information. The Journal page shows how often you've brushed, flossed, and used mouthwash (you can set goals for all 3 for manual entry), symptoms that you can select, notes you can type in about your brushing experience and set reminders for your next dental cleaning and when to buy a new brush head!
There's an Insights page that after about a week of consistent brushing, shows you averages of your brushing coverage and duration (split between guided brushing and offline brushing), your average brushing coverage night vs day, which day you brush the best and even your social ranking of your brushing frequency vs others on the app. Today I noticed there's also trends showing if I'm getting better or worse at coverage, duration, or frequency for brushing. And then frequency for flossing and mouthwash. Here you can also scroll through your previous brushing sessions and see a month chart of how often you brush. As well as daily points.
The Points
Now here comes the additional reason for using the map: the smile points. You get 1 smile point for brushing and 1 point is basically a penny towards a discount. I got 350 smile points just for setting up the app the way I want it. You get additional points for doing challenges and guided brushing sessions, just as an example. These points can be used on the Shop page. Which you can order brush heads and even brushes and toothpaste. It literally pays to brush your teeth regularly. The first thing you see when you open the app is your points. You can setup amazon auto delivery for new brush heads in the app as well.
The (Not-So) Bad Stuff
I didn't have too many issues with this brush beyond connecting back to the app and it judging my coverage. Sometimes connecting to the app was a hassle. You need to be close as the Bluetooth distance isn't wide--which preserves the battery technically. I had more problems in the beginning than I did any other day. It's minor, but notable. The brushing coverage is always a little wonky and I fight with the angle. It's probably cause I have a big mouth and some tight spaces, but it's not so bad. I regularly get 94-98% so I'm not bent out of shape for it. There might be more issues later, but I'll just update this at the end of the month.
3ish Month Update:
So far, this brush is still one of my best purchases of the year. THAT SAID, I am just shy of owning this brush 3 months and the bristles feel dull. Definitely order replacement heads before 3 months are up if you're really putting miles on this brush (wish the Black version came with the two pack like the others). I basically had to to switch to a regular manual brush while I wait for the new brush head since the brushing experience was so dire after about 2.5 months. The best news is that I racked up enough points to pay for more than half of the cost of the 2 pack of brush heads. Not the worst thing! I still recommend.

Backstory: My old Oral-b toothbrush died on me and I needed a new tooth brush. I noticed Colgate came out with this and it was an interesting design. Modern. Sleek. Enticing. Needless to say I bit the bullet and bought this.
Design: I must say that this lil guy is super sleek and sexy. Not bulky and out-dated looking like some others in the market. I love the led lights that change color indicating the "hum" intensity change. Pink/purple: low & delicate intensity. Blue: normal intesnity. White: High Intensity deep clean. The toothbursh also pulses its LEDs white whenever it is charging on the charging base. Whenever it has reached full charge it stops pulsing. I included all of this in my video.
Cleaning Power/Brush: I absolutely love the way my teeth feel after brushing with this toothbrush. It is delicate enough not to agitate my gums yet I still feel like I get a deep clean from a high intensity rotating brush head. This is where the brush truly "wow"d me. I also love the fact that you can change the brush intensity so if you are just doing a quick touch up brush in the middle of the day you dont have to go full rambo mode on the highest intensity/deepest clean.
Convenience: I love the fact that this toothbrush comes with a carrying case that is designed for my toothbrush. I bought a generic one off of amazon for my old oral b toothbrush and it would be rattling around in my travel bag all the time. So that was amazing to see that Colgate thought of this.
Technology: I already covered the LED features earlier. But I also wanted to touch base on the real time feedback the brush gives. So during the duration of the brush the toothbrush will periodically stop "humming" (every 30 seconds) indicating that you should switch the cleaning quadrant of your mouth. Paired with the app (which I have yet to use) you can see which areas of your mouth you tend to focus heavily on and which ones you tend to neglect. So this feedback allows you to hit all four quadrants of your mouth. Top left. Top right. Bottom left. Bottom right. And after 2 minutes of brushing the brush pulses the humming 3 times indicating that you should be done brushing. I didnt try out the mobile app yet. But I very much should seeing as it would probably help visualize my cleaning habits more, but I already feel like I have 10,000 apps on my phone so I rather not install another one just to track that. I feel the pulsing of the humming is enough feedback for me.
Overall Value: I feel that this toothbrush is a great value for the price. I paid way more for my old Oral-b toothbrush and yet I feel that this toothbrush brings the even more features compared to my last toothbrush. The technology. The cleaning power. And the convenient carrying case. I cannot recommend this toothbrush enough. 10/10 would definitely buy again. Definitely worth every penny.
P.s. Funny thing. I never thought I would be going this in depth.... for a toothbrush. But alas, if you are like me and love to read in-depth reviews, then this is for you.
