Everyone’s favorite chairAdeleThis is the favorite chair of everyone in my family. It’s stylish and affordable and comfortable; you can lean back and lounge in it. It was also very easy to put together.
Great ChairWilliamThe Poang Chair is a very comfortable chair - it just fits your body. The chair contours remind me of a vintage Japanese NYChair from the 1980's except it is easier to get in and out of. The removable chair cushion makes it easy to change the color / style down the road if you want. I also recommend getting the matching ottoman; it makes the chair even more comfortable. Easy to assemble - everything is supplied including a small wrench.
“They don’t build ‘em like they used to”StuartI received my chair the other day in a couple boxes and assembled it without issue. The problem is with the material quality. The wood feels almost unfinished and constantly catches on clothing, fabric, and my hands - eventually resulting in a splinter in my palm! Nothing like the other, older, Poang chairs I’ve sat in before. Not sure if this is a defective build, or if it’s the standard now, but feels very poor for a $300 chair.

Very nice, but color not what I expectedNancyI love this chair and ottoman. Very comfortable. Color is not what we expected. We ordered the beige and it's more of a grayish bluish color. Otherwise, it looks great in our room!
Quality not what it used to beSusanI ordered the Poäng with the brown wood. It arrived in a box with all of the wooden pieces loose. Chips on the wood and absolute terrible packaging. Unacceptable! The quality of this chair is nowhere near what it used to be. The wood feels rough to the touch like it wasn’t sanded properly. I owned one many years ago and this is not comparable. Especially since the pieces were loose and there are chips and dents on the wood. IKEA-please do not tell me I can return it at a store. If I lived close to a store I wouldn’t have ordered it.
Newer not BetterJosephI have a older version of this chair and it was made with better material (wood) and better finish. There was a little bit of splitter on the the wood and parts didn't align as well. Overall it still a nice comfortable chair. But it's just not built as well as it was in the past.
Cheaply constructed, defectiveTriciaThey don't make 'em like they used to! The chair had defective parts, including splintering on one of the arms. The day after it was assembled (carefully on a carpet), a chunk fell off. Cushion wouldn't attach to chair properly, so cushion sat upright (away from curve of chair) and would make little Velcro scritchy noises any time I sat on it. Chair cracked ominously anytime I moved, and I'm only 130#.
I finally decided to return it, so I disassembled the chair and got it back perfectly into the box. IKEA had the chair picked up two weeks ago, and promised I'd get confirmation within 24-48 hours. I've called three times in the past two weeks and they just keep saying another 24 hours. Starting to wonder if I'll ever get a refund.
Perfect chairJo AnnEasy to assemble, very comfortable clean lines. Especially nice because it is lightweight enough to spend toward TV or tour conversation area. Excellent choices of colors and fabric
An excellent, affordable armchairCharlesI bought two other armchairs before I finally got this one. This is the one I was seeking from the beginning. This chair fits me so well, providing the support I need. It is remarkably lightweight, it has a slight "springiness" to it and it is affordable. I highly recommend it.
Exceptionally poor quality and customer serviceTriciaCute chair, but quality is horrible, as was customer service. One arm of the chair was splintered (cutting my hand multiple times during assembly before eventually falling off, leaving an exposed patch) and the rest of the arm was rough and snaggy. Another slat didn't have the hole cut out where an important screw needed to go. One chunk of the front fell off the first day, even though I was very careful in assembling it and did so on a carpeted space.
I asked customer service to send replacements for the faulty pieces, but they wanted me to disassemble the chair, somehow get it back in its box, lug it to a shipping store and wait for a replacement. Since I wasn’t willing to do all that and risk the replacement having equally defective pieces, they agreed to a small discount, which they then switched to store credit. A manager was supposed to call me back but never did, so after 90 minutes on the phone with customer service, I’m left with the same defective chair at full price.
Good ChairAlexanderIt's an easy to build chair that fists the aesthetic of my room. Only gripe is that I can't get a removable cover for the cushion.
Classic ComfortKatherineWe love these chairs, have bought several over the years. We like the light birch color best because it shows the gorgeous bentwood design. Five stars for the chair, my whole body relaxes when I sit down in the Poang, brilliant ergonomics. Four stars only because this is the first time we bought this chair pad, and in no time at all there is a dip in the seat. Still comfortable, but won’t last as long as previous chair pads. (My favorite was a zebra chenille we got years ago, discontinued now, it’s still gorgeous.)
Great chairAnonymous reviewerWe first encountered these chairs on a Hurtigruten Antarctic cruise. The comfort and support are great. We bought two chairs in the dark frame and two matching ottomans. He put one set together in about 30 minutes following the picture directions easily. Really like the ability to swap the cushion out without buying a whole new chair. We did have one area on the frame that was not smooth but not a big enough mar to return.
Great chair but for some the head rest is not comfortable because it’s high up. DeborahI would like to be able to adjust the head rest.

What is layer-glued wood?
With layer-glued wood it’s possible to create flexible and extra strong constructions with curved shapes, like frames for armchairs. The secret is a technique where many layers of thin wood veneer are glued together and then pressed into the desired shape. We often use wood like birch, beech, ash and even bamboo – and strive to use the raw material as smartly and efficiently as possible to avoid waste. Just like solid wood, it has natural variations in structure and colour.
