- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2021The MX Anywhere 3 is, as the name suggests, the third generation of the MX Anywhere series of Logitech mice. For some backstory, I had the original, released way back sometime in 2008/2009. I have steadily used it until 2020, where it began to develop double click (however I wasn't mad as this mouse at this point was already 12 or so years old). I intended on switching to the MX Anywhere 2, but then I found out about the 3. Knowing the original lasted me longer than a decade, I was more than willing to give this new mouse a shot.
LONG MOUSE FEATURE REVIEW BELOW! (These are my opinions on the mouse, others may have different opinions.)
This mouse is definitely a step up from the original, heck even the predecessor, the MX Anywhere 2 (and 2S for that matter). The 3's design harkens back to the original, which greets me like a familiar face. The new mouse has an auto-switching scroll wheel, where the original had to be middle clicked in order to switch between line-by-line and fast scrolling (the new 3 also includes a new replacement button, where the the original's "open multiple tabs" button used to be, for those that would still prefer a button instead of middle clicking to switch scrolling methods). Furthermore, the strength at which you spin the wheel can be adjusted for different thresholds with the Logitech app!
The shape is small, excellent for smaller hands, and is surprisingly lightweight. Including bluetooth has been a real treat, as newer computers no longer come with USB-A adapters (another reason I wanted to switch to a new mouse). And if you don't want to use bluetooth, the mouse still comes with USB-A adapter. This adapter is smaller than the original's, but be warned there's nowhere to really carry it in the mouse so put it somewhere safe if you're not going to use it! However, bluetooth response time is impeccable and smooth, and I have absolutely no noticeable latency even during high intensity gaming.
The left side still includes the two additional buttons that can be mapped to have different functions for different apps! Unfortunately this isn't a left handed mouse, so please be aware of that! (As for me, I am left handed but prefer the mouse in my right hand, so the 3 is perfect.) If you use the Logitech Options app, mapping out the buttons is really easy! There are also a bunch of options including pointer speed, scroll speed, scroll method changing threshold (as I said above), and you can even change scroll default direction! These options are all personalized to your Logitech account, so if you want, you can even export these exact specifications to another mouse that you owned if you wanted to!
In regards to color, this mouse is LIGHTER than the original. It's more of a charcoal grayish color (but then again the color is officially called "graphite") than a black. I would have preferred a true black option but the gray is nice, and fits in well with all other shades of gray and black. The scroll wheel is reflective metal, but doesn't stand out too much, and has an excellent tactile feel to it. On the sides there a horizontal "waves" that help provide more grip. They're not too overpowering and don't bother the my hand.
A note, yes this thing practically works on everything! Glass, tinted glass, cloths of different colors, marble, wood, stone, literally almost any flat-ish surface!
All in all, a MASSIVE upgrade on the original that not only harkens back to the original design, but still manages to find ways of improving! I highly recommend this mouse for everyone!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2021I've only recently bought the MX Anywhere 3 mouse (and MX keys keyboard) recently, so I may update this review in the future if things turn out differently. I'm ordering as a replacement after having two cheaper mice fail on me 3-6 months in.
My Setup:
I have two windows desktop PCs in my office (neither has bluetooth), and an LG V60 smartphone, and have paired all three to both keyboard and mouse. I purposely bought the keyboard and mouse separately, rather than as a bundle (of same price) because I wanted to be sure I received two unifying dongles and not just one.
Connectivity:
Pairing was easy both to the PCs by way of the two dongles. As I hoped, the setup works beautifully: I could connect both my mouse and keyboard to one dongle on one pc, and then also connect them to the other pc via the other dongle. This way, I avoided having to buy a separate bluetooth receiver dongle. I paired my phone over the third channel, so I'm maxed out on devices to be controlled.
At some times, I struggle to control the secondary PC smoothly, maybe due to limited range. The dongle is plugged in inside the wooden cabinet of my other desk, maybe 8 feet away (shown in second pic). I have found that my moving my mouse to another spot on the desk, I can reduce the jumpiness. Moving the dongle to a front USB port instead of a rear one also helped a lot.
Flow:
Flow is working well so far. I love that I am able to be on my left (main) PC and can wake up my secondary PC by dragging my mouse cursor beyond the right edge of my screen. I didn't want to always be waking up my other PC accidentally, so I enable a setting where the mouse only "Flows" to the other computer while I hold down the CTRL key. Genius. There is another setting to synchronize the keyboard with Flow -- with this enabled, the keyboard pairing follows the mouse pairing, as it should. Copy/paste works great so far with both text and files.
As far as I can tell, flow only works from computer to computer, i.e. I can't set it up to switch over to my phone by scrolling (Instead I have to use the button on the bottom of mouse, in which case, there is no automatic pairing of the keyboard... separate keyboard button press is required).
Ergonomics:
I am happy with the mouse. I have medium sized hands, but still wouldn't mind if the mouse were slightly larger. The extra buttons are well enough placed that I don't have a ton of accidental clicks like with my old mouse.
Scrolling:
I'm coming from a mouse that had erratic, jumpy scrolling behavior, so the bar was extremely low here. I'm happy with the scrolling and impressed by the scrolling resistance setting. Not impressed yet by the fast scroll capability (seems like a gimmick), but I may update later, after I have had time to tweak the settings and do more writing, coding, and productivity work.
Random Pros:
I can remap most of the buttons (except for front side-button and middle button behind scroll wheel) using X-Mouse button control software.
I can remap all (except primary left/right click) buttons within Logitech Options software.
Random Cons:
Click noise, as others have mentioned is medium-loud. Probably not going to wake a sleeping baby but I definitely consciously notice how much louder it is than my previous MPOW mouse, and this would definitely be a bother to someone with sensitive ears.
There is no good way to put my secondary computer to sleep and then scroll back over to my main computer. Seems that the Logitech Flow behavior instantly ceases when I give a sleep or shutdown command, so I have to resort to using the pairing buttons to return back to my primary PC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for multiple Macs/PCs! Warning Double Click problems
update: after a year usage my mx anywhere 3 compact mouse has a double click problem where everywhere that you click on clicks multiple times thus you cannot drag anything and closing a tab will close multiple tabs and so on. Drove me nuts and I thought it might have been a driver update or Mac OS update but it turned out to be a hardware problem as I bought another MX Anywhere 3 mouse today and all problems solved. I will still give this mouse a 5 star but I'll have to find out where to get this mouse replaced. Yup first world mouse problems. Otherwise great mouse after getting use to it. I use it on my gaming pc too along with 2 MacBooks with unifying receiver to ensure maximum resolution movements.
update: so it was so hard to change over from my Apple Magic Mouse over to this MX Anywhere mouse BUT because I had multiple MacBooks to control, I had to try AND here is the verdict. IT DOESNT need a mouse pad to work! I found that my desktop works much better without that erratic mouse pointer jumping when I was using the metal mouse pad. The bluetooth operates a little further than the Magic Mouse so it was a bit more responsive at longer distance. charging with a battery pack and the connection cord is at the front of the mouse; no more useless upside down Magic Mouse charging!!! wooohooooo. You do need to adjust the mouse pointer speed so it doesn't move at light speeds (default) across the screen. Once everything is set up, the MX Anywhere mouse is a charm to use especially now using the back button on the side of the mouse instead of a flick of the fingers on the Magic Mouse; small price to pay for a single mouse on the table instead of three Magic Mouse. I think the thing that sold me is the usage of the mouse on almost any surface where-as my Magic Mouse needed a metal mouse pad to operate smoothly. Now my desk can has more room sans mouse pad.
Old review: A desk full of mouses! The only reason that I did buy this MX Anywhere mouse is the ability to switch between 3 Macs/PC much like the old days of KVM switches. Except today with the Logitech MX mini keys keyboard and this MX Anywhere mouse the switching is on the keyboard and mouse and a HDMI switch. As you can see my tiny table desktop I have multiple Magic Mouse for switching between 4 MacBooks, Mac mini and one PC for VR. I just bought the MX Anywhere mouse to replace all those magic mouses. The MX Anywhere mouse is "ok" but if you having been using a Magic Mouse this is nowhere near the smoothness of a Magic Mouse especially the side scrolling but.... it is good enough and surprising that side scrolling is implemented, as that was my first question that I asked to no-one in particular and if you don't know, you hold one of the side button while your scroll with the wheel. With a Mac, the mouse is super sensitive and at a quick glance I did not see if there was a way to turn down the sensitivity within Logi options, you can with the standard Mac mouse settings but that means you will be turning down the speed of your regular Magic Mouse when you are using one. Now one thing for sure when I pair it with my PC (which I haven't) I am fairly sure that it would work perfectly with a PC as I have had so many Logitech PC mouses in the past and I am excited to use it for pc gaming as well as VR. yes PC VR gaming uses the keyboard and mouse. I think this MX everywhere mouse with the ability to connect up to 3 Macs/PC is the future of all mouses and it is a keeper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great portable bluetooth mouse
I got a laptop with only USB C connection, so I was looking for a bluetooth mouse so I wouldn't need a USB dongle and decided to try the MX Anywhere 3.
It is a great mouse with many features that are useful and can be tailored to specific software. The high speed scrolling is great to move quickly through large documents. Unlike the MX Master 3, which has a lateral scroll wheel that moves only slowly, the MX Anywhere 3 can scroll laterally slow and fast by clicking the side button pressed as you scroll (it doesn't have a dedicated lateral scroll wheel like the MX Master 3). The great thing about this mouse compared to the MX Master 3 is its greater portability. I work in an office where we need to transport our computer in meeting rooms frequently, so it is nice to be able to just slip the mouse in my pocket and walk away with my laptop and a few other things needed for my meetings. The MX Master 3 is not really pocket size, unless you have extra large pockets! I have the Anywhere 3 in the office and the Master 3 at home. I am now carrying my Anywhere 3 between home and office and I have retired the Master 3 after only a few weeks of using it. If you like the "ergonomic" design of the Master 3, the Anywhere 3 may not be for you. However, I find the Anywhere 3 quite comfortable to use, but I don't have large hands, although significantly larger than my wife.
I've been having problems with the mouse double clicking on a single click or dropping when I click and drop, but I believe it is software related (operating system and multiple software being updated frequently at the office) that interferes with it. It has happen twice in about 2 years and it lasts a few hours. I've also cleaned it a couple times with compressed air, which seems to help. In general it has been great for the past 2 years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really great functionality but a tad too small
I have a smallish 18cm hand, as measured from the base of the palm to tip of the middle finger. I've owned every generation of the MX Anywhere mouse: 1, 2s, and now 3.
In terms of ergonomics, the 2s is my best fit. The 3 is a little too flat for my palm and my fingers usually overshoot the left and right click buttons. The side material is also less grippy than the 2s but when I tried it in a local electronic store, it felt a lot better. So maybe it needs some more time to wear in.
The functionality is beyond excellent courtesy of the Logitech Options app. Other than the left and the right click buttons, the remaining 4 buttons can be customized to do almost anything: control media, open app, special OS functions, keyboard shortcuts, etc. If you set it as a Gesture Button, each button can take on 5 functions: a press, press-and-hold then move up, down, left, right. You can have up to 20 functions in your palm!
The tracking is as good as I remember since the first generation, glass, wood, plastic, bedsheet... all without issue. I connect it to my desktop using the Unifying Receiver and it has a small lag while playing Call of Duty. So it may not work as a serious gaming mouse.
1 star deducted for the slightly flatter top. Otherwise, a perfect mouse for office and productivity work if you have smaller hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars Compact, Comfortable
This thing is a tank! I’ve tossed it in bags, used it on all kinds of surfaces, and it still works flawlessly. The build quality is top-notch, and the scroll wheel is incredibly smooth, I rarely have to charge it
