Love my Neato!

Wasn't sure about this but turns out it's probabl the best household gadget ever. We live in a farm with dirt, pastures and three dogs. Our floors have never been this clean. It runs everyda and gets every square inch. Don't hesitate. Just buy one.

Great product

This robot doesn't excellent job it vacuums as well as I could it really gets  stuck. I had a D 80 that worked wonderfully. After a couple years it needed replaced and I got the D3. That was a piece of junk and was horrible. I returned it and spent the extra money on the D5. Well worth it

Well worth the money

This thing is awesome!  Purchased on a black friday sale not really sure what I was getting into.  I knew I wanted a Neato over the other major brand but I wasn't sure about a robotic vacuum in general.  Let me tell you... for our application the technology is there and works very well.  One story home, wood and tile floors, multiple rugs, and two dogs.  The neato does all but one room in 1 hour 20 minutes (we intentionally close the door to the one room) and only uses about 50% of the battery.  All-in-all it does about 800 sqft per cleaning.

I recommend running it first with you there.  See where it gets stuck and lay down barrier strips as needed.  We only needed them in from of our dishwasher.  The neato would clean under it and sometimes the power button would get hit, turning it off.  When this happens it will not return to base.  Once you run the "Floor Plan" cleaning then you can simply put a "no-go" line here and be done.

All-in-all I am very satisfied with the purpose.  I highly recommend!

Great Purchase!  Well worth the money

I bought this to replace a Neato XV21 which had the dreaded "my vision is blocked" vac. The updated D5 works well, but will not clean the 2 inch shag rug. This was expected. We have hardwood floors and the suction on the Neato was one of the main selling points. It is louder than a roomba but it cleans better as it has a more powerful vacuum. I also appreciate the fact that Neato programmed the vac to go as straight as possible instead of just in a random pattern. The squared off front does a good job in corners, and the D5 finds it's base without any problems. The connected feature is fine, nothing I could live without, primarily as this model doesn't have a remote control. The D5 is quieter than the XV21 but not by much it is still pretty loud. But it cleans really, really well. The dust bin is a little bit larger than the XV21, and they put a screen on the filter which helps tremendously when cleaning it. Overall I am happy with this, and I bought the extended warranty for 4 years, which Amazon only has a 3 year.  Why only 4 stars, I think the wireless interface could be better, and a remote function would be appreciated. The dustbin could be larger, and I wish there was a low power mode to make it quieter.

As Good as it Gets

Though is seemed to work okay, it could not handle the furniture and irregular room shapes of my house.  Did not clean into corners, especially if not right angled.  Returned it.

The part that holds the dirt bin down broke in about 13 months of use a couple times a week; it was repaired under warranty, but broke again less than a year later - not covered by warranty. The robot will not run without the dirt bin firmly in place because there is a sensor.  A $500 product should be expected to last more than 2 years.

Not durable

In a 1 bedroom apartment last year about 750 square ft and after reading several reviews on many robot vacs, I decided on this one. 

I have had it for about a year and 3 months now and I will go through the good and the bad.
The Good:
1. Powerful enough. 
2. I did try the spot clean thing a few times and it did a good job.
3. Large wheels and it's cameras are shielded by the large plastic disc that says Neato
4. It also has this technique where it raises itself on one side when going over uneven surfaces to clean or to try and clean a tighter space.
5. Cleaning it is easy, dirt bin is decent size, the app was easy to use and it was nice to see a daily report of what was cleaned.

The Bad:
1. Large wheels have  polymer /rubbery covering on them and this has started shredding
2. Powerful = good motor = loudddd.
3. Tighter space cleaning wasn't remotely close to great.  Stuck sometimes about 3-4 times a week and then some weeks never got stuck.  My furniture configuration never changed.  Weird.
4. Ability to find the charging base was faulty about 20% of times.
5. Rotating brushes that would get into corners would routinely come off.
6. Incorrect sensing of bin being full about 40-50% of the time.
7. Why not design the LCD screen to show entire error message instead of just code?
8. Error message with no code and no cleaning.  This is where the botvac is at now.  Spent quite a bit of time with tech support and tried their camera and sensor cleaning techniques.  Nothing will help.  And since I am at the 1 year 3 month mark, the warranty is over.  Takes $50 to ship, I wouldn't be surprised at getting a bill of about half of what I paid for the vac.

At > $600 or so, I am expecting the vac to last, to do it's thing and not complain half the time or get stuck and most importantly, not break down on me after 1.25 years of use.  Ridiculous price to pay for vac that can't even clean a 1 bedroom apartment properly?

Why the 2 stars?  Issues far outweigh the good.

This is my 2nd Neato to own. My first Neato lasted almost 3 years (running at least once a day). The first 10 months with this Neato botvac D5 was great! But after that time, I have had nothing but problems with this botvac. It stops after a few minutes and needs to be rebooted. It disconnects from wifi and won't re-connect. This botvac does not have a window telling you what's wrong, so you have to use the app to know what's going on with it. I was able to send our Neato botvac D5 back to the manufacturer the first 2 times (starting about 10 months in) and since that time, I have been using our extended warranty's repair facility. Thank goodness I bought the extended warranty! It's been in with them at least 6 times this year. It's been away for repair MORE time than I've had it at home. After each repair, it runs one maybe two cycles before something happens to it and it won't run. I called Neato and asked if there was anything they could do. They wanted me to pay to send it to one of their approved repair facilities. Why should I have to pay? I had it serviced by them TWICE before my warranty ran out and I was forced to use the extended warranty repair group. I'm so disappointed and frustrated because I paid $600 for a robot vacuum that didn't last a year. I won't buy another Neato after the snarky response I got calling customer service and this constant frustration of sending it off to be fixed, receiving it back 10-20 days later, running one maybe two cycles before it breaks again and starting this endless cycle all over again. Don't waste your time, find something better!

Very bad customer service. Over the air update fried the wi-fi so it doesn't connect any more and they told me I have to pay for the repair. No! Don't buy unless you want to more it from room to room and shut the door.
