Windproof Umbrella Questions & Answers

Travel umbrella benefits? Our compact travel umbrella is small, yet mighty. Designed with a waterproof double vented canopy it’s able to withstand strong gusts of wind, heavy rains, and sunny days. The windproof umbrella will bend, not break, keeping you protected from the elements. Reinforced fiberglass ribs (9 total) add stability to your umbrella. Auto open and close functions allow for easy one-handed operation, while compact size (11.5 inches) fits in any purse, backpack, car, and even pocket.
Does it hold up in high winds? Other umbrellas easily bend and invert in windy conditions. With our windproof travel umbrella, you’ll never have to worry when the forecast calls for strong winds. The double vented canopy allows air and wind to flow through without bending or breaking. In addition, the heavy duty resin-reinforced fiberglass ribs flex during high winds for added security.
Does umbrella block the sun? While our umbrellas are perfect for rain and wind, they work during sunny days as well. The waterproof coating on the compact umbrella’s canopy resists the sun’s harsh UV rays. Confidently use our umbrella outdoors and know you’re protected.
Umbrella canopy size? Don’t let the compact size fool you, our mini umbrella is equipped with a large double vented canopy. When open, the canopy measures 42 inches (61cm). Provides ample coverage for up to 2 individuals.
How to operate the umbrella? Unlike hard to use manual umbrellas, our collapsible umbrella features a convenient automatic open and close button. To open, simply press the up arrow. Umbrella will instantly open. Ideal for one handed operation. To close, press the down button and push the top of the umbrella down. Umbrella will automatically fold.

Compared Repel, Amazon, & Umenice
Looking for a lightweight and small umbrella for travel, I bought the Amazon Basics, Repel, and Umenice for something even lighter. I decided to keep 2, and I chose the Umenice and Repel, in that order. But this also seemed an overall good umbrella so read on. I weighed them myself: Umenice 9oz Amazon 13oz Repel 14oz I measured the diameters myself: Umenice 38.5" Repel and Amazon 37.75" The Repel and Amazon are very similar, both auto open, both vented designs which theoretically makes them less likely to invert in strong gusts. The Umenice is quite different, due to its silver UV-resistant fabric, manual open, and unvented. While each was open, I shook each violently up and down as if wind gusts were attempting to invert the umbrellas. The Repel 9 rib design was noticeably stiffer/sturdier than the 8 rib Amazon. Surprisingly, the Umenice 8 rib design seemed much closer in sturdiness to the Repel than the Amazon, despite being 8 rib and unvented. Perhaps the different fabric on the Umenice played a part in this. The handles on the Repel and Amazon are larger and easier to hold on to than the Umenice, however, the handles on the Repel and Amazon also have a considerable amount of 'play' between the umbrella shaft and the handle, meaning they will twist and turn noticeably in wind gusts, which is something I found mildly annoying with my last umbrella. I think this may be an unfortunate side effect of all auto open umbrellas. Another slight difference is the storage sleeve is a tight fit over the Amazon while the Repel and Umenice slide in more easily. When I bought, the Repel and Umenice we're both about $30, while the Amazon was $17. I was going to buy a Repel umbrella with a design on it to help it stand out, but I read that's accomplished with another layer of fabric and I wanted umbrellas as light as possible. The Repel advertises a lifetime warranty. I chose the Umenice first because it is noticeably lighter and smaller for travel than either of the other two, that's my most important quality in a travel umbrella, and I don't care much about auto open, particularly because that feature still requires two hands to fully close the umbrella. And in fact it seems to require 'loose' handles which to me makes a net negative. I do wish the Umenice had a slightly larger (yet still lightweight) handle which I think would add less than an ounce but make it easier to hold. I also wish it was vented, but it surprisingly held to my wind gust scenario seemingly nearly as well as the vented Repel, and definitely better than the vented Amazon. Finally I don't love the silver UV fabric on the Umenice and wish they also offered a more traditional fabric, but in theory that's an additional benefit and it does seem to be a considerably more waterproof fabric than either of the other two (which are so thin you can see light through them). The lifetime warranty with the Repel is great in theory, however it's nearly twice the price of the very similar Amazon and personally I know from experience it will go missing (not covered under warranty of course) before I went through 2 Amazon umbrellas so I don't consider that of particular benefit. It being sturdier and 9 rib is, so I'm going to keep the Repel as an extra, and for long-term comparison to the Umenice.

Seems like there's never a good umbrella available when you need it most. This one is a decent umbrella to have in your car for the days that it starts raining unexpectedly. The one draw back would be that this is smaller than I thought it would be, so if you're looking for something that will cover you from head to toe, this is probably not the one to pick. If you want an umbrella to stash in a backpack, or leave in your trunk, then this one will do the job.

    UPDATE 02-09-25:
I originally gave this umbrella a one-star rating due to my poor and disappointing experience with the first one I purchased. However, I was contacted by customer service, who offered to replace the original umbrella with a new Repel umbrella, free of charge, and let me try their product again.
I appreciated their reaching out and taking my frustration seriously; therefore, I decided to try the umbrella a second time and accepted their offer.
Five stars for lightspeed service! The replacement Repel umbrella arrived the next day.
At first I didn't get to actually try it out for quite some time, since the weather decided not to cooperate.
But now I've had several chances to really put the umbrella to the test. I've used it in windy and rainy weather and even during a couple of heavy snowfalls. And so far, I can't complain anymore. The replacement umbrella has most definitely held up better than the first one I received.
So maybe the first one had a manufacturing issue, but who knows?
Point is, I decided to update my original review, since the service department did right by me and immediately replaced the broken umbrella. So I am going from one star to five stars, since this has become my go-to umbrella for quick errands and work-related projects that sometimes expose me to the elements and I don't want to carry a larger, bulkier umbrella.
    No more bad surprises.

    OLD REVIEW:
The Repel umbrella broke the first time I used it in heavy rain and wind. That's disappointing. I had also purchased a G4Free umbrella, which definitely lived up to its expectations and came in handy when this umbrella could not even fulfill its only purpose—keeping us dry. I guess I'll stick with the G4Free brand and have already ordered a second one to replace it. I certainly can't recommend the Repel umbrella to anyone.

This is an excellent sturdy umbrella that comes with a Lifetime guarantee -- for which the company is very responsive and efficient if it needs to be replaced even when return date is a year later. It truly is a Lifetime Guarantee.

WOW this company is amazing! I purchased this umbrella last year and as an Arizonan, I don’t teach for it often. Earlier this week we had some heavy rain so I grabbed the umbrella but I wouldn’t stay open. I tried to mess with it a bit but in my frantic to shield the rain, the handle broke. I remembered that there was a lifetime warranty so I decided to try to reach out. I figured there would be a lot of back and forth and wait times in order to get a replacement, if ever. And to my surprise they responded same day that a replacement had been shipped. THE REPLACEMENT ARRIVED THE NEXT DAY!!! So happy I purchased this umbrella.
