- Reviewed in the United States on March 8, 2025This was a well-written, good (not great) standalone that I’m happy to have found during my reading slump. The main character is likable and doesn’t over-victimize herself, she can see her mistakes and own them — I appreciate that, especially in the world of overly whiny and entitled heroines.
I did feel the climax came a bit soon and the ending was drawn out. There was a “yo-yo” effect of the MC becoming safe and then being in danger again. I prefer a quick ending after the peak of a story. That being said, I thought the epilogue was beautiful and made up for the long wrap up.
**Spoiler Alert**
My heart hurt for Asa, the villain in this story. I have children of my own and the scenes describing his abuse, and the lack of love shown to him, humanized his character. He was irredeemable by the end of this story, but I wanted so bad for him to get help, own his mistakes, and be given a second chance.
**End spoilers**
Overall I would definitely recommend this book for someone who is looking for a one-off, change up from their usual reading material. Colleen Hoover is a very skilled writer and I’m never disappointed with her work.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2025Now one of my most favorite books. The twists and turns sunk me in. The real life of some. Drugs, sex, rape may cause some triggers, but regardless and AMAZING and quick read
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2025Threw will be spoilers
This book was a good read but incredibly infuriating. Carter/Luke is the dumbest character ever written. This is not an exaggeration. Everything he does is the stupidest thing he could do in a that situation. The author puts poor Sloane through the ringer. She is SA'd several times by multiple people and even has to give with knowing that Asa is her baby's father. The author couldn't even give her that tiny ray of light at the end and make Luke the baby daddy. What's really infuriating though is that even with everything that Asa puts her through she still wants him the moment he shows her any compassion. She responds to him with urgency at any tiny semblance of being treated well. Which is why the more you read you realize this isn't a love story between Sloane and Carter/ Luke, it's a love story between Sloane and Asa. I've read 3 books by Colleen Hoover and for some reason she is obsessed with painting the abuser as a sympathetic figure. Asa is the most fleshed out character in this book. He's by far the smartest character and is superior to Carter/Luke in every way.
Now this isn't as important as everything else but the undercover aspect od this book was laughably bad. Carter never does one second of police work. He never investigates anything. He never does any work for Asa. All of his time is spent trying to get into Sloane's pant and therefore putting both their lives in danger every chance he gets and jeopardizing the work of whatever cops are actually doing work on the case. It's hilarious that she doesn't even attempt to do anything with that plot.
Ultimately I enjoyed this book but I just felt terrible for Sloane. The part about the baby being Asa's was just unnecessary cruelty.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2025Reading this book as a survivor of these kids of relationships it made me cringe. I was sick to my stomach most of the reading, but I kept going. I can relate to Sloans character on many levels, and I wonder if my past Asa’s can relate to his? I’ve been thinking about how many people on the world really believe they can possess another human like property. This book has opened up some wounds but the ending is one I would love to imagine one day being my reality (minus the kid, don’t need another of those lol). I’m thankful, this was a great read! Colleen never ceases to have me at the edge of whatever seat I’m sitting on while reading. Highly recommend, if you can handle it! :)
- Reviewed in the United States on March 23, 2025Thus one definitely pulled at my heart strings. The emotional roller coaster was enjoyable and beautiful but also traumatic. My new favorite characters from cohort are Luke and Sloan. This is a good easy read that may not be suitable for someone with traumatic triggers but a heartfelt story that portrays that love is not always kind and love can be very complicated with someone who has mental issues or traumatic childhood memories but beautiful live can always be found if you are willing to change your fate.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2025One of Hoover's darker more intense novels. The suspense is relentless. Very fast paced, edge of your seat read. However, the content is very heavy and not for everyone
- Reviewed in the United States on April 19, 2025The first five pages had me questioning whether or not I could continue on. The language is rough and the issues are tough….But they both accurately reflect the lifestyle and culture of the characters. Though the events were hard to stomach at times, I couldn’t put this one down. Trigger warnings

5.0 out of 5 stars On the edge of your seat!
I've had Too Late sitting on my Kindle for several months. Truthfully I was scared to read it beacuse 1. it's a CoHo book, whom I love. 2. I've heard so much about how it's so very much out of her wheelhouse. 3. I knew I would read it far too fast and wish it was still there waiting for me to read.
Yes this is very much out of CH wheelhouse & in fact many times as I was reading it I had to remind myself that this was indeed a CoHo book. With that being said this book just sucks you in, depriving you of all other thought, just making you think about when you'll be able to get back to it after you put it down.
This book is dark, raw, edgy. But it still has a romance element that is very strong throughout. The characters were so developed and complex. The plot so very intriguing. A very well rounded storyline that should make readers happy at the end.
I highlighted many favorite quotes from this book but this one really stuck with me.
"And this kiss is just the beginning of a whole new book. A book where maybe miracles aren’t that far-fetched."

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown away!!
W.O.W.!!!!!!! This book left me absolutely speechless and in awe of Colleen Hoover's writing prowess!! TOO LATE was UNPUTADOWNABLE !!! I switched between the audiobook and ebook as I couldn't get enough! This was a truly unique story that was action packed, fast paced, gritty and unpredictable! I could see this book being made into a movie! What can I say about the characters ?! I have to admit I kinda felt sorry for Asa - this guy was smart and conniving yet in his own twisted way, I felt that he did love Sloan. And I loved the chemistry between Sloan and Carter/Luke. I loved Ms. Hoover's writing in this book - it was witty, packed full of lines which had me chuckling especially Asa's chapters!! I didn't want this book to end!!!!!
The audio was fantastic - the narrator for Asa had the perfect creepy voice that gave me shivers whenever he came on!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perturbador!!!!!
Fiquei surpresa!!!
