Editorial Reviews

Review

”A fresh and fascinating look at how Queen Elizabeth II has stayed healthy and vital over her nearly 70 years on the throne… Kozlowski’s clever and informative book will be embraced by her majesty’s many admirers, as well as by readers hoping to pick up some tips for living a long and rewarding life.” ―Publisher’s Weekly

“Fascinating, insightful and witty.” ―Jane Ridley, professor of history, University of Buckingham, author of Victoria: Queen, Matriarch, Empress

“Spot on…a well-rounded portrait of a real woman.” ―Rhys Bowen, New York Times bestselling author of The Royal Spyness series

“A fantastic book…the ultimate guide to Queendom.” ―Jessica Fellowes, author of The Mitford Murders series and The World of Downton Abbey

“An engaging and entertaining compendium of lifestyle advice.” ―Dr. Tracy Borman, author and historian, joint Chief Curator of Historic Royal Palaces

“Witty and hilarious, Kozlowski gives our generation something we so desperately need―a guide to living with simplicity and grace―courtesy of one of the most underappreciated celebrities of our time.” ―Vanessa Woods, New York Times bestselling author, including Survival of the Friendliest

“If anyone has had a good life well-lived, it is Her Majesty the Queen, and Bryan Kozlowski has brilliantly identified the key aspects of how she has achieved it. With an excellent grasp of what has made Elizabeth II’s reign unique, he has presented the techniques of leadership of this global icon in an immensely readable (and admirably respectful) way.” ―Andrew Roberts, New York Times bestselling author of Churchill: Walking with Destiny

“This book could not be more timely. As our world seems to be falling apart around us, demanding sacrifice, self-control and the courage to carry on, Bryan Kozlowski presents us with the salutary example of a woman who has lived a life of purpose and discipline in the service of something greater than herself. Thoroughly conversant with the serious and popular literature on the Queen and much else besides, he writes in a style so engaging and fun that one might miss his very serious and useful message for our times.” –Robert Bucholz, professor of history, Loyola University, Chicago

Long Live the Queen made me feel like I was eavesdropping on Oscar Wilde, the Queen Mum, and Malcolm Gladwell at one of Her Majesty’s garden parties. Witty, charming, historically astute, often wickedly funny and always genuinely inspiring, Bryan Kozlowski surprises readers on every page with adroit insight into Queen Elizabeth II’s life and practical applications for royal improvements to our own. Whether you’re an ingenue intrigued by The Crown or a lifelong loyal subject of the sovereign, Long Live the Queen! is a must-read.” ―Dudley Delffs, author of The Faith of Queen Elizabeth

“With reverence and humor, Bryan Kozlowski has written an intriguing rationale for why Queen Elizabeth is so long-lived. Part biography, part self-help, this look at Her Majesty through 23 Rules for Living is a fun―and instructional―read for a wider audience than just royal watchers.” ―Anne Easter Smith, author of A Rose for the Crown, Queen by Right, and This Son of York

“With Queen Elizabeth II securing her status as longest-reigning monarch in the world, Bryan Kozlowski's book comes at an opportune moment. Equally entertaining and erudite, Long Live the Queen! explores what keeps this 94-year-old going. Her rules, it turns out, might well just apply to all of us.” ―Arianne Chernock, associate professor of history, Boston University

“Scientifically fascinating, beautifully written and immensely practical, Kozlowski’s compelling narrative is a book I recommend to all my patients. His meticulous research has unveiled the 23 most important steps to vibrant health and lasting vitality―presented as a thrilling page-turner.” ―Dr. Helena Popovic, author of NeuroSlimming: Let Your Brain Change Your Body

“Engaging, insightful, and wonderfully grounding at a time when the world needs it most. Long Live the Queen! allows readers a thoroughly enjoyable peek inside the life of the most famous woman on Earth and lets us in on the secrets to her tremendous health and success for over nine decades….From page one, Kozlowski’s words had me believing that a brighter, more serene future lies ahead. It’s not her servants or her position that make Queen Elizabeth's life remarkable―it’s the simplicity and sense of purpose with which she lives each day. I intend to read this book several times in the coming years as a touchstone in my personal quest for a calm yet more productive life.” ―Melanie Summers, author of The Royal Treatment

“As someone who has specialized in Queen Elizabeth I, I found Long Live the Queen!, about the second Queen Elizabeth, a great pleasure to read. The author offers advice on how to eat, play, work, love, and possibly the most useful, age like a queen… This is a book to delight all who are interested in the monarchy.” ―Carole Levin, professor of history, University of Nebraska author of The Heart and Stomach of a King

“In depth research combined with expert commentary and humor gives insight into the Queen’s character and royal rituals, helping explain just why she has ruled so long.” ―Becky Libourel Diamond, research historian, author of The Thousand Dollar Dinner

“Entertaining and insightful…an engaging royal guide to life!” ―Dr. Carolyn Harris, author of Raising Royalty: 1000 Years of Royal Parenting

There is SO much to admire about our Queen. Although I'm from the US, I feel as if she's my Queen too. The writing here is charming and engaging, with a different "Rule" for each chapter. Don't be fooled into thinking you can read this book in an afternoon because it is dense with philosophy, history, and entertaining gossip.
I enjoyed the contrast between the "look at me" emotional attitude of Princess Diana (also the Duchess of York and the Duchess of Sussex) and the stoic service oriented path of the Queen. The Queen is playing the long game and so should we.
The author has deeply researched countless books and sources as indicated by the index and amusing footnotes.

This was a fun book. And a most instructive one. There are lessons to be learned that one can apply to oneself, and one certainly wishes more parents taught the attributes that make Queen Elizabeth such a royal success to their kids. I’ve already bought one as a gift for a friend who has three daughters, and can’t wait to share with others. And while there is serious information, it’s convenient with such a wonderful tone and a bit of great gossip, that it’s a joy to read.

This book was a pleasure to read, and the premise is a fun, yet also inspiring one. The author goes into depth looking at some of the Queen’s habits and personality traits, areas that she herself probably doesn’t even think about, since that’s how she’s been living, and I’m sure it’s all second nature to her. This is not just a book about the Queen, but a guide on how to live, and how to make little improvements in one’s life, sort of self-help, but in an engaging way.

My only annoyance was all the endnotes. Endnotes drive me nuts on the best of days, but this book really took the cake. Some may be irritated by the author’s bias that clearly comes through. It’s obvious that he doesn’t think too highly of Diana, Harry, and Meghan. Diana, I don’t care for nearly as much as I used to. Harry and Meghan, nope, I don’t like them at all.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book, and am considering reading his other one about Jane Austen. My only problem is that I’m not as keen on her as I am on the Queen. Don’t get me wrong. I love “Pride and Prejudice,” but other than that, I struggle with focusing on classics these days.

I truly enjoyed reading this book. In fact, I have caught myself quoting some advice and tidbits from it to my family and friends. It is witty, well researched and just plain fun and informative to read. I especially enjoyed all of the footnotes which often brought a smile to my face or a soft chuckle. I highly recommend this book and the previous book by this author, The Jane Austen diet.

I didn't expect to like this book as much as I did! I'm an Anglophile and am always interested in reading about the Queen, so I picked it up. Well, not only did I learn a little bit about her personally, but the author brought out some real truths about her habits and how they have played out in a positive manner. I thought the book might be "gossipy", but it wasn't like that at all. I liked it so much I bought a copy for my mom!

What an enchanting read. And high time someone investigated the real "lessons" this amazing woman offers the world. I loved how the "rules" in the book get progressively deeper and more impactful the further you go in. Starting with a fun look at how the Queen approaches food and drinking, it goes deeper and deeper into her psyche and mental habits until you wind up on the last chapter, understanding how the Queen approaches death itself. Very cleverly done - and something which made the book hard to put down. The parallel scientific research was also an unexpected surprise, but one which helped me understand "why" these rules are so smart and worth following. So nice to also find a chapter (or "rule") on the importance of faith and belief in God in Her Majesty's life. The author could have easily ignored this, but I'm grateful he didn't. Oh, and don't miss the footnotes scattered throughout...they have some of the best bits.
