About

THE TALLEST MAN ON EARTH IN CONCERT:

Kristian Matsson, the Swedish singer-songwriter behind indie folk outfit The Tallest Man on Earth, is a master of achieving maximum emotional effect with minimal elements. At his live shows Matsson rarely takes the stage with anything more than his world-wise voice and acoustic guitar, and though his approach is spare, the resulting sound is never lacking in depth or nuance. His evocative lyrics and experienced fingerpicking are a perfect marriage, conjuring up vast landscapes and narrative histories that remain with audiences long after the encore. Whether he's chatting up the crowd between songs or inspiring awe with moving tunes like "The Dreamer", Matsson is a charismatic performer who always captivates ticket buyers with his intimate performances on tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Even though he was born in Dalarna, Sweden, Kristian Matsson grew up playing guitar and listening to American folk icons like Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie. After being exposed to Nick Drake in his early twenties, Matsson adopted an open tuning method that has since characterized his music. He cut his teeth fronting Swedish folk rock band Montezumas in the mid-'00s, and in 2006 he made his debut as The Tallest Man on Earth with a self-titled EP. He signed to Mexican Records soon after and released his 2008 debut album Shallow Graves, a critical masterstroke that earned him comparisons to his idol Bob Dylan. Tours with Jon Vanderslice and Bon Iver followed, and in 2010 Matsson released his sophomore album The Wild Hunt to a Top 40 spot on the Swedish charts.  His third album, 2012's There's No Leaving Now, cracked the Top 40 in the US, leading to a string of high-profile festival appearances including Bonnaroo and Sasquatch. With his highly anticipated fourth album Dark Bird Is Home generating buzz in 2015, Matsson is set to deliver another round of rousing performances on the road.

    So much fun!

by Mike on 10/15/23Bijou Theatre - Knoxville

Andrea Avon Kapen opened the show at the Bijou Theatre in Knoxville, Tennessee playing solo guitar. She has a beautiful angelic voice and is a mesmerizing talent. The Tallest Man on Earth (Kristian Matasson) at times performed solo but mostly with his band of three other outstanding performers. The concert was full of energy and the entire audience was supercharged by not only his incredible singing talent but also by his mastery of a number of instruments including multiple guitars, banjo and keyboard. At the end the audience demanded an encore and we were treated with several more uplifting gems. Don’t miss this rare entertaining talent. So much fun!

    Inspiring Performance

    by Jake on 10/4/23Rialto Theatre-Tucson - Tucson

What a great show! Long time fan but this is the first time I was able to make it out and it ended up being one of the most memorable shows I’ve been to. His stage presence was transfixing and his musicianship top shelf. Couldn’t have been more enjoyable.

"Metallica plays your favorite TTMOE songs !"by K-Tel

by The Tallest Man in My Car on 10/3/23The Observatory North Park - San Diego

My wife and I saw TTMOE at the same physical venue 11 years ago, and the venue was nice and welcoming and the performance was sublime. Oh, well, things change. The venue was taken over by new management and they "improved"it. It is now very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I won't go there again. TTMOE, seems to have "Gone in a Different Musical Direction - TM", and, as I said, "Oh, Well". I don't mind TTMOE having a backing band, that's fine. I do, however, mind when the band is very LOUD and not very GOOD. Their style of play completely washed out the usual delicacy that you find in his songs. The drummer was mixed very loud in the sound and every drumbeat sounded like a gun-shot and made my ears hurt, even stuffed with Kleenex. The sound system made it very difficult to understand the lyrics, which is kind of WHY you go to see TTMOE. Oh, did I mention that the Band was very LOUD. And don't even start with the "Lighting". Annoying. Over all, an unpleasant experience that we had been looking forward to. We left after twenty minutes. YMMV. Two Thumbs Down.

    Amazing!

by Loghugger on 9/26/23Neptune Theatre - Seattle

I have loved the the Tallest Man On Earth for the better part of decades and have been wanting to see him live for that entire time. Having finally seen it I can say it was more than worth it! I laughed, I (mostly) cried. That beautiful little swedish man really speaks to me and has a crazy amount of energy on stage. Would highly recommend.

Great to be back at Webster Hall!

by Shahela on 3/13/22Webster Hall - New York

After two years of this show being cancelled, it was great to be back at Webster Hall. The performance was great, personal, beautiful lighting, and appreciated the artist for requesting vaccines to be checked even though the mandate was lifted.
