About Us
Dr. Martens’ appeal to people who have their own individual style but share a united spirit – authentic characters who stand for something. People who possess a proud sense of self- expression. People who are different.
On a stylistic level, Dr. Martens simple silhouettes allows their wearers to adopt the boots and shoes as part of their own individual and very distinctive style; on a practical level, their famous durability and comfort make them ideal for the unforgiving world of gigs and street fashion; and then finally on an emotional level, they are a badge of attitude and empowerment. However, it wasn’t always this way: Dr. Martens were originally a modest work-wear boot that was even sold as a gardening shoe at one stage.

Product Description
The Rometty is based on our traditional 2976 pattern with a thick, platform sole to take this style to the next level. Accentuated heel and vamp pannels add a contemporary feel to a well-known style.
Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

They do run a little big, im usually size 7 or 7 1/2, i have wide feet so i didnt listen to the reviews, and bought size 7 as usual. - Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2022Size: 7Color: Black Burnished WyomingVerified PurchaseLove, love, LOVE these boots! I've always wanted a pair and am happy with them now that I finally have them. Totally did not realize they were steel-toe boots when I bought them (they were on sale for 30% off!) so that was a nice bonus to discover when I tried them on the first time. They're snug around the ankle, easy to get on and off, stylish and sturdy, AND I get an extra three inches of height too! Two complaints. First is that the fit is a little loose (I'm a size 7 and ordered a size 7), but wearing a pair of thick socks, or two pairs of thin socks, makes them fit perfectly. Not a big deal considering they're my fall/winter boots for work, and I intended on wearing thick socks with them anyway. Second, the elastic on the outside of the right boot is already starting to fray :( I didn't realize that that was "a thing" common to the Chelsea boots after Doc Marten switched manufacturers, so to say I'm bummed is a bit of an understatement. I bought them in September 2022 and it's now the beginning of November 2022, so it only took about 2 months of consistent wear for the fraying to start.
JAN 2025 UPDATE: These boots are still amazing! The fraying on the side has not changed or gotten worse over the years, and I've worn them way more often than just in the fall/winter (they're super cute with ankle socks and sundresses in the summertime FYI). I purchased the official Doc Marten sole inserts, and now they fit PERFECTLY and I can wear them year-round comfortably. Also, there was never a breaking-in period with these boots, they were perfectly comfortable from the get-go.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 6, 2024Size: 8Color: Black Burnished WyomingVerified PurchaseThese are less rough to break in than other Docs I’ve had (looking at you, Jadons). It takes about two days to break them in, and during that time, there’s some discomfort but not really pain. After they’re broken in, they’re so comfortable it’s ridiculous. They look great. Docs do run a tad big, so if you’re between sizes, you could probably size down. I’m about a 7.5 but I usually stick to the 8 with boots so I have room for thicker socks. The 8 for these is very roomy for me. Other reviews mention that these are hard to get on, which they do require a little pulling and stretching, but I think some of them were exaggerating. I put my foot in vertically and use the strap to pull them on. I’ve yet to have any issues getting them on or off, and the more you wear them, the easier it gets.

- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2021Size: 7Color: Black Burnished WyomingVerified PurchaseThese boots are definitely gonna be around in my closet for a while which is the point of buying expensive leather shoes in my opinion. They are rly durable but I tried to wear them for a 12hr shift and that was rough. They are very heavy and even though the fit is great w a thick pair of wool socks to avoid my feet from sweating it still wore down my feet. Color is nice good finish and most importantly I rly like the platform since I wanted something that would add height. Price is good too for a quality brand name leather item.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2024Size: 7Color: Black Burnished WyomingVerified PurchaseAs always, I thoroughly read dozens of reviews to make an informed decision on these boots. I decided to go for it, and I want to give a bit of advice so you won’t end up with painful blisters, and cuts like I saw on some poor person’s ankles here.
As far as the sizing goes, I normally wear a 7.5 regular or wide depending on the brand (love the lack of consistent sizing for most clothing and shoes, yuck). Based on what I read, size 7 would fit best. No toe pinching at all, they are literally perfect. The top of my foot felt a little snug for a couple of days, but they loosened up just a little and now they’ve molded to my feet.
These are challenging to pull on for about 7 days. I noticed marked improvement on day 3, but still tough. I had to WORK my feet into these the first time. I want to say it took me almost 15 minutes to get them on. If you’re like me and can’t make your foot flex like a ballerina, there is hope, it just takes patience, and extra time getting dressed so you’re not late from fighting to get your boots on. 3 weeks in, and I can get them on in 2 minutes or better.
Let’s talk socks. You will need some thick socks, I went with Hanes extra cushion crew socks. I made the mistake of using ankle socks that were maybe half an inch too short, so my shins got bruised AF from the boots rubbing and pressing against them. Once I got my new socks, I folded them down over themselves so I’d have easily 2 inches of sock above boot, and extra padding from the punishing top of the boot.
Not once did my actual feet hurt from wearing, it was just the shins. I don’t have to fold my socks down any longer, as they’re pretty much broken in after 3 weeks. Thicker socks feel great with these, I’ve been wearing them to work everyday and my other work shoes are dead to me. RIP Skechers ✌🏻
- Reviewed in the United States on January 20, 2025Size: 8Color: Black Burnished WyomingVerified PurchaseI’m writing this review because no one has provided information about whether or not orthopedic inserts fit into these boots. I wear plastic, bulky inserts in all my shoes, and they fit perfectly into these boots.
I wear a size 8, so I ordered a size 8. Upon putting them on, they were a little too big and loose on my feet, but once I put my inserts in they fit fine. If I did not wear inserts, I would probably wear a 1/2 size smaller, so they might run a bit big.
Overall, I’m very satisfied with my purchase.

Size: 10Color: Black Burnished WyomingVerified PurchaseIf any of you gents wanted to be a bit braver and wear a slightly heeled boot - go for it! These are super comfy and the size is true to all my other boots - if you're size 8 go for size 8 still. My wide stubby feet fit perfectly in these without breaking in! Fantastic boot and looks amazing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Order a size smaller
Size: 5Color: Black Burnished WyomingVerified PurchaseI LOVE THESE BOOTS! I've been a fan of Doc Marten's boots for years and being only 5' I love the big chunky heals. I read all the reviews on these boots before ordering as I live in the Middle East so there was no way of trying them on. I have size 4 feet but ordered the size 3 based on so many of the reviews saying to order a size smaller. These fit me perfectly and I love them.
