In an effort to find the perfect cup of coffee, I decided to retire my Cuisinart Grind & Brew 10-Cup Coffee Maker and buy the OXO Brew 8-Cup Coffee Maker. I really liked my Cuisinart; it’s been a workhorse for many years. I stopped using the built in grinder, it's terrible, moisture gets into the grinder, clogs it up and it’s a disaster. This time around I bought a separate grinder, an OXO and I’ll review that later.
I did the research, read reviews and watched videos; the OXO seemed like a great product, its SCA certified and priced well. Of course, $200.00 is at the high end but my old Cuisinart was at the high end too.
Out of the box the OXO is perfect; it’s a great looking machine, well made and easy to use. I read all the set-up instructions and was ready to brew. I wanted to do a side-by-side comparison, so I set up my Cuisinart and the OXO to brew a 4-cup pot using the same coffee to water ratios. Here’s what I found:
Set-up both were the same, very easy but notice the OXO pot dribbled a lot when pouring water into the reservoir. I’d recommend buying a small pitcher just to full the reservoir.
Brew times were drastically different. The OXO was 4.30 minutes and the Cuisinart 6.17. Not a huge deal considering if you really need a cup of coffee in a hurry both pots can be removed while brewing but both emit a few drops of coffee when the carafe is removed.
The big difference was the temperature and taste. The Cuisinart brewed a warm cup of coffee, but the OXO brewed a hot cup of coffee. The brew temperature is very important so when I tasted both cups of coffee there was a huge difference. The Cuisinart was good but very bitter; I can’t believe I’ve been drinking bitter for all this time compared to the smooth rich flavor of the OXO brew. I’m guessing the taste had a lot to do with the OXO integrated bloom cycle which allows for optimal flavor extraction, the higher water temperature and the Rainmaker shower head that distributes the water more evenly.
Another big difference was the second cup. The OXO remained hot in the pot and tasted as good as the first. Both makers had a significant drop in temperature after the third cup, so I’m not impressed with either thermal carafes.
I’d recommend the OXO over the Cuisinart. Neither is perfect but the OXO does make a great tasting cup of coffee.

Best Coffee Maker Owned - Leaked Year Later
This is one of the best coffee makers that we have ever owned. We bought it in January 2024. It makes an incredible cup of coffee. We appreciate that it brews full pots and single cups. The carafe is relatively easy to clean with a bottle brush. For deeper cleans, you can always use denture cleaner.However after a year, the water tank started to leak underneath the coffee maker.Our unit came with a two year warrantyWe are in the process right now of getting a warranty replacement. We found Oxo customer service to be quite responsive and helpful. They asked us to cut the cord on the device and send a photo of it afterward in order to have the replacement shipped which should be here in about 3 to 5 days. We're still waiting for the new item to be shipped.

I recently switched from a Keurig pod machine to this OXO coffee maker, and the difference has been incredible! I chose this coffee maker for its design, strong reviews, and SCA certification. It offers the flexibility to brew either a single cup or a full carafe, which is perfect for my needs. The controls are minimal and intuitive, making it very easy to use. I also paired it with the OXO burr grinder, and let me tell you, nothing beats the flavour of precise freshly ground coffee! If you want to up your home coffee experience, get a good burr grinder and the OXO one came out on top for its reviews too year after year!
It does take some trial and error to get the water-to-coffee ratio just right for your taste. For the best results, I recommend using a scale to measure the grounds to water ratios, there are online calculators to help too, but once you figure out your preferences, you won’t need to weigh every time. The machine and grinder have completely transformed my coffee experience, allowing me to explore different roasters and brew coffee that feels more like a café experience at home.
While there are other SCA-certified machines out there, this one consistently ranked as the top choice in the reviews I watched even compared to the more expensive machines. The price on Amazon is also reasonable vs other retailers. This machine is ideal for anyone who wants to take their home coffee brewing to another level without getting into espresso machines. However, if you’re just looking for something basic to brew a quick cup from pre-ground coffee from a tin, there are cheaper options and this machine isn’t for you. But if you value great-tasting coffee, and want to dial in flavour, strength, and actually taste coffee notes how they were actually meant to be experienced, then this machine is absolutely worth the investment! Paired with their burr grinder you’ve got yourself an elevated home brewing experience that you won’t regret!
