About this item
- YOUR GO-TO DUTCH OVEN: A flawless pairing of form and function that doesn't quit. The Lodge Dutch Oven not only makes your kitchen look good but is an enameled cast iron classic great for preparing and serving memorable meals. Broil, braise, bake or roast your favorite meals in the oven up to 500 Degree F.
- WHAT IS PORCELAIN ENAMEL ON CAST IRON? It is glass that becomes bonded to the cast iron at high temperatures. A particulate of glass, called frit, is applied to the cast iron vessel and then baked at temperatures between 1200 and 1400° F. The glass frit melts and fuses to the cast iron, forming a bond. Porcelain enamel on cast iron is heat tolerant and impervious to water and other consumables.
- EASY TO COOK AND CLEAN: The porcelain enameled interior has a smooth finish that minimizes sticking, promotes caramelization and resists staining. Although enameled cast iron is dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon scrub brush is recommended to keep your Dutch Oven in tip top shape!
- HEAT RETENTION: The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating throughout both the bottom and sidewalls. The tightly fitting lid seals in moisture for scrumptious pot roast, stews or a large batch of beans. Our heat retention also reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking.
- FAMILY-OWNED. Lodge is more than just a business; it’s a family. The Lodge family founded the company in 1896, and they still own it today. From environmental responsibility to community development, their heads and hearts are rooted in America. Products made with non-toxic, PFOA & PTFE free material.

About Lodge Cast Iron
Founded in 1896, the Lodge family has been making high quality cookware and accessories for over a century. Lodge Cast Iron operates two foundries on the banks of the Tennessee River in the small town of South Pittsburg, Tennessee; a town Lodge is proud to call home. The company is built on family values, American history, and high quality cookware. All Lodge seasoned cast iron and carbon steel cookware is proudly made in the USA, meaning you’ll get craftsmanship that has been passed down through generations.

Cooking And Caring For Your Lodge Enameled Cast Iron
1. Allow cookware to cool.
2. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water and a nylon Scrub Brush is recommended to preserve the cookware’s original appearance. Citrus juices and citrus-based cleaners (including some dishwasher detergents) should not be used, as they can dull the exterior gloss.
3. If necessary, use nylon pads or scrapers to remove food residue; metal pads or utensils will scratch or chip porcelain.
4. Slight stains can be removed by rubbing with dampened cloth and Lodge Enamel Cleaner or other ceramic cleaner according to directions on bottle.
5. Dry cookware thoroughly before storing. Do not stack cookware.

Product Description
This 6-Quart enamel Dutch oven is great for cooking, marinating, refrigeration and freezing. The color porcelain enamel on cast iron can be used on gas, electric, ceramic and induction cooktops, as well as in the oven. Not recommended for use on outdoor grills or over open outdoor flames. Not for use in microwaves. Lodge Color Porcelain Enamel on Cast Iron cookware is cast from molten iron in individual sand molds. The porcelain surface eliminates the need to season cast iron. The cast iron vessel has superior heat distribution and retention, evenly heating bottom sidewalls and even the lid. Tightly fitting lid seals in moisture. The excellent heat retention reduces the amount of energy needed for cooking. Two layers of very hard, glossy porcelain enamel are chip resistant and easy to clean. Stainless steel lid knob is oven safe to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. The black rim on the pot is matte porcelain, not exposed cast iron. Hygienic porcelain enamel is non-reactive with food. Although dishwasher safe, hand washing with warm soapy water is recommended to preserve the cookware's original appearance. Made in China.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 1, 2013Color: Island Spice RedVerified PurchaseI purchased the Lodge 6 qt. enameled dutch oven in Island Spice Red. I bought it to replace a cheaper enameled dutch oven that I had received as a gift and which had discolored almost immediately when used.
So far this dutch oven has not discolored - and I have used it almost 2 dozen times to make things such as soup, stews, tomato sauce and several pot roasts. I let the pot cool down and then hand wash it in hot soapy water, using only a nylon scrub brush or synthetic scouring pad to remove any of the stubborn areas. So far it looks just as it did when I took it out of the box. I usually use only wooden utensils when cooking in it as I know metal could scratch the surface - and I am sure over time scratches would lead to discoloration.
As for the size....the 6 qt. is perfect for my needs. I have done meals for 4 or 5 people and it has always been ample enough to handle the job. When I make pot roast I usually do a 4 lb roast and it handles that plus the carrots and onions and potatoes just fine. Cooking it at a long slow braise (275 for 4 hours or so) everything comes out perfectly.
As for clean-up, when I cooked my first pot roast, I opened the lid and it was heavily coated with caramelized cooking juices and quite darkly stained. I thought this was going to be the beginning of a long, intense scrubbing and cleaning session that would result in discoloration of the inside of the lid. After letting it cool, and using just a nylon scrub brush with plenty of soap and very minimal effort, it was completely clean and like new!
I had also read reviews that were negative regarding the way the lid was manufactured, thus producing a gap between the pot and the lid, allowing for excess evaporation - which would be a problem with long slow braising in the oven. Later reviews said that this seemed to be fixed in newer product and I was very happy to see that it was no longer an issue. The seal is secure between the pot and the lid.
I would recommend taking care when using it, as with any enamel ware, and use only wooden or silicon utensils whenever possible. Also, as the insert recommended, remember to lift the pot and not drag it across oven racks and burners (this requires some muscle when the pot is full) - so as not to scratch it.
It has already become an invaluable piece of cookware in my kitchen, and with the proper care I am hopeful that it will remain as such.
As for the being made in China and concerns about lead...I did quite a bit of research regarding the lead in cookware coming out of China and feel confident that Lodge is closely monitoring its production to insure the safety of its cookware. While I do wish it was not made in China, it is one of the main reasons it is not well over $200 dollars like other top brands and is the main reason I could afford it. If I am ever able to find a Le Creuset outlet where I can buy just such an item at a reasonable cost I would definitely do so - but for now I am very happy with my purchase of the Lodge Dutch Oven.

THIS IS AN UPDATE TO MY INITIAL IMPRESSIONS REVIEW BELOW
I have been using this Lodge enameled cast iron Dutch oven for eight months now. I have made many dishes with it, including pot roast, birria, Hungarian goulash, and chili. All came out perfect and delicious. Best of all, it still looks brand new. No staining and not a hint of rust.
I'm extremely pleased. So much so that I have upped this review from four stars to five stars
Highly Recommended.
(Initial Review Below)
This is an "initial impressions" review based on my first use of this item. I plan to update this review in a few months after more experience using this item.
First, as a basis for comparison, I should note that I own several pieces of French-made enameled cast iron cookware from Staub, Le Creuset and Made In, as well as some Chinese-made pieces from lesser known brands. This includes three enameled cast iron Dutch ovens in smaller sizes from Staub and Le Creuset. I bought the oldest one of these maybe 25 years ago, and it still looks and works like brand new.
I also recently purchased, used, reviewed - and returned - a highly-rated Chinese-made 6 quart enameled cast iron Dutch oven from another manufacturer, which sells here at Amazon for a similar price to this one. That one was absolutely gorgeous out of the box. But it rusted and stained like crazy with ONE use. Ridiculous. Thus, I returned it.
This one looked very nice out of the box, but not as "pretty" as the one I returned. The enamel seems a bit thin - especially as compared to my French-made Staub and Le Creuset enameled cast iron Dutch ovens. So I have some concerns about long term durability. On the other hand, a similar-capacity French-made enameled cast iron Dutch oven from Staub or Le Creuset would have cost at least three times as much as this Chinese-made item from Lodge. And Lodge is an old, established, company with a hard-earned and well-deserved reputation for quality value-priced cookware.
All that notwithstanding, in its first use the performance of this Dutch oven was outstanding! I slow-cooked a pot of chili with beans and sun-dried tomatoes for several hours on the stove top and it turned out perfect and delicious. The thermal capacity of this beast is truly impressive.
Meanwhile, not a speck of rust . . . which is as it should be. Cleanup was not exactly a breeze, but it wasn't really very hard either. In the end, it looked like it had never been used. Hours cooking a full pot of chili with tomatoes presents quite a challenge to an enameled cast iron Dutch oven - especially one with a white or cream colored interior. However this one stood up to that challenge and met it.
Anyway, so far I am very pleased with this Lodge enameled cast iron Dutch oven. Since this is only an initial impression, and I do have some concerns about the durability of the enamel, at this point I'm only giving it four stars. However I plan to come back here later this year after having used it more extensively and update this review. At that point, I might upgrade it to five stars.
But . . . so far, so good!

- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2024Color: Island Spice RedVerified PurchaseI've been using this for a few years and I can't imagine a time when it wasn't a go-to cooking tool. I use it for all kinds of recipes, and it works as a skillet with high walls, as well as a pot for soups or pasta dishes that require lots of movement within the pan. I've also used it for braising in the oven. Along with my cast-iron skillet, this has become one of my most versatile kitchen tools. I've also given this as a gift before, as the bright red finish gives it as much aesthetic appeal as it has utility.
The only critique I have is that there are some spots along the rim where the enamel is chipping and cracking. But they are only minor and as long as they don't get worse or lead to rust on the cast iron, it won't be a concern.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2025Color: IndigoVerified PurchaseThe cast iron retains heat so well, and the enamel coating is easy to clean, even after cooking sticky or hearty meals. It’s also beautiful enough to serve from straight to the table. The 6 quart is a good medium size to have in the kitchen!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is now my favorite pot
Color: IndigoVerified PurchaseI have a cheap stove, so it's not easily possible to stew things at lower temperature with regular pots. The heat dissipates too quickly, so it just stops simmering. Not with this pot: It has amazing heat retention, so it has become indispensable since I bought it. It is extremely heavy though, which is to be expected by such a large mass of cast iron. Maybe it can double as a makeshift bomb shelter in a pinch.
I guess any dutch oven has to measure up to Le Creuset, which I don't personally have any experience with. However, I can see that the Le Creuset costs at least twice as much on Amazon. I doubt that it can be twice as good because this pot is damn near perfect. At 6 liters, it is a bit too big for two people, but that's hardly Lodge's fault.
Only disadvantage to me is that the lid edges are kind of rough so they feel like unglazed terra cotta. That means that putting the lid on, taking it off, or moving it makes a scraping sound which I personally hate more than nails on a chalkboard. Fortunately, the lid is very heavy as well so it's not like you move it around too much.
I'm kind of blindly rating its taste though. I have not tried eating it because I find cast iron too hard to chew, but I have to assume it's delicious.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Cast Iron Dutch Oven!
Color: Island Spice RedVerified PurchaseFinally bought a big enamel dutch oven that's affordable, well made and very good looking!
I put 3 whole chicken leg (about 300gm each), 4 thighs (about 600gm), 4 chicken wings (about 600gm), 2 onions, and 4 packets of brown shimeiji mushrooms into the 6-quart dutch oven and baked them in an oven. The meat turned out really well. They were soft and juicy and the whole family loved it.
The next time I cook this dish, I will experiment with shorter baking time & lower temperature.
