About this item

  • [48 Colors] Gansai is traditional Japanese watercolor, utilizing colors that are based off those seen in nature, meaning they are vivid and opaque. Pans are carefully filled with paint that is smooth, not granulated, and dries with a slight shiny finish.
  • [Flexible Techniques] Paints do not leave hard edges when dry, making flat-washes easy to accomplish, and are easy to layer with proper technique.
  • [Brush Dexterity] Gansai Tambi Pans are much larger than typical watercolor pans, giving you the ability to use both small or large brushes quite easily.
  • [Palette and Color chart included] Within each Gansai Tambi set is a protective sheet that not only keeps your pans from shifting but can be used as a palette mixer. Each box also includes a color chart so you can swatch the colors yourself and distinguish between them quickly.
  • [Beautiful Packaging, Ideal for Gift-giving] Water-based pigment is ACMI-certified, and packaged in a simple cardboard box with elegant green washi overlay. Perfect for gifts.

Beyond the typical watercolor
I just received this set and actually had to stop mid-swatching to show you all something I have yet to see with any other brand, something that I think might be representative of the quality of these paints. I’m about 3/4 of the way through the set, swatching each color in its designated spot on the back cover of the palette and the additional separate swatch sheet (very convenient).YA’LL… LOOK AT MY WATER! I use two water jars and haven’t changed them once yet. Have you ever used more than two or three colors and had anything other than a musty, dusty gray/brown color in your water? I’m almost through the entire set and my water looks better than the colors I actually TRY mixing with other brands.Since I’ve only swatched so far, I don’t know how well these paints work together when properly mixed, but just judging on the color of my rinsing water, I imagine that these paints are going to mix together beautifully and offer an extensive range of colors. I’ll try to update this review after actually painting with these but right off the bat, this set gets 5 stars from me and I only expect to become more impressed with further use.TLDR; Beautifully packaged, great assortment of colors, highly pigmented, extremely large pan size, paints rewet/awaken like a breeze and are super smooth on paper, can be more opaque than traditional watercolors by using less water, appear to mix together flawlessly, RIDICULOUS value for price. 5/5

I love the fact that you can use them so they are solid color, and you can use them for transparent watercolors, and everything in between. They blend beautifully, and the colors are rich and a delight to use, and keep their vibrancy on the paper. Kuretake Gansai Tambi Watercolors are good quality, saturated, and fast dissolvable. Strong pigment, easy to use, but the pans are half full, as most of negative feedbacks mention. They are also the same size in all sets, interchangeable and replaceable, which is a good idea.
Flimsy box of carton but they can be moved in a better box as you work, selecting only whet you need. They may come broken from transportation but they have a film over and the pieces are not lost, just need a bit of water to stick them back in the pan.
The quantity of color in a pan will be enough for 2-3 big artworks of a professional painter. Since we do not use them all in the same time, the set will be uneven consumed and fast. They cannot be used directly from the pan, if you work on a transparent watercolor painting, must be diluted on another well to keep the same color, because they are very concentrated, saturated colors. If dry the color will crack but can be activated fast with water. They are specially made for oriental painting where you do not re-touch the work but with a bit of patience can be used by a professional if you like the pigment. Uneven balance between value and quantity.

I had been using watercolor in the tubes, but it’s so messy and such a process to get it all together. But I had never really liked the cake watercolors, they weren’t strong enough, saturated enough. After someone told me about these, I decided to try. The color saturation is great. The ease of use is wonderful, I’m so happy with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Una paleta super completa y pinturas de alta calidad
Reviewed in Spain on March 12, 2024
    Style: 48 colorsVerified Purchase
Llevo muchos años pintando con acuarela, y he probado bastantes marcas y formatos.

100% recomendable
