What can I say? It's a Cuisinart! Yes, I am sold on Cuisinart products! They have not failed me yet! (I've had my blender/food processor/chopper since 1990, and it is still going strong!) I needed a 2nd table-top burner. When I saw this one, (even though I could have gotten a cheaper one) , I knew this would be the better purchase. I have bought Cuisinart products in the past and have been very pleased with my purchases. The quality and performance alone is worth it to me! This burner has a normal weight, not too heavy, it is as described. 😁 It's definitely worth every cent!
The only draw back is that I got the chrome top, instead of black. Chrome (for me) is harder to keep clean than the black. 😁. That was my mistake, not the fault of Cuisinart. 😁 It does clean up well, it just takes a little more work. 😁.
It is not a self shut off unit, that I am aware of. However, whenever I cook anything, and it's about done, I will TURN OFF the burner 5-10 minutes before the food is done. Yes, it takes that much time to cool down.
I use this almost every day. It is a whole lot easier to clean up than my ceramic top stove, and I think it uses less electric (110 amps) instead of my Ceramic top electric stove (220 amps). And this burner take LESS time to heat up than my ceramic top stove. The cooking is more efficient, too, in terms of say, chicken n Noodles. I can not make this dish on my ceramic top, as it fluctuates in temperature, trying to maintain an even temp. It is that "shut down" time, (temp fluctuating) that causes my noodles to become tough, instead of fluffy. This Cuisinart table top burner maintains the temp (like a coil burner) and my noodles come out perfect!) 😅
I am thinking about getting a 2nd one. Sometimes I need 2. I had another brand (for about 6 mos. before it died. 😞. Another well known name, but the product did not hold up.
I am definitely buying another Cuisinart table top burner!

Decent for homebrewing
This review is from the point of view of someone who bought it for brewing beer from extract outdoors. Where I live it gets very hot in the summer; brewing indoors makes the house steamy and fights with the air conditioner - so outdoors is a better option. I bought a gas burner for brewing outdoors, but it actually puts out too much heat and gives me bad boilovers. If I turn it down enough that it doesn't boil over, it smokes something awful, covering the underside of my brewpot with soot. So I thought I'd try an electric burner instead - should be safer, more convenient, and easier than dealing with a propane tank and all that. This works pretty well and gives off a lot less waste heat than my gas burner did. Unfortunately it's a little underpowered for this task. Even at maximum, it takes a couple hours to bring the whole thing to a boil, and while it does sustain a boil, it never reaches a good rolling boil unless the lid is on. With the lid on, my 4-gallon pot will boil over, so it's very tricky to use; I can keep up a good boil without boilover if I leave the lid half-on just so. Alternatively, my 10-gallon brewpot does a good boil with the lid on and doesn't boil over, so I've taken to using that. It's less convenient, but works better. So for purposes of brewing, I took off a star in my review. Otherwise this burner is excellent. I've even taken to using this for brewing indoors, rather than the gas stove. I take off the grates etc. and place this there under the hood, then I can still have it vent most of the steam (my wife's allergic to hops) while generating a lot less waste heat than the gas range does. It takes longer, but it's worth it. Incidentally Cuisinart, if you should make a similar model that puts out a bit more heat, if you send me one. I promise a fair review--and probably a good one, seeing that I'm very pleased with this one overall.

In-depth review:
Bought it pre-pandemic when our home was being demolished and replaced with a prefab, the whole family was living in a garage together for the few weeks it took. This thing was used every single day for about an hour and it performed excellently. Then, once the virus hit but before we had access to the now widely available rapid tests, I wanted to sequester myself to try to protect my family after I was exposed. I used this hotplate inside the guest bedroom so I did not need to leave the room or ask others to cook for me. (photo attached of the isolation set up)
I've had the hotplate for a total of 3 years now and it has never had an issue. After the break-in heating the manual tells you to do, I never had it smoke without cause or get too hot in inappropriate areas (like the heat control knob) that others experienced. Definitely set it where you want it for the whole cook time - once it has been running for more than 5 mins on high I would recommend never attempting to move it without oven mitts on because the sides become too hot to comfortably touch. With how thin and compact this is I'm not surprised and don't consider this unreasonable but it may matter to someone else. It has never damaged any surface it has been set on so although I can't handle it barehanded it is not so hot as to harm plastics or wood. As other reviewers noted, it can be extremely slow to boil larger pots of water - to me this is the number one downside. For pasta with around 24oz of water it would boil around 7-12 minutes, but if you needed a higher water level, say closer to a half gallon's worth, it would be 25-30 minutes before the pot boiled.
A final note for those who do decide to buy this - when you first purchase it I highly recommend doing the initial warm-up run outside (though somewhere a child or pet would not touch it!) or in a well-ventilated garage; I'm not sure if I recall correctly, it may have been to get an anti-rust shipping coating of oil off the cast iron surface? The instruction manual was quite clear, it's just been three years since I did it. Boy did it have an odour during that first run, but never again after that.

Surprisingly Efficient Burner!
Doing a kitchen reno & needed a burner to cook from. Was skeptic all about the efficiency of these burners. So far was easily able to boil vegetables, pasta & potatoes on high. Was just as easily able to simmer rice. Water gets to boiling temperature as quickly as my stove burner. All pot types fit on it. Easy to clean.
