About Us
Fletchers’ Mill is proud to be “Made in USA”. We craft our wood pepper mills, salt mills and rolling pins in our factory in New Vineyard, Maine. We also source many materials and parts from local and regional vendors. Today the Fletcher family business has its own modernized sawmill. The wood is then dried in one of 6 kilns. Once prepared the wood is then introduced into the manufacturing facility where it is turned or molded into one of thousands of various items the mill produces. As Doug Fletcher likes to say “From raw logs to the finished product the entire process is done in house and under a watchful eye.

Product Description
Making great cocktails is an art. And this medium, like most, requires good quality tools. Fletchers' Mill 11-Inch Cocktail Muddler is made of solid, American hardwood. Use it to mash and crush citrus fruits, herbs and spices; use it for making drinks such as mojitos, mint juleps and caipirinhas. It's a barware essential. And, it's an indispensable kitchen tool. Ergonomically shaped handle, provides more force and less hand and arm stress. By Fletchers' Mill. Made by artisans in Maine, USA. Fletchers' Mill is a family owned company. For two generations, the Fletchers' family has owned and operated the finest mills and manufacturing facilities for crafting wood pepper mills, salt mills, muddlers and rolling pins. Tradition and wisdom passed down from a family of roll-up-your-sleeves American entrepreneurs, the current generation of Fletchers grew up in the company before taking ownership, working in the business from the sawmills through the mechanics to management - knowing the business from top to bottom. In the modernized sawmill, local maple or cherry logs are processed into boards, squares and dowels and then kiln dried. The prepared wood is then turned or molded into one of the thousands of items. Most of the sawdust and scrap wood generated is used to heat our factories and kilns and the rest sold to local business who manufacture wood pellets used to heat homes. Located in the western mountains of Maine, sourcing wood locally and from Forest Stewardship Council (FSW) certified suppliers, employing around 100 people - Fletchers' Mill+AE7 represents quality, community, sustainability and craftsmanship.

OP...This appears to be a solid, well made muddler. I replaced the muddler that came in a kit, which had a lacquer finish and felt cheap. I didn’t want whatever finish it was chipping off into my cocktail.
This new muddler feels good in hand, has a smooth even cut and texture. It is unfinished wood, so it would need to be treated with mineral oil as you would an end-grain butcher block, or any “naked” wood handle.
I filled a shaker pint with food grade mineral oil and soaked the muddler for a couple/few hours then flipped it to soak the remaining exposed part overnight. (Part of the muddler stuck out, so finding a taller glass would’ve worked to get it all at once). You can see in my photo, this is right after removing from the oil and wiping the excess oil. I’ll let it acclimate through the day and wipe off anymore excess oil before it goes into the drawer or before I use it.
I haven’t used it yet, but I’m confident this will solve the splitting issue other reviewers have faced. You can see in their photos, their muddler is pale and dry as a bone with the splits. It’s a fair expectation to not have to treat this product with oil once received, but I wouldn’t knock the quality for it. This just comes with experience.
You can see mine took the oil well and turned a nice golden honey color. Once the oil and wood acclimates, it should be well sealed for endless cocktails without a hitch. (And oil going into your drink isn’t a concern given mineral oil’s hydrophobic nature, same as a butcher block or cutting board)

I use it for pounding cabbage for sauerkraut/kimchi, and as a muddler for my fruity summer drinks. It's perfect for both, as the tength keeps my hand above the top of the glass or jar while allowing me to grip it firmly and comfortably, and the flat surfaces with slightly rounded edges on each end make it versatile for the type of glass or container I am using.
Surprisingly, I use this all the time to muddle ingredients, mash fruit; it holds up well and is pleasant to use. Go figure!
