Revolutionize Digital AudioLots of digital devices, like Blu-Ray players, TVs and PCs, have DACs built in, but often they leave much to be desired when it comes to sound quality. DacMagic 100 bypasses these inferior processors and decodes the digital audio itself to deliver a vastly improved sound. |
High-Performance DACA Wolfson WM8742 DAC is at the heart of the DacMagic 100. This is where the magic happens, accepting playback of up to 24-bit/192kHz high-resolution digital audio files. |
Connect Up to Four Devices SimultaneouslyDacMagic 100 features 2x coaxial inputs, 1x optical input and 1x USB Audio input. Controls on the front panel let you switch between sources, so once you’ve connected up to four devices, you won’t have to worry about cables again. |

This is not my first DAC I started with the SoundBlaster X-Fi and noticed a lack of depth and width in my music collection. I am very serious about my digital music listening experience, My entire library is FLAC most are 44KHz and run at an average of 1000 kbps. I do have some that run at 8000 Kbps and 96KHz
I use Winamp Pro with the MonkeyMote app. DAC connects to a Niles amp that feeds two mains and a balanced subwoofer connection. I can say without a doubt the DAC Magic 100 has improved the soundscape of my music collection by a factor of 10 over my last DAC.
Seperation has improved to the point I find myself looking over my shoulder only to realize its a sound or instrument that had until the DAC Magic 100 had been buried, severely muffled or lost in the data stream.
A few words of advice for anyone considering a DAC in general
Disable ALL sound devices/onboard sound cards this will insure that the music file is not being altered before it reaches the DAC
on windows this can be done by way of the device manager
DO NOT use a home theater A/V unit the onboard electronics will "down mix" your HiRes audio files basically destroying what the DAC just fixed. Invest in a good Amp and have a separate stand alone system for your music collection. I know this sounds obsessive and if it does you don't need a DAC just listen to Mp3.
However if you notice your music sounds flat two dimentional and lifeless and if you are on a budget but want true 24bit/96Khz playback this is the DAC for You!
Setup is straight forward and requires you (if you use a windows computer) to download drivers from Cambridge Audios website ... DO the extra work and use the USB2 driver it makes a difference.
I gave this DAC a four star review due to the lack of customer support. Cambridge Audio recommends that you use a ASIO software plugin with your player in order to get the best sound. I did so and when I play 96Khz audio files it does this strange "fast forward" on those files. I contacted Cambridge Audio three weeks ago to assist me with this problem and have yet to hear back ... major FAIL on their part and while I am happy with the product running Nullsoft Direct I won't buy another product from Cambridge Audio
Next one will be the Schitt Audio Gungnir They have AMAZING customer service answered all my questions EVEN THOUGH I was not yet a customer... just couldn't afford the $749...Yet
UPDATE IMPORTANT!
if you use Windows 7 or later and use the Cambridge Audio USB2 driver you DO NOT need ASIO plugin. Still miffed no one at Cambridge made me aware of this fact however I will sit down for some Humble Pie with a side of Crow ... great DAC even better now after the 100 hour burn in so five stars even if customer support is lacking ...
