I've heard so many good things about using Madagascar vanilla over the years. I've always been hesitant to buy some because it can be costly and hard to find. When I saw that McCormick had this I thought I'll give it a shot. I use vanilla to make my very own almond milk. If you have a high power blender, almonds, a small piece of vanilla bean, and a nut milk bag you can do this yourself instead of buying it. When I took sip to taste test the almond milk, all I could say is "wow". The flavor was very smooth and apparent instead of an aftertaste. I'll be using these vanilla beans for now on.

Wow!!!!

I selected the McCormick Gourmet all natural Madagascar Vanilla Beans to review because I wanted to make homemade vanilla extract. Because there are only two bean pods in the bottle I had to make a mini-batch. I sliced each pod lengthwise to expose the tiny beans inside - there is no need to scrape the beans out of the pod. They may be cut in smaller lengths to fit the bottle. Place the bean pods in the bottle - I used the bottle that contained the beans. Add 1/4 cup of vodka. Replace the cover and shake well once or twice a week for 8 weeks and your extract should be ready for use. Keep out of direct sunlight and store at room temperature. Enjoy!

Nothing beats the smell of vanilla!

I like to use natural products when cooking and/or baking. But sometimes it's hard to find good quality products without driving a great distance and paying extraordinary prices. I was thrilled to find McCormick Madagascar All Natural Vanilla Beans online at Walmart. I love using vanilla beans. The vanilla beans give my recipes excellent flavor and being able to see the beans in finished products is an absolute delight!

These vanilla beans, packaged two per jar, was offered by Walmart for review and asked for it for the specific purpose of making home made coffee liquor, (Kahlua).
There are many recipes for this, but I used a variation on a classic that's tried and true. If you've ever smelled a vanilla bean, you know it's quite a bit different than extracts, and this bean is absolutely critical to a fine tasting coffee liquor. Unfortunately, the recipe requires about 4 weeks for the vanilla bean to completely infuse with the liquids, so I will not be able to comment on the finished product, but I can state from experience that it is better than store bought and really makes fine gifts.

Very fine, aerobatic vanilla bean.

As a Spark reviewer I am reviewing McCormick all natural Madagascar Vanilla Beans, which I received this current review cycle.
I received my Madagascar Vanilla Beans and decided to make rice pudding, stove top, stirred, not baked. Ummm, Ummm. So much better with McCormick Vanilla Bean.
I make rice pudding frequently. It is one of our favourites.
I slit the McCormick Vanilla Bean pod down the center and then scraped the seeds from one end to the other to get every last speck of seed.
These were very plump vanilla bean pods, but I used all of the seed, and also threw in the pod while the milk, sugar, etc., was cooking down.
I used to make rice pudding in two steps, using water first with the rice and cooking down, then adding the 4 cups of milk 1% or full fat, etc.
Now, I follow Giada's recipe from Food Network, and just cook the rice with 4 cups milk, sugar, etc., and McCormick All Natural Madagascar Vanilla Beans. What a difference. The smell is heavenly.

Just the best. Excellent flavouring

From your first opening of the jar, you'll experience Madagascar's production of high quality, premium vanilla beans, with a rich, sweet flavor and aroma. These vanilla beans were soft, pliable and fragrant, indicating that they were packed fresh and the essential vanilla oils had not dissipated. I use vanilla in a number of recipes, and among my favorites are making economical homemade vanilla extract by splitting a vanilla bean and dropping it into a pint bottle of inexpensive vodka or rum and storing away in a dark cabinet for a month, shaking occasionally; the liquid can be replenished and the vanilla bean can be changed as needed. Vanilla sugar, used in baking, in coffee or on cereals, can be made by splitting a piece of a vanilla bean and burying in a cup of sugar, stirring occasionally. Make your own vanilla syrup for cocoa or coffee by boiling equal parts sugar and water until thickened, stir in a piece of split vanilla bean and pour into a bottle, cap tightly and store in refrigerator (this can also be given as gifts – or added to club soda for a refreshing homemade cream soda). The seeds of a scraped vanilla bean enhance the flavor of homemade vanilla or chocolate ice cream, cookies, cakes and frostings. Because of the quality and freshness of these beans, I definitely recommend them.

Versatile vanilla!

These vanilla beans are great for making cakes, frosting, or even homemade extract. They add such a great vanilla taste, without being overly sweet. The only downside is that these particular vanilla beans are a bit more expensive then I have found, though the taste and quality are basically the same. Overall, though, they are very good.

Good, but pricey

I was looking forward to reviewing these vanilla beans, for one, vanilla is one of my favorite flavors and two I love making homemade vanilla. I buy my vanilla beans in bulk so I know I can get them cheaper than if I buy them by two. So if you only need 2 beans and you want to fork over nine dollars and change buy McCormick, if you need more than two and want the freshest beans look elsewhere. These 2 beans were a little dried out but not as bad as I've seen.When I buy mine in bulk and you open the bag the oil is very present, but when I handled these 2 beans there wasn't any oil. Whatever your end use is and how quick you plan on using the beans requires a little planning. Buy the freshest ones possible for the best results and don't let them sit on the shelf to dry out.

A disappointment.

I have to say I was a bit disappointed when I finally got my vanilla beans in the mail. I ordered these so I could use them when baking for my child's birthday party but they did not come on time. I have noticed that when it comes to consumables Walmart.com is very slow with the shipping, they are speedier with their non-consumable products. So if you need your consumables in a hurry, just find a store. I also think that the description was a bit misleading as well. It stated that the product was a “2 count” which I was under the impression that it was 2 jars of vanilla beans, not 2 beans total. I really was expecting a few more beans for the price. I have never used vanilla beans before but $10 for 2 beans seems a bit over-priced to me. From now on I will just stick to extract or even the paste, it taste the same but a lot cheaper.

Over Priced

The bottle arrived unsealed and had two very small vanilla beans inside. I thought, this is odd that it's not sealed in any fashion. I needed the vanilla beans for homemade ice cream so I went ahead and emptied the contents on to a plate. I took a double take as I saw a long thick curly dark hair (about 4-5" long). My appetite dropped like a rock. I have never ever had a hair in anything I've purchased before. My suspicion is that someone is taking the McCormick bottles and filling them at home for resale with 2 vanilla beans when it was probably suppose to be 4 pieces. Since I've mentioned quantity, let's talk quality the two pieces were no more than 3 1/2 to 4" in length and they were extremely thin. Since I paid over $11.00 for them I was not a happy camper, even without the hair in the bottle. P.S. I thought about taking a photo and didn't bother with it thinking I wouldn't be posting a product review.
