Pedals fell off after a year.

Pedals fell off after a year.
I bought this to help me with rehab after a medical adventure made me have to relearn how to walk. I loved that it connected to my phone via an app. I loved that it had different levels of resistance. It has taken me a year and a half to work my way up to being able to use it daily for 30 minutes at a time with a resistance of 4. That may not sound like much but when I first got it I could use it for 5min on first resistance twice a week. I have not abused it in any way, I’m the only one that uses it in my house. I’m always sitting when I use it. A few months ago the right pedal came off. My husband was able to put it back on, it fell off again a week later. My husband put it back on and reached out to the company. It was past a year and we had not paid for any type of warranty (can’t remember if one was offered), we were told they can’t help us. I am no longer able to work due to my medical adventure so cannot afford to replace it. Super disappointing.

Overall I’m very impressed with this under the desk elliptical!! Getting the Bluetooth linked device is fantastic for monitoring my increased activity. Pedaling for a few hours a day makes a big difference in my activity level without too much stress.

Really I’d give this a 4.5. I have two gripes so far 1) if I have the Bluetooth enabled device why am I having to manually change resistance settings? I know it’s cheaper and lighter to make it manual buuuuttt it’s super annoying to lock my chair in from rolling and then try to reach down and change resistance. 2) I love that you included the ring to stop my wheeled chair from moving. This really makes a big difference in usability for me. Buuuuut the ring does not stay hooked to the elliptical that little tiny nub in the second picture is supposed to stay hooked into the hole on the front of the device. Does it matter so far? Not in my set up fortunately, just setting a wheel of my chair in the ring is enough but it might matter for someone else. Also getting my chair in the isolation ring and then getting close enough to my desk to comfortably work is kind of annoying :/

Over all this does what I want it to do! It’s solidly built and looks to be well manufactured. I have plenty of clearance under my desk which is great because I’ve tried other cheap pedal solutions without much luck. I’ve only been using it a few days so if that changes I’ll update this. But I’d recommend this to anyone trying to up their movement or calorie burn while working at a desk.

It really does help
Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2023
I ordered this and received in in early February 2023. Upon unboxing it and setting it up, I plugged in the USB-C cable and noticed that the display did not turn on. Figuring I did something wrong, I triple checked everything and came up empty handed.

I then looked at reviews on here and saw many people having the same problem. Faced with a return, I emailed their support. After about 8 hours, I've not heard back from them. However, I'm an IT guy and very handy, so I decided to look into it. I could get the display to come on occasionally if I depressed both buttons for 5-10 seconds, but even then it would shut off after about five seconds. Not a fix. I read that some people felt the display wasn't getting power, and it operates on 5-volts. I measured using a volt meter and confirmed the display was receiving 5-volts, and that the USB-C cable was passing voltage to the display. That helped me isolate the issue to the display itself.

The display unit is held in with a small button clip located on the very front/top of the display. Push it in and lift the display up, and you can remove the display from the base. It has three cables which are all unique. I unplugged all three, and then unplugged the Bluetooth antenna. After that, there are four small Philips screws which hold a black cover in place. I removed those screws, separated the PCB from the display, wiped the contacts, and reassembled. I then plugged everything back in, and low and behold, the display started working fine with no issues. Turns on when you pedal, responds to button pushes, and properly charges.

I figured I'd share my experience. This is clearly a manufacturing issue since so many people have the problem. However, for about five minutes of work, it saved me the hassle of having to return this or work through support. YMMV!

This is my second cubii, (cubii JR was the first one and I loved it!) I wanted to track what I was doing throughout the day, so I bought this one instead. Straight out the box the screen flashed and then turned off and I thought it was defective, so I started the return process, BUT a previous review stated that the top of the screen comes off and the cords could be unplugged and reinserted. This helped! It was super simple to do- if you can change a fuse in a car you can fix this!

I love the cubii and it certainly helps when I am sitting at my desk for long periods of time. If you are a fidgety person, just want some extra movement throughout the day or need a low impact exercise this machine is 100% perfect.

Edit - I did ultimately decide to return my second Cubii. I had expected better quality from something costing $200+. Even though I really enjoyed being able to get some exercise while sitting at my desk all day at work, it was just too loud to use around other people. If I had been using this at home, sitting in front of a TV, I probably could have just ignored the clicks, clunks, and grinding noises. I'm assuming that's what most people do. So, it says it could take up to 30 days to get my refund (minus $30, I'm assuming I'm being charged for shipping) so now I just have to wait.

So, I deleted my old review because it was just too long. I'm on my second Cubii JR2. I returned the first one after it got so loud I couldn't use it anymore. I think the problem is that the quality just isn't there. This is NOT a heavy duty machine. On both machines the clicks and thumps just got so loud after a month of use. The first one I returned because of the noise and got a replacement.

I had hoped the first one was just a bad unit, but after using the second one for over a month I see these just aren't made for heavy use. I use mine for 1-2 hours per day, 5x a week. I wouldn't even call that heavy use. Every morning when I first start, I get a quiet grinding noise like the parts are rubbing inside. After a while the sound gets quiet. But, now there is a constant clicking sound that doesn't ever go away. Sometimes the pedals start shifting/jerking, like something inside is slipping. It's not on the outside, I've checked multiple times to make sure the screws holding the pedals in place are tight. I think the only thing I can do is open this up and see what the problem is. But, after spending $200+ on a machine, I shouldn't have to. Overall, just disappointed in the quality of this machine. I want to keep using it because at least I'm getting some exercise now, but even if Amazon let me I can't just keep returning and getting a new machine every month when it gets too loud.

My father lives with my family and his mobility has declined. He used a Trendmill but doesn’t feel safe on it, so we purchased this for him to have an opportunity to keep moving. We tried another pedal type one and it just didn’t work for him. He loves his Cubii and it is now part of his daily routine.
