I wish I had the opportunity to get this sooner!
Since it was on sale, I was finally encouraged to purchase this, and from a month of daily use I can attest to much cleaner teeth. The water flushes out food residue quite effectively, and I find there’s not as much plaque buildup since it washes most of it away. If anything, it encourages me to thoroughly clean, as opposed to just not flossing since it’s so difficult and sometimes painful.
I was concerned with the countertop footprint, and it’s surprisingly small—it takes a little more space than a large bottle of mouthwash. It’s also aesthetically pleasing, and the functional design—although simple, is very efficient, and in a way, makes its use less complicated—I’d like more storage room however, for extra tips. I also like how you can choose the pressure level, although I try to stick around level 2 - 6 since I find my gums are delicate. Removing the tips are really easy too, and are well-made. The range of tips it comes with is awesome, although I wish it came with another PikPocket or tongue scraper instead of an orthodontic tip since not everyone has braces. It is a bit loud though, but you’re using it for 5 minutes at most so it’s bearable.
It looks overwhelming at first, but once you get it, it’s very easy to operate—just follow the beginners’ instructions. And it’s also a little messy at first when using, but make sure to stay close to the sink to let the water drain out of your mouth.
Another attribute I enjoy is how easy it is to maintain the Waterpik: it’s only necessary to do a deep clean on the unit every 1 - 3 months! (although I’d aim for 1 month because of the way it uses water). I wish my humidifier were that low maintenance! All it takes is vinegar and water. I suggest watching the instructional video they have on YouTube to clarify the process. To maintain a unit like this every month means it’s designed quite well in that regard.
In all, I had no idea how much I’d end up loving this Waterpik, and how it enhances my dental care routine. I just hope they make the price for tips more cost effective for maintenance. Otherwise, I’m quite pleased!
Update (6/12/22):
I use this Waterpik practically daily, especially for this weird space where the contact between teeth is large (due to poor dental work) and I find that a lot of food debris gets caught—I would often find myself shocked at the disturbing amount of food that flushes out, even after brushing or flossing! It has been also been extremely HELPFUL for those ‘pre-floss’ situations where the food gets so packed in the crevice that using regular floss will only push the particles into the gums. In cases like those, I will use the Waterpik first to flush out as much as I can before using the floss to really make sure everything is out.
I also haven’t been cleaning it as regularly as I should, but it still seems ‘clean’. Again, well made regarding maintenance. I just try to suck out the remaining water in the pik itself after use to prevent mold from building up in the wand.
Otherwise, I cannot imagine dental care without this Waterpik. I even purchased one for my sister-in-law who has a bridge. If you have any dental issues like I’ve experienced, then I’m sure you’ll find it useful as well!
