About us
CōTZ was founded in 2002 by a plastic surgeon whose singular mission was to create mineral sunscreens that people want to wear daily. The result was an all-mineral sunscreen collection that feels elegant while keeping your skin safe from harmful UVA-UVB rays.
CōTZ contains no chemical sunscreens, which can be irritating, penetrate your skin, and absorb UV energy. Mineral sunscreens are inherently gentle, and work by reflecting away harmful uv rays. So you never have to worry about harmful rays heating up and absorbing into your skin.
We care deeply about providing the safe way to protect your skin.

No white cast which is why I use it. Have to use daily due to having got skin cancer.
So this one melts into the skin nicely with minimal effort and virtually no white cast. I probably wouldn't use it on the face as it's a little heavy for my oily/combo skin, but on a child's facial skin it would work just fine. It's not sticky at all, so if you're an adult with dry facial skin and/or don't mind a bit of dewiness, it could work on the face, too. I just prefer to invest in more lightweight elegant options for the face - and in general they seem to make more elegant formulas for the face in under 2oz sizes so they're not really applicable to the body, which is a bummer. While this isn't as small as the ones made for the face, since you need much more for the body, I wish it came in a 5oz size for the price. I have tested like 30 different mineral water-resistant options by now, and this one along with the C'est Moi sunshine sunscreen are the two best I've found. If price is a factor with this one, I would recommend checking out C'est Moi as it is similar in texture, also leaves no white cast, is also fragrance-free, is also completely zinc oxide formulation, and cheaper.
Most importantly, if you have kids, this would make applying sunscreen on them much easier, since it's impossible to get kids to sit still for more than a couple seconds before they run off.
But last week, I had to be on a boat for 4 days without much of a base tan. I decided this was not the time to risk it. And after tons of searching, I decided I’d give this one a shot.
I don’t hate it. That sounds like faint praise, but those are the most positive feelings I’ve ever had towards a sunscreen in my life.
Firstly, it did its job. I did not burn, even spending 8 to 10 hours a day on the water. I should note, I’m Southern European/Mediterranean, so even when I’m not tan, I’m not exactly fair. If you are, SPF40 might not be enough for you, but you probably know that.
Secondly, I did not look like low-light bicycle safety gear. That’s always nice.
And thirdly, it is not slimy. It’s not as matte as I would like, and I can still feel it a bit for 10 or 20 minutes after applying. But it’s not extremely annoying, and if you have dry skin you might not notice. If I had one critique of this sunscreen, I wish it was just a little more matte.
And finally, no break-out. It’s almost a week later, and my skin still seems perfectly happy.
Congratulations, Cotz. You have made a sunscreen I might actually wear from time to time. That is a feat of engineering dozens of companies have failed to achieve.
