Love my lattes!
I use this every single day to make myself a latte. It was super easy to set up, figure out how to use, and I enjoy my latte every morning. I’ll make guests lattes all the time too (or anything else they’re wanting). I’m not good at getting the milk foamy enough for latte art, but it all drinks the same haha.I’ve had it 10 months and given that lattes cost like $5 when you go somewhere, and that I got it on a killer Amazon sale for $370, it’s easily paid for itself four times over and plus some. The only reason I’ve taken a star off is because the grinder throws the grounds EVERYWHERE. It makes such a mess every time and I haven’t been unsuccessful in figuring out how to make it stop. I’ve tried to clean it, change the grind settings, etc. I watch the grounds come out and they just seem to bounce like crazy when they fall. Not sure if everyone else has this issue or not. It’s annoying having to clean it up every time, but it’s not the end of the world and most of the grounds still make it into the cup.I still love it and would and do recommend it to friends and family!

I have had this machine for almost 3 years now, I rarely write reviews, but I am pretty impressed with the longevity from the machine and the accessories. I've never had an issue with anything that wasn't my fault. I don't know if it's appropriate to refer to it as a work horse but it is. It just works.. once per day double shot probably 300 out of 365 days a year and probably 50-60 afternoon single shots per every 365 days x 3 solid years!

Okay, so I've had three espresso machines before this one. All of the others were variations on the Cuisinart EM-100, priced at right around 200 dollars. That was the first actual electric pump machine I've owned. I've tried the stovetop percolator style before, and could never get it to taste anything but bitter.
This Calphalon model is a step up, for the most part, except that the Cuisinart made a much smoother cup of espresso. The Calphalon, on the other hand, makes a better TASTING espresso cup, while the foamy texture (not the milk, the espresso) makes it more difficult to do "art" using the microfoam from the steamed milk. The Cuisinart always made a very smooth crema top to the espresso, while the Calphalon's foamy textured espresso is simply not "flat" enough to create much of anything other than a circle, so there's that. That's not a "deal breaker" for me, though, since all of my "art", produced using the Cuisinart (while it still worked) was somewhat "accidental" anyway. I'd end up with something that "looked like" something else, and used toothpicks to finalize an idea. My "artistic" ability came down to the equivalent of looking at clouds, and imagining things.
So, now that I've been using the Calphalon for a few months, I'm fully satisfied with its output, and ease of use. I've developed a routine through my daily experience of making lattes for my wife and I, and it's good enough. The flavor is better than with the Cuisinart, and I'm thinking it's because the Calphalon has some kind of temperature "governor" that keeps the espresso temperature just right.
The tamper on this one is plastic, and independent of the machine, which is a good thing, though I may decide to purchase a metal tamper, since I'm used to the weight of the one I used with the Cuisinart. The portafilter and holder are a different size than those on the Cuisinart, bigger by a few mm, so I'll have to look around for the right size metal tamper.
Other than that, there's really nothing more to mention. It's a good machine, unless you want to do the "art". I'll have to investigate, to see if there's anything I'm doing that's making the espresso foam up the way it does on the surface.

My wife and I are very adamant about the quality of coffee we drink. I had just a standard coffee pot and a Keurig before and she always wanted me to go to Starbucks and get her something and wouldn’t drink coffee at home. Now after purchasing this machine, she doesn’t even want Starbucks coffee anymore and we aren’t using that special of coffee grounds.

I am impressed by the quality of the machine, the ease of use, and the fact the instructions break it down super easy for you. Simply with pictures. Excellent devise would highly recommend to anyone.

Purchased as Amazon refurbished and it didn't come with the shot glasses that catch the espresso.
Not a deal breaker!
Wife retired her cheaper Black And Decker for this nicer unit. A few notes from her frustrations:
1-pack that coffee hard! Loose grinds end up soupy and messy
2-initially be patient with the machine! It pauses the noises to let the water drip through and then kicks back on a few times before its ready to steam your milk
3-very happy with the steam wand and power **make sure you pick the RIGHT SETTING to steam and aren't shooting hot water into your milk...

Wife would never go back to the B&D units.

This machine worked great until it didn't. Bought in November 2023. I maintained it diligently. In April 2024, I started having problems with water pressure. Now it won't make a latte at all. I called Calphalon. Their return policy is horrible. On hold for 20 minutes twice and gave up. I submitted the claim online. 5 days later had not heard anything. I called again and waited on hold 15 minutes. They had no record of my claim. So we started a new one. Now, they will investigate. IF it is covered, I have to pay shipping to return it. They will take 30 days to inspect it to see if I can get a refund or a replacement which would be a machine without a built in grinder. It could take 60 more days to get my money back, less shipping and tax. They no longer make this machine.

Love it! Took about 2 weeks to learn how to steam the milk. I used water and soap to practice getting good foam as suggested somewhere on you tube. Different beans result in different weight/amount of ground coffee so a small scale is helpful for getting consistent coffee. Grinding just before brewing seems to make a huge difference in taste. Getting milk extremely cold (but not frozen at all) in a small metal pitcher makes it easier to perfect the micro foam which is my personal preference. Be patient and have fun with it!

Great machine. It's really nice having a grinder plus the ability to switch out the beans easily. Actually very impressed with grinder and settings. Doses very easily. Started espresso at 20 as reccomended only adjusted 2. I read reviews that espresso sprays out of grinder that's NOT true.
Makes excellent espresso, whether single hole basket or multiple hole basket.
Excellent milk and foam too.
Yes, aluminum portafilter a little cheap but works effectively.
Lights and buttons plus overall look of machine very nice.
Yes, Made in China... But really well thought out machine.

I have had this machine for a year now, and I am still quite happy with it.
Everything works well. The frother does a good job with soya milk, which is what I use daily.
I have had a lot of espresso makers in the past twenty years, and this is one of the best so far.

This product doesn't have a bean blender, a milk tank or an auto temp turn-off for the steam wand or any fancy gadgets like that.
It has a water tank and a steam wand that you have to get a thermometer to put in your milk in order to ensure you have the right temp.
You can do one or two shots of espresso that you have to grind in a separate machine.

Is this a bad thing?
Depends on what you want and your experience. I am a trained barista. I want to make drinks for my nieces I would rather be able to turn off my steam wand at 120 degrees than the machine force the milk to a predetermined temp. Or my mum wants an extra hot London fog? I would rather be able to steam it to 150 for her.
Also with fewer gadgets, it's less likely that some gauge or fuse breaks for no reason. It's just simple mechanics in this machine.

One troubleshooting thing. If your espresso won't pull fast enough, try and look through your espresso basket.

If you can see light through the holes your beans have likely been ground too fine, and the water can't filter fast enough. If you can't see light, try cleaning the basket with a toothbrush, toothpick, or worse case scenario take fire to the holes in your espresso basket, just lightly untill you hear a light popping sound. This is the sound of whatever is in there - old espresso or the plastic from manufacturing - cooking to the point of cracking, the holes in the basket can sometimes be plugged to the point that espresso wont pass through. At least this happened to me.

Also invest in a tamper, something that will give you enough pressure to allow for properly pressed espresso.

I've had this for two years now and I love it! Once you get into the rhythm of how this machine works, it's absolutely wonderful. I use it for straight up black coffee. The price point is great as well.

Easy to operate and clean. The grinder also does a good job too.
