Wonderful Sound for Your Living Room

I needed a Soundbar to replace a full 5.1 speaker system. Our television is located in an open layout living room that makes 5.1 speakers impractical. I wanted the replacement soundbar to have good sound quality and interface with our existing system. The sounds of the Q Acoustics Media 4 Soundbar with Built In Subwoofer is fantastic. It is able to direct sound around the room very well. The setup was a cinch and although I already have stand alone Bluetooth speakers for my iPhones/iPods, I no longer need, because the Bluetooth connection on the Q Acoustics works so well. I achieved my goals of maintaining sound quality while downsizing my component number. T

The only issue was my own making. I have an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver. It is a bit older, and alas does not have a digital optical audio out. That would be the preferred plug to go into the Q Acoustics. My receiver also does not even have an RCA connection out that can carry the tv audio signal (It was designed with HDMI connections in mind). Instead, I have to use the 1/4" headphone out from my receiver to go into the 3.5 mm jack into the Q Acoustics. Despite being a little kludgy, this solution works well.

I bought this soundbar because it was the most expensive available that had a subwoofer output. I have an 8 inch sub I have to use. The Q sounds great! Great mids and lows. Even when I shut off my subwoofer the Q puts out healthy bass by itself. I have it connected to my projector using a stereo mini pin and have it mounted to the wall. It was very easy to program my fire stick remote to control it. The only minus is that it powers down if you mute or pause the TV for more than 10 minutes but that's not a big deal. The bluetooth connection to my phone works seamlessly. For the money, this speaker is really great!! I liked it so much I recently got another and now have them both plugged in. Sounds amazing! Now o just need to work on hiding the wires.

I bought this soundbar because I read a review that said it had the best sound for under 500 dollars, and they were right! The interval woofer is very good, but still leaves and option to attach a separate sub woofer if you like even more booming bass, but for me it’s fine as is. It was very easy to set up. Playing songs from my iPhone was also simple and sounds amazing. The only minor issue was that while the cable tv connected easily through the optical connection, when steaming netfilx or vudu there was no sound. Very soon, though, I realized I needed to connect through Bluetooth and it is perfect. You will have great sound that could that could be mistaken for a 1,000 dollar system for $289. I recommend it.

Great sound quality with a few technical flaws

When I began my search for a soundbar for my tv, it started as many others by looking at Crutchfield and other audio sites. After much research it led me to Q Acoustics and the M4 for its very impressive sound quality and simplicity. I was sold. While the unit sounds great and would get a 5 star for that alone, there are a number of small hiccups that to me drops the overall value.

Pluses:
- The sound quality is great and is as expected based on the reviews.
- The integrated subwoofer is just what I liked. Its got just enough punch for movies but doesn't affect voices too much. Too often I find external subwoofers annoyingly bassy.
- The size is great. I have it on a shelf below the TV which is hanging on a wall and it fills the space perfectly. I would probably look at a thinner unit though if it had to be hung on a wall as it would stick out somewhat far due to the subwoofer enclosure.
- The bluetooth feature to play it remotely is very cool, useful and easy to use.
- Setup was easy (except for the hour I spent trying to figure out why digital audio wasn't working)

Minuses
- The digital optical connection requires a specific setting (that isn't listed in product specs) that doesn't exist on my tv so I was forced to use analog audio cables. To me this was a big compromise.
- Unfortunately the analog audio disables the auto on feature of the unit so I have to manually turn it on every time which is annoying.
- There are no controls for the sound, zero so if you want bass or treble adjustments you are out of luck.
- The bluetooth while easy to use and useful at the same time can be annoying. For example when checking a voicemail with bluetooth on it turns the tv off and switches to bluetooth by priority. So I have to turn bluetooth off on my phone.
- There needs to be more steps between volumes. There are no visual representations any more of what the audio is set to (like a tv that displays bars or numbers). We have it at one volume and its too soft and the next volume increase is too loud. It needs a couple in between steps and this should have been easy to do.
- I would have liked equalization for the price. Some more basic units can regulate the audio between shows and commercials.

So overall a great sounding unit that I wish had a few more capabilities and addressed some product design hiccups.

Just connected my Q Acoustics Media 4 sound bar, replacing a surround sound setup. I’d heard about the incredible Tectonic BMR drivers and listened to their performance at InfoComm this year. Once I heard sound delivered via their drivers, I became spoiled and everything else sounded inferior. Until this month, the Media 4 was not available in the U.S. I jumped at the chance to have one.

Well, the sound bar didn’t disappoint. The immersive sound reached all corners of our TV room, and with no reverb off the room’s two floor-to-ceiling glass walls. No matter where you sat or at what distance, the sound level was the same and crystal clear. No more ‘what did he say?’ sidebars with my wife. In fact, the sound was of far better quality than that produced by the surround sound system it replaced. I also connected my iPhone via Bluetooth and the sound production was beautiful. I played a couple of Jamiroquai tracks and heard things I didn’t know were even there. Overall setup was incredibly simple and I had the Media 4 up and running in quick order.

At the price, and especially when compared to the complexity and expense of typical surround sound systems, this sound bar is superior valu
