Calathea orbifolia is a large growing variety from Bolivia. &nbsp;The pale silver-green, rounded oval-shaped leaves are lined with both thick and thin light-green striping with the undersides of the leaves being pale green. &nbsp;In time, their leaves can reach about 15-35” wide and the plant itself can reach several feet tall&nbsp;in its native environment but typically grows slower and smaller indoors. &nbsp; Calatheas are moderate to fast growing members of the Marantaceae family that are native to the tropical Americas. &nbsp;They come in many different varieties and are highly prized for their exotic, unique patterned foliage - often considered some of the most beautiful in the world! &nbsp;They should be planted in a well-drained soil mix but kept moist (not saturated) at all times. &nbsp;They require moderately low lighting to full shade and there should never be standing water on the leaves. &nbsp;Bright lighting will damage the leaves and fade the color. &nbsp;These plants need stable temperatures, preferably above 60 degrees, as they are highly sensitive to cold drafts and other temperature fluctuations. &nbsp; &nbsp; USDA Hardiness Zone 10 &nbsp; Container Gardens/Terrariums/Houseplant: Calatheas will do well in a container garden, terrarium or as a houseplant as it prefers low light and is easy to care for. Since they prefer humid conditions, they may suffer from leaf curl if humidity levels become too low. &nbsp;To remedy this, you can place the plant and pot on a tray of pebbles with water to increase the ambient humidity around the plant.&nbsp; &nbsp; Josh's Frogs offers a wide variety of glass terrariums, container garden soils, drainage layers and other supplies for all of your indoor gardening needs. &nbsp; Vivariums/Animal Terrariums: Calatheas can be a great choice for vivarium use. &nbsp;Their leaves can make a great perch and provide shelter for your vivarium inhabitants to create potential egg laying spots for a variety of poison dart frogs. Plant came in great condition with minimal browning on the tips (it is a calathea so that is expected). Plant looks great and I look forward to seeing it grow.

After ordering several of the Calathea 'Vittata', I am continually impressed with its quality. These plants always arrive healthy, at about the same size as the plant pictured. Expect a small root system that doesn't reach the entire pot.

Great little calathea

I ordered one of these in June 2020. Now, at the end of December 2020, it has doubled or tripled in size. Excellent growth! Some calatheas are super-sensitive, but this one seems to be a trooper! Leaves are a hint waxy so it is not as sensitive to humidity fluctuations as many other varieties. Mine grows in an east-facing window and seems rather happy there. It did totally fine all summer and fall without an additional humidity. This area stays around 50-70% humidity because of several open top aquariums. Once the winter heating kicked on, though, I started to see a hint of browning on one leaf (which is pretty amazing compared to most other calatheas). I've adjusted its location and turned on the humidifier for my tropicals. This little plant is right back to living its best life!

Healthy happy plant!

The white stripes in this plant's leaves aren't given enough justice from the photos, I was absolutely shocked and delighted when I received it, it's possibly the prettiest plant I have received from here (and that's saying something)

stunning plant

The Plant was shipped by UPS which arrived quickly. It was very well wrapped except the soil was very dry and about a third of it fell out of the pot as I was unpacking it. I love it, it is a very unusual looking plant and I hope it does well.

Super cute plant

This was a 2.5 inch plant that would have only cost me $10 if I had ordered it directly from Josh's Frogs. Instead, Walmart charged me $20. It was unclear from the website what the size of the plant was, so I had hoped that the price meant would mean it was at least a 4 inch plant. Furthermore, it was not a healthy plant. It has lost two leaves since I received it (and it was only a 2.5 inch plant). I wouldn't have been so negative if this only cost me $10.

Should be $10, not $20!

The plant arrived in good time. For 19.00 I expected a more established plant in a 4" pot.  This looked healthy but only 3 leaves— it looked like a cutting stuck in some dirt.  The soil was soaked with water and it is one week later and it still is more moist than is healthy for the plant.  It was wrapped in bubble wrap so tightly the round pot was oval.   I am just not confident it will survive given the conditions.

Pretty plant very small for the money.

Twenty dollars down the drain. Plant died in 2 days.
