Excellent 1st wireless headphones from Beyerdynamic with some glitches

Excellent 1st wireless headphones from Beyerdynamic with some glitches
Beyerdynamic AVENTHO 300 headphones. I have some thoughts…. What I like: 1. Sound quality is amazing, after updating the firmware and the Dolby Atmos & dynamic head tracking became available. 2. Comfortable for extended periods. Not heavy. Clamping force is just right (at least for me) ear cups are a nice size and fit comfortably around my ears. Headband cushioning is good. No complaints about fit. 3. Build quality is solid. Has a nice appearance, a bit different from other headphones available. I got the Nordic Grey because I prefer how the silver aluminum yokes look on this color better than the black. 4. Came with a nice hard case and a cloth pouch as well giving 2 options for carrying and protecting your investment. Also folds so the case isn’t so big as many others, but it’s not as small as the Sony WH-1000XM4 or the Bose QC Ultras) 5. Battery life is impressive. 50 hours is accurate. Oddly, the box says the battery last for 35 hours with ANC on, they must have improved it before release but had already printed the boxes. After the update the app shows battery level in both percentage as well as hours remaining which is very convenient 6. USB-C cable with an adapter for USB-A, giving you options for charging as well as wired listening (although I almost always use wireless as I dislike being tethered by wires for the most part). 7. ANC is strong-ish. Apparently uses 2 Sony chips for this, probably not the most recent ones as in Sony’s WH-1000XM5’s. Some noise still gets through when music is quieter or between tracks but this is true of Sony’s as well (I own both the XM4 and XM5 headphones as well as many others, mostly expensive high-end headphones like the Focal Bathys, Bowers & Wilkins Px8’s, Air Pods Max, Bang & Olufsen H95’s and others). 8. The EQ works well, although it does dampen the volume a bit. The sound without it is solid, dynamic but sometimes a little harsh at high volume. Lots of bass though. I’ve been going back and forth on it being off and on. Still deciding which I prefer but I think the eq softens the sound in a very pleasant way, at least for how I like it. 9. The app, for the most part works well. I have had a few times when connecting to my iPhone didn’t go smoothly, but usually it does and when you open the app you are already connected. No waiting, not searching for device, that kind of thing. I really appreciate that. I also like the design of the app, the reddish orange color scheme, and the player controls at the bottom with a liquid equalizer type graphic that moves with the music (kind of like waves on the ocean). What I have not liked: 1. it took 8 tries to update the firmware. On the night I first got them, I gave up after 7 attempts. It would be almost done and would say “reconnection timed out” and “update failed”. Frustrating to say the least. Took about 20 minutes for each failed attempt. The next morning I decide to try again and left it going while I took a shower. Like a watched pot that never boils, when I left it alone and came back some time later it was finally updated. That meant Dolby Atmos was now available, which is one main reason I wanted to try the AVENTHO 300’s. 2. Turning on and off power is very finicky and a bit annoying. Turning on you must push the button for 2 seconds. Any longer and it will go into pairing mode. Turning off must be exactly 5 seconds until you see the red light. Any longer and it will turn back on and enter pairing mode again and when you don’t have anything to pair it to it gets stuck in the pairing loop for some time. I’m starting to get the hang of it. (I love the power button on the Zildjian ALCHEM-E Perfect tune headphones. A simple press on, off. Easy. Simple. Satisfying.) 3. The LED light is always on, blinking in blue as you listen. There is a setting in the app to have it bright, medium or dark, and that helps, I wish there was an off option. Many headphones only light up as you turn the headphones on or pair but go off when listening. This is preferable to me. At least with the dark setting it is not so bad (the light is very distracting if listening in bed at night and trying to relax). 4. Many times the ANC seems to turn off on its own. It may be that when I remove the headphones I am touching the touch pad and deactivated it. I think the quick attention style mode they implemented is weak as it only turns on transparency but doesn’t mute or lower the volume so is kind of useless. This may be why the ANC is deactivating on its own seemingly I’m not sure. 5. The wear detection does not always work, but I have found that true of most headphones with this feature (Bowers and Wilkins has the best wear sensors , they work 99% of the time). I like that when you power on and put them on it will automatically resume playing whatever you were listening to last. For me this is convenient. 6. Voice prompts are annoying and so I’m happy they can be turned off in the app. Overall I would recommend these headphones with the hope that future updates will fix some of the bugs. Update: too many glitches. Every time I remove the headphones the ANC turns off. Every other time I turn the headphones on it doesn’t connect, says to “forget device” and to re-pair the device. So annoying. I can’t overlook these problems for this price. I see a return in the future. Update. My original reading was harsh. These headphones sound excellent, offer decent noise cancellation and are comfortable. I have been told that the bugs would be worked out in an update. I can’t stop listening to these so that is a goods sign. Update again: still frustrating bugs near constant annoyance. Almost every time I turn them on they go into pairing mode and since they were already paired it says to “forget device” and pair again. Then when I do, I have to go back in the app to change the settings all over again! Many times a day! ANC turns off, annoying voice prompts turn back on, LED returns to bright, EQ goes back to flat setting, Dolby Atmos and Headtracking are off, all again and again and again and I’m about to lose it! If I leave the wear sensor on, and remove the headphones while playing, they will pause and also turn off the ANC. So very convenient. NOT. So ready to return these. Supposedly a firmware update is being worked on but I’m not sure I can wait for it any longer. Sound is amazing, battery life also incredible, but otherwise not ready for prime time. 3 stars is just for the good parts. The bad rates less than one. Frustrating.

Best of the best. Sounds good, comfortable, easily connecting with Bluetooth even with Window 11. More expensive than this one doesn’t mean it is better. Maybe they are just different.
Why pay more for overpriced brand names.

I was researching buying these for a few months and finally decided to…and could not be happier.

Coming from AirPods Max, I was immediately blown away at the sound quality and connectivity of these.

Here is what I am loving about these:

      Connectivity
Seamless to pair & connect to your phone, multi-point connect, etc. All very easy. There is a firmware upgrade you should install out of box in the Beyerdynamic mobile app. Bluetooth 5.4 has crazy range so I can move around freely without worrying about it disconnecting. Have not had a single issue with connectivity, noises, crackling, etc.

      Sound
I’m not an audiophile by any means, but there is a discernible difference between the sound of these and my AirPods Max. Deep, deep base you can almost feel vibrate your head. Every instrument is crisp. Sound is deafening if you desire. It has totally transformed some albums for me. Not a single complaint.

      Comfort/Build Quality
Again, blown away by this, as I didn’t think anything could be as comfortable as my APM (which are heavy, but I found comfortable). With the premium build these have, I was nervous about them being uncomfortable, but that is not the case. Wore them for an entire workday and did not have to adjust or feel any discomfort once. You can tell these are very well made.

      Battery Life
Have used them for a few days and have not had to charge them once. Another plus.

Overall: Don’t want to sound like a homer, but these are a 10/10. I am very happy with this purchase and can’t wait to use them for years to come.

These headphones sound really good and fit comfortably. They have a lot of features, more than I expected. The sound quality is good, but not ideal for my primary use case since the bottom isn't as flat as I need for mixing music. For regular listening to music, they're pretty good. The bluetooth signal was received well, and didn't have dropouts or issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super Kopfhörer. Kaufe immer wieder gerne Beyerdynamic Produkte
Reviewed in Germany on April 20, 2025

5.0 out of 5 stars Un casque excellent .. avec un peu d’EQ
Reviewed in France on May 3, 2025
      Color: BlackVerified Purchase

I've been a fan of Beyerdynamic headphones for years, I've used the 770s, 880s and 990s and the 990s are my go-tos, while both my kids use the 770s and 990s. I bought these for one of them to replace some Bose 700s, expecting these to sound as good as the 770s but with Bluetooth and NC etc. In fact, they sound DREADFUL. Nothing at all like the 770s or 990s. Quite a lot worse than the Bose 700s. It was really surprising and really disappointing tbh, especially finding this out on Christmas Day! Beyerdynamic: sort it out!!
