Moreover, the boots are particularly suitable for senior dogs, with one customer noting they're great for dogs with degenerative myelopathy. - Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2025Color: Red SumacSize: 3.25 in (2 Boots)Verified PurchaseWe have had and worn these for several days and are super happy with them thus far. Our 10-year-old lab has arthritic front feet, we have a very long and rocky driveway that gets walked a couple of times a day, and he had started exhibiting lameness after his second walk of the day and would stay on the porch refusing to walk. We are already on Librela monthly for his shoulders so wanted to offer him a way to manage the discomfort/pain. Enter shoes to help mitigate tenderness. To begin with, this fella’s feet are HUGE (almost 3.5” across without any weight on them) so finding shoes to fit is a challenge. We started with another brand that has a sole with moderate durability and neoprene uppers. They are okay enough but barely lasted 10 days with the underbrush on our property. Looking for more durability, we took the chance on the largest of these RuffWear shoes after seeing photo reviews of other pups that seemed to have paws as large as he. He has worn shoes before in his life so acclimated quickly to these. They are a shorter design than most and so are incredibly easy to slip on. The sole is very sturdy and thus a bit stiff to begin with; I do recommend ensuring your pup’s nails are trimmed to reduce any discomfort from pressure when wearing them. We don’t have dew claws so I cannot speak on that being an issue or not. The Velcro fastener is secure and the shoes seem to stay in place when the shoe is on and secured. We don’t wear them for extended periods; maximum of about 30 minutes per outing so we haven’t noticed any damage to his paws but I’d imagine we should break them in before attempting a longer walk or hike. Shoes in general have helped with his tenderness/lameness but our initial pair was just good enough. These offer extra protection between his feet and the rocky ground, are super easy to slip on, and have withstood the underbrush on the property. Are they pricey? Yes. Do I think they are worth it at this time? Also, yes.

Next, I took him to the Grand Canyon and Williams in Arizona (it was 100 F the two days we went) to explore and I noticed his feet were moist from the sweat so I would take it off and carry him but then put them back on once they've dried and he was able to keep walking on them. I would check to see if his paws would get blisters while having it on from walking to the view points but there was no blistering. His paws did not get burned or hurt thanks to these dog booties. I got a lot of compliments on him wearing them he looks so cute and happy in them. Another thing was they did keep slipping off while at the grand canyon but it was because I did not tighten them enough because I thought it would hurt him. I did end up tightening up to wear it shows the shoe size but it didn't hurt him as he was still willing to walk in them and didn't bark or try to take them off. I think it helped that I also used the Mushers secret on his paws before I put the shoes on him just incase the heat from the pavement would go through the shoes but I didn't see any problems. Overall, I do recommend getting these for hot weather. My dog survived walking through the heat without blisters or getting his paws burned. Must get!
5.0 out of 5 starsI bought these shoes for the sole purpose of not getting my dogs paws burned while walking in our trip. The material doesn't feel flimsy or cheap they never ripped or got a hole from walking in our trip. The shoes felt pretty sturdy and breathable. When we put them on it fit his paws perfectly. The problem was that his legs are too skinny from where you tighten it so they slipped off easily unless we tightened it as much as we could without hurting him. The picture I put was his first day wearing them he wasn't too happy. He didn't know how to stand up with them, tried taking them off and walked like a newborn baby deer. He walked funny at first but on the 2nd day he got used to it as we walked all around Las Vegas (it was 109F) and Laughlin by the Colorado River (it was 115 F when we went). I provided a video of him walking in the shoes. I was skeptical about the ground still being able to burn his paws but when I would check to feel his paws they were not hot at all!!! We also let him swim with the shoes on in the river, so it wouldn't hurt when he would walk on top of the rocks where the shallow area was and he had no problems with it on.good for Laughlin/Vegas/Arizona weather

I followed the sizing instructions and even asked my dog's groomer to help me measure her paws. Her paw measures 2.5" in width but that size is too long towards the front of the toes, which caused her to continuously trip on them when I tried them on. I have purchased several products from Ruffwear (harnesses, leashes, collars and boots for my orther dogs). I love the quality and style but unfortunately did not work for my cocker spaniel.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2024Color: Obsidian BlackSize: 1.75 in (2 Boots)Verified PurchaseMy dog was a stray for a year and a half and this was her first pair of shoes. Obviously it took some getting used to but after a few minutes she’s walking fine in them. The soles thick enough to keep the thorns and the heat from the concrete out but thin enough she can move naturally in them. They’re really lightweight. They’re true to measurements. Easy to put on and they stay on when we go hiking.
The only two things I don’t like is they take a couple days to break in and they irritated the tops of her paws but once they broke in they’re fine. The upper mesh is a little too thick for my liking my dogs paws get really sweaty in them but I live In Phoenix so I’m talking extremes of heat, I’m sure they’re good anywhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for old dogs!
Color: Obsidian BlackSize: 1.50 in (2 Boots)Verified PurchaseI was looking for something to help my elderly Wire Haired Fox Terrier. He has degenerative myelopathy and struggles on most surfaces to grip and it has been heartbreaking watching him fall and lose his balance so often. He also drags his rear paws and has worn the nails to the quick where they bleed. Rufus only weighs 8.5kgs and his paws are small. I measured according to the directions and went ahead and ordered the smallest size, 1.5in. Boots arrived and are exactly as pictured. I put them on Rufus's rear paws and cinched the velcro tight and he was fine from the get go. Rufus has grip and his hind legs are held firm on the ground, even inside on the polished wood floor. Really pleased so far and Rufus seems not to be bothered with them at all. Great purchase, well worth the money paid to see my little dog upright and not struggling to walk!
