Update 9/24:The bats hanging off didn’t make it too much longer after the original review. All 3 strings snapped close to where they were attached. But, I haven’t seen a cat tree yet where this didn’t happen sadly.The tree itself is still in really good condition. I started fostering kittens shortly after the review so I’ve had 15 kittens in addition to the original 2 climbing all over this the last 6 months. There’s some mild fraying on the sisal posts, but it hasn’t unraveled. The wood base doesn’t even have a scratch on it, shockingly, nor has it warped from being soaked in pee. Cause of course the dog has peed on it as predicted. There’s been a few snags in the coffin beds, which I just trimmed with scissors. They aren’t washable so I spot clean with enzyme spray when needed and vacuum them. The top black bed, which is washable, has held up in the washing machine.My 2 cats have outgrown the gothic cat tree, so I’m now hunting for a taller tree that meets my requirements (sigh), but I definitely don’t regret this purchase & will keep the tree for foster kittens.Original review 3/24:I’d read some pretty bad reviews about Happy & Polly on various websites so I was hesitant to buy this. I finally decided to give it a shot after an exhaustive search for a black cat tree with a non carpeted/sisal base turned up nothing. The room in my house that I wanted this for is a room both my kittens and small dogs use. One of my dogs is a leg hiker so I desperately needed a cat tree with an easily cleanable base, so the standard carpet/sisal base on cat trees was out.I’m glad I decided to take the risk! Not sure why so many reviews off Amazon found Happy & Polly sketchy, but if this gothic tree is anything to go by they’re definitely not.The tree itself is good quality. Everything is sturdy, none of the fabric was frayed. As mentioned by another reviewer the detachable bed on the top fits securely, the kittens haven’t budged it at all during their romping. Colors are true, blackest black & bright red. It comes with extra hanging toys but my cats have yet to destroy or yank off the preattached toys. Which I can’t say about the other cat tree I purchased.My only complaint was assembly was a bit annoying. It has you attach all the posts and coffins together first before attaching to the wooden base. The upper part was easy to put together but attaching it all to the base was frustrating. You can’t turn it upside down and it stay steady while you screw the base on. And you can’t tighten the upper coffin to lower coffin post until you screw it all to the base, so the posts swivel making it difficult to match up to the screw holes in the base.But you only have to put it together once, thank goodness. My kittens love it, my dog can pee on it without it causing a permanent smell, and I like the aesthetic of it. Would definitely buy from Happy & Polly again, via Amazon anyways, as they have some really cute stuff.
