Editorial Reviews

White Vinyl. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds return with new album, Wild God. Across the ten tracks of the album, the band dance between convention and experimentation, taking left-turns and detours that heighten the rich imagery and emotion in Cave's soul-stirring narratives. It is the sound of a group emboldened by reconnection and taking flight. There are moments that touch fondly upon the Bad Seeds' past but they are fleeting, and serve only to imbue the relentless and restless forward motion of the band. Produced by Cave and Warren Ellis, and mixed by David Fridmann, Cave began writing the album in 2023. With sessions at Miraval in Provence and Soundtree in London, the Bad Seeds added their unique alchemy, with additional performances from Colin Greenwood (bass) and Luis Almau (nylon string guitar, acoustic guitar). "Wild God... there's no fucking around with this record. When it hits, it hits. It lifts you. It moves you. I love that about it," says Nick Cave.

I saw an interview with Nick Cave, had never heard of him before, but immediately purchased Wild God and his book, Faith, Hope, and Carnage. Nick’s vulnerability and awe of the divine is pure. Seeking is finding and Nick does not hesitate to descend, and ascend into expressing the sacred spaces he has encountered. Yet, he honestly and openly shares his soul of uncertainty as a part of his exploration of what is based on faith of what is not yet fully revealed. Long Dark Night is beautiful and could only come from a place of an encounter with healing and love from those who have touched him with love and healing- including the touch of God. I feel privileged every time I listen to this CD. I have been invited into a sacred space - a sanctuary that is to be experienced in my own way, but alongside with Nick who has brilliantly found the lyrics to express what few lyricists have been able to put into words. I encourage long term fans and new ones, like myself, to move beyond liking or not liking this music and hear the depth of what Nick is sharing with us all. You might be surprised to find that something deeper will ignite within you that you did not know was there. Well done Nick, well done!
Oh, and I have gone back and listened to much of his earlier music. Also amazing. It has been a wild ride for Nick in his life, with a Wild God right beside him - even when he was unaware of the long white hair flowing down.
    Highly Recommend !

Nick Cave has a long history of writing screenplays and composing movie soundtracks, and that love of the cinema is very much in evidence on his and The Bad Seeds’s latest album, Wild Gods. From the opening track, Song of the Lake, the listener gets the sense that a movie soundtrack is playing, working through the metaphysical journey of the story’s protagonist as he contemplates the workings of the divine, the place of love, and the consequences of the choices we humans make as we try to fulfill our hopes and dreams.

As one might suspect from such heady subjects, the music is big and dramatic, and Cave’s singing is full of longing, angst, and, at times, a hint of desperation. Two songs that amply demonstrate the drama churning throughout the album are “Conversion” and “Cinnamon Horses.” Both songs start slow, even meditatively, and build to big dramatic endings, and deal with, on the one hand (Conversion) the possibility of spiritual conversion through an encounter with the divine, and on the other (Cinnamon Horses) with trying to maintain hope in the goodness of life when faced with the trials and suffering life throws in everyone’s path.

If such existential musings are your cup of tea, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds will take you on a very entertaining musical journey with Wild God.

    Highly recommended.

One of Nick's most experimental releases. Big sound and intense lyrics. If you like him, you'll enjoy Wild God.

This is the first album by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and it's one of the most uniquely relaxing musical experiences I've ever had. I have heard a few songs from Cave like "Red Right Hand" so this seemed like a left turn from what I was expecting. The vinyl sounds incredible and all the songs are amazing. My only issue is with the packageing. The album outer sleeve seems to be too tight for the album in it's inner sleeve, I'm afraid if I take it out too often I'll damage the record.

A little expensive, but fast delivery w/ good packing and overview about tracking of the post.
Question could be to collect all next items from one purchase order before sending it out.. and pay for it together.

The music is great. It's a solid addition to his catalog BUT the sound on the CD sucks. It's terribly compressed. A real shame. This music deserves better sound engineering.

If Skeleton Tree was about grief and Ghosteen was about healing , then Wild God is about learning to let go and moving on . Not too dissimilar from its predecessors, White God is the closing of a chapter . This album is still ambient and dark , albeit a little more playful than recent output . Cinnamon Horses and Final Rescue Attempt are exquisite. The album is injected with some contemplative moments and then some rapturous ones . Wild God and Frogs have a loose and spontaneous feel to them . Nick doesn't really stray too far from his usual performance and his lyrics are still metaphors for grief and hope . I would imagine that the next studio album will see The Bad Seeds back in full force with different themes and we can only hope that Nick will go all out and make another Grinderman album that rocks and rolls . If you look at Wild God as the book end to Skeleton Tree , it works really well !
