Designed for competition BBQ teams, commercial smokehouses, professional chefs, and those who want to cook like them, Signals with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology boasts 4 channels of continuous temperature monitoring with all the powerful features and convenience you've come to expect from ThermoWorks.

Finally, a 4-channel alarm thermometer that works with your smart device AND as a stand-alone unit with physical buttons (so you don't have to soil your smartphone). Signals comes with both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technology onboard so you get a continuous signal and real-time alerts whether you're in a field or across town. Setup is quick and easy without ever needing to read the instruction manual. Signals stands apart from the competition, from its huge, backlit dashboard display and sturdy, self-standing weather-resistant case to its programmable channel names and new high temperature silicone color bands so you know at a glance which channel goes with which probe. Signals uses commercial-grade Pro-Series temperature probes exclusive to ThermoWorks to deliver better accuracy, faster response, wider temperature ranges and longer useful life. Cook more at once and worry less about the results with Signals.

Signals is designed to track temperatures over an extended period of time with moderate-heat cooking methods such as smoking, oven-roasting, deep-frying, homebrewing, and Sous Vide and to be used while grilling. Signals is not meant to be used in place of a digital instant-read thermometer, such as a Thermapen ONE or a ThermoPop, or used with broiling.

A must have
The thing will do way more than I need it to. I have used it for one cook so far and it performed amazing. I love the fact that you get to see marginal increases/decreases that way I can see how the temp will tend to track after making adjustments. I have a C.O.S. Cheap Offset Smoker, the Chargriller Grand Champ. It's great for intro level smoker but fire management is a constant and the Signals really helped compared to the $60 homedepot one i was using before.

Do not buy thermoworks
It was a great product while it worked. I thought I was paying top dollar for a BBQ thermometer system that would last me at least 2 or 3 years. I bought mine exactly 7 months ago. The battery is barely holding a charge anymore. 3 of my probes read negative temp when it's 80 degrees outside. One of these probes is my ambient temp probe that has never been moved since I installed it, I only wipe the tip of it when I clean the grill.

Probes don't last.
First probe died within a week, 2nd probe died in a few months. I've been very careful with them, just don't seem high enough quality. Would not recommend at this point, I've had other thermometers where the probes last years.

The product is great with one HUGE problem.
The unit works well and stays connected to wifi throughout the cook, but the issue with the USB-C port not actually being USB-C overshadows everything Thermoworks accomplished. The unit has a USB-C charge port on the side, but beware it is NOT wired or powered to USB-C standards. It seems the designers forgot the Universal part of USB. They use a Proprietary USB-C (oximoron) with unnegotiated 12V. This means if you lose their special little USB brick your Signal is useless. IT also means you now have a USB A power brick or USB-C cable attacked to that power brick that will fry any device you plug into it. In my case a guest came over looking for a charger, saw the free cable, and boom no more phone. It is truly ridiculous that a company like Thermoworks would make such a decision.

Battery issues mar otherwise good experience
Battery lasted less than a year. Wont charge nor will it hold one. Not replacable ( inexcusable in a product of this type). Works great when it actually gets power.

Why did you choose this?

Wireless

Accuracy and durability/build quality. The built in system my smoker came with gives nonsensical values.

Looking for the highest quality product lead me to this.

Already have the ThermoWorks billows.

Is the rechargeable battery in the new Signal capable of being changed to a standard battery?

No, you cannot change the rechargeable battery to a standard battery. Because of the amount of power required for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, we had to choose a non-standard battery. Signals' housing is also completely sealed to make it waterproof to IP66, so the battery compartment isn't accessible. Mobile phones, tablets, and other high-functioning electronics are built the same way.

Will this connect to a 5 ghz wifi router or does it require 2.4 ghz ?

The ThermoWorks app requires a 2.4GHz connection. We specifically designed Signals to work with a 2.4 GHz network because it has a longer range than a 5 GHz network does. Also, a 2.4 GHz frequency network is not as negatively affected by the number of walls, floors, and other objects between the router and the device as a 5 GHz network would be. This makes a 2.4 GHz network the best option whenever a device cannot be placed close to a Wi-Fi router.

Do you have a public API? Would love to be able to tie in my cooks with my home automation.

We do not have a public API available for Signals at this time.

Whats the difference between this and the ThermaQ WiFi? What are the advantages of one over the other?

Here are the main differences between Signals and ThermaQ WiFi:- Signals uses Pro-Series® Probes with thermistor type sensors.

- ThermaQ WiFi is the most accurate and rugged BBQ thermometer available. It uses Type K thermocouple probes which are known for high accuracy and durability. Signals comes with 4 probes and ThermaQ WiFi uses 2 probes (probes sold separately).

- There are thousands of Type K probe options available for use with a ThermaQ WiFi thermometer. There are a limited number of Pro-Series probe options available to Signals users.

- Both Signals and ThermaQ WiFi feature high and low alarms and continuous Min/Max displays for each channel. Signals has four channels and ThermaQ has two channels-

Signals includes the ability to track your cook on your phone or tablet using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. You can also use Signals without Bluetooth and Wi-Fi by using the hardware’s buttons and alarms. ThermaQ WiFi includes Wi-Fi technology, but doesn't include Bluetooth technology.

- Signals includes control circuitry to run Billows; ThermaQ WiFi does not.

Will this unit fit in the Large Zippered Storage Case shown as an accessory?

Yes, it will. Signals and all four of its probe fit in the Large Zippered Storage case nicely.

Looks awesome and is exactly what I have been waiting for. One question. Is there internal storage on the signal itself? Or is it only storing on the phone? For example at a competition where there typically is not wifi, if I connect with bluetooth, then head out to walk around with my phone (losing BT connection), upon returning will I have the data from the time when the phone was not connected? If not that is a big feature this is missing from its most obvious competitor.

No, there is not storage on Signals itself. Signals uses the Bluetooth phone/tablet connection as a backup for the times when the Wi-Fi connection is lost. As soon as the Wi-Fi connection is re-established, it begins using it again.

If you are at a competition and are concerned about losing data if the Wi-Fi connection is lost and Signals is not within Bluetooth of your phone or tablet, you may want to consider using a dedicated phone or tablet that you keep within Bluetooth range at all times. As long as all of the phones/tablets are logged into the ThermoWorks and connected to the Internet, you can access the data from anywhere.

(Note: The new ThermoWorks App + ThermoWorks Cloud allows you to add read-only users to you account so other team members can see what is happening with the cook using their own logins.)

What time interval does Signals upload temperature data to the cloud ? eg, every minute ? every 5 minutes ? etc.

You have the option of setting the interval update rate to 15, 30, or 60 seconds apart.

Does this have an audible alarm that keeps going off until it is silenced by the user? ie something that will wake you up?

Signals will both alarm on the hardware and in the app on your phone or tablet. Both will continue to alarm until you shut the alarms off. The loudness of the alarms (on both the hardware and your phone or tablet) is determined by the settings you choose. The alarm on the phone will wake you up if you turn the volume up on your phone or tablet, assuming you do not have your phone set to "do not disturb."

What is the temperature range the main unit can operate at? Will heat or cold effect the lcd readouts much?

The operating range is 32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C), meaning that is the range that the plastic body can be directly exposed to. For instance, you don't want to attach the body with its magnets to a smoker where the temperatures will go above 122°F as the high heat can melt the plastic. It can be used in atmospheric temperatures outside of that range, though. (When it is a very cold or very hot day.) You'll want to keep Signals display out of direct sunlight for long stretches, as it can damage the LCD display.

I have a USB-C Power Delivery power bank. The USB-C PD specification allows for variable voltage UpTo 20V (including 12V). Will this work to power Signals (and Billows)? Thanks

We have a similar set up here and have found that while Billows will blow, it doesn't move as much air as it should. In order to move air at full capacity, Signals must be either plugged into AC power or a portable power station with 120V AC outlets.
