About Us

Dr. Martens’ appeal to people who have their own individual style but share a united spirit – authentic characters who stand for something. People who possess a proud sense of self- expression. People who are different.

On a stylistic level, Dr. Martens simple silhouettes allows their wearers to adopt the boots and shoes as part of their own individual and very distinctive style; on a practical level, their famous durability and comfort make them ideal for the unforgiving world of gigs and street fashion; and then finally on an emotional level, they are a badge of attitude and empowerment. However, it wasn’t always this way: Dr. Martens were originally a modest work-wear boot that was even sold as a gardening shoe at one stage.

Product Description Vegan high-shine synthetic material offers a premium and subtle two tone finish. The Embury is based on our Original 2976 chelsea boot, and comes with amplified Docs DNA. The 1460 is the original Dr. Martens boot. The boot's recognizable DNA looks like this: 8 eyes, grooved sides, a heel-loop, yellow stitching, and a comfortable, air-cushioned sole. Black embroidered flowers cascade down the side of the boot, designed especially by DM's in-house creatives. The Rometty is based on our traditional 2976 pattern with a thick, platform sole to take this style to the next level. Accentuated heel and vamp pannels add a contemporary feel to a well-known style.

Product Description

The Rometty is based on our traditional 2976 pattern with a thick, platform sole to take this style to the next level. Accentuated heel and vamp pannels add a contemporary feel to a well-known style.

Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460. To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

I ordered the women's size 10 boot from Amazon since there was such a a steep discount. I sized down from my typical skinny, long footed 10.5. I could get the boot on but my toes were completely crammed into the toe box. The 11's off Amazon were no different in price from the actual store so I ordered from the store. Though the box from Dr.Marten's reads 11, the inside is a 10 much like the Amazon boot. The difference is that I can comfortably wear what was sent from the official website. See photos, but the material of the boots from Amazon are different from that of the actual store. The Amazon shoe has polished and much tougher leather (doesn't really move even when pressing with my fingers). The Amazon shoes did not come with any tissue inserts or cardboard supports. The boots ordered from the Dr. Martens website are a brushed and softer leather. The date of manufacture of Amazon on the inside of the box is 6/3/2022 vs the store at 7/10/2023. Do what you want with this information but wanted to get it out there that the finish and sizing is not the same and that may be a problem for some people. They are a pretty silhouette though! Update: added a final picture because I think was some quality control issue with the pair I got from Amazon. The two shoes are definitely not the same size so I think I might've had some bad luck with my order.

Love, love, LOVE these boots! I've always wanted a pair and am happy with them now that I finally have them. Totally did not realize they were steel-toe boots when I bought them (they were on sale for 30% off!) so that was a nice bonus to discover when I tried them on the first time. They're snug around the ankle, easy to get on and off, stylish and sturdy, AND I get an extra three inches of height too! Two complaints. First is that the fit is a little loose (I'm a size 7 and ordered a size 7), but wearing a pair of thick socks, or two pairs of thin socks, makes them fit perfectly. Not a big deal considering they're my fall/winter boots for work, and I intended on wearing thick socks with them anyway. Second, the elastic on the outside of the right boot is already starting to fray :( I didn't realize that that was "a thing" common to the Chelsea boots after Doc Marten switched manufacturers, so to say I'm bummed is a bit of an understatement. I bought them in September 2022 and it's now the beginning of November 2022, so it only took about 2 months of consistent wear for the fraying to start.

JAN 2025 UPDATE: These boots are still amazing! The fraying on the side has not changed or gotten worse over the years, and I've worn them way more often than just in the fall/winter (they're super cute with ankle socks and sundresses in the summertime FYI). I purchased the official Doc Marten sole inserts, and now they fit PERFECTLY and I can wear them year-round comfortably. Also, there was never a breaking-in period with these boots, they were perfectly comfortable from the get-go.

Didnt need to break them, fit really well. They do run a little big, im usually size 7 or 7 1/2, i have wide feet so i didnt listen to the reviews, and bought size 7 as usual. However, if you’re going to use them with thick stockings, for cold weather, and have wide feet like i do, they will be fine. But if you’re not, then probably is better to size down.

I just got these first impression is they are very nice seem solid and sturdy i’m usually a 7.5 but i’m recently becoming a size 8 so i got the 8. Fits nice not too loose can wiggle my toes my wide feet don't feel cramped . I’m hoping the boot shaft wont irritate my ankles because they do rub against them so I’ll probably need to wear high socks or stockings .

These are less rough to break in than other Docs I’ve had (looking at you, Jadons). It takes about two days to break them in, and during that time, there’s some discomfort but not really pain. After they’re broken in, they’re so comfortable it’s ridiculous. They look great. Docs do run a tad big, so if you’re between sizes, you could probably size down. I’m about a 7.5 but I usually stick to the 8 with boots so I have room for thicker socks. The 8 for these is very roomy for me. Other reviews mention that these are hard to get on, which they do require a little pulling and stretching, but I think some of them were exaggerating. I put my foot in vertically and use the strap to pull them on. I’ve yet to have any issues getting them on or off, and the more you wear them, the easier it gets.

I often size up in most footwear because I have quite wide feet- however with these boots, having read other reviews I was hesitant to buy “true to size” (I’m typically an 8-8.5) and went with a size 7. Glad I did- these boots definitely fit a size larger than what you’d normally buy, so the 7 is perfect! If you’re still unsure I would recommend trying on a pair of Docs in a similar style at a local store to get an idea of what you’re dealing with.
End of the day very happy with the style and fit, and they’re comfortable enough to wear all day!
