Editorial Reviews
A line from the first song written for the album perhaps sums up the project as a whole best: "there's always been a stranger in my soul / who loves a good goodbye and a good hello," she sings in "Tourist"; On Palomino, her inner stranger travels lyrically from Fort Worth to the Mojave Desert; Battambang, Cambodia to Maine; the Crystal Palace in Bakersfield to the Rocky Mountains and beyond. In each destination and with every character met along the way, Lambert's freewheeling trek is a work of unbridled freedom and self-discovery without painful introspection.
"The making of this record has been one of the most fun and creative experiences of my career," reflects the woman who holds the title of most-awarded artist in ACM history. "Luke Dick, Natalie Hemby, and I went out to my farm in Tennessee in 2020 and started writing songs. We figured while we have time let's get out to the country and see what happens. The first one we wrote was 'Tourist' and that set us on a path to create something with a bit of a theme. Since we couldn't travel at the time, we decided to go on a journey through songs. I hope y'all are ready to travel with us wandering spirits and meet some cool characters with great stories."

- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2022Miranda Lambert - Palomino (RCA)
A definite change in the wind for Miranda, who has taken a great deal of pop and rock into her country sound to the point where the music on this CD is half country and half rock-pop.
Now don’t get me wrong, this is a wonderful record, but Miranda is trying some new twists to her established country. The first half of this 15 song CD is commercial rock, with the second half being traditional mainstream country. And both done very well. It is at once a charmer and a winner. Take the song “Music City Queen” with its country vocals, pop and rock solos and none other than the B-52s on backing vocals; one can easily see where her music is taking her.
This is not to say she’s abandoned country music. The entire back end of the CD is pure country. “That’s What Makes the Jukebox Play” is a beautiful soft country ballad with Miranda’s emotive yet laidback voice giving the song a piece of wheatfield soul; and the country-pop rhythm of “Country Money” and “If I Was a Cowboy” clearly shows she has not forgotten her roots.
But the entire front end of this exquisite CD can be found in songs such as “Geraldine” and “Actin’ Up”, which indicates a potential new addition to her overall sound.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2023Yes ... another phenomenal CD by Miranda. Miranda is one of five artist I buy every one of her CDs.
Her music is always creative, fun, and heartfelt.
I prefer buying CD's for traveling. I'm not fond of trying to locate a station just to locate a signal. Much more relaxing to load 10 CD's and drive.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2023I have every album Miranda has made and I love them all. I also like this one but she has added some "pop" sounding songs on this disc which, don't get me wrong are still good, but I didn't enjoy them as much as her previously released material. I realize that musicians and their music must evolve but, to me, this was a big departure from the way she has performed in the past. Do I regret buying the CD? Absolutely not. Any Miranda Lambert fan will enjoy this disc. Looking forward to her next one.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2023I have loved Miranda Lambert's singing since she was on that country music competition show. She quite literally has the voice of an angel with her gentle southern drawl and charming demeanor. The songs on this album and sung so passionately and vividly. Terrific CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Slow burner
There's always a air of anticipation when Miranda releases a new album. Can she continue to produce music to the level of her previous releases? For me this one was a slow burner. The first couple of plays didn't inspire me apart from a couple of songs (the ones that have had air play) but the more I play it, the more the quality of the songs begins to come through. Maybe that's because I've got so used to listening to her existing music that anything unfamiliar that isn't punchy doesn't immediately hit the mark. Would I recommend this album? Yes, it's not the lively upbeat music that Miranda has released over the last couple of years, this one is more thoughtful but will stand the test of time and will provide her with more hits.
