    Despite Bloc Party being one of my favorites bands, for some reason, I thought this album would fall slightly behind all of their previous ones. Unsurprisingly, I was wrong. Each track is catchy and poetic, and certainly has that Bloc Party vibe. Very glad to have this in my CD collection.

    I discovered Bloc Party at the end of 2005, months after their debut album, "Silent Alarm" was released. I liked their debut quite a bit, and I felt they stood out from the rest of the New Wave revivalist bands at that time. They had an energy few bands elicited at that time.

    However, with each successive release, I was less interested. In fact, their last three albums didn't do much for me at all. I turned to lead singer, Kele Okereke's solo work. His 2010 debut, "The Boxer" was exhilarating, but with each release thereafter, my interest waned.

    Additionally, after Bloc Party's fourth album, "Four" (2012), they lost half the band. So when "Hymns" was released in 2016, I felt that to be an all time low for the band.

    So, with expectations set very low for "Alpha Games", I was pleasantly surprised at how much of a return to form this album is. It might very well be my second or third favorite Bloc Party album behind "Silent Alarm" and "A Weekend in the City" (2007).

    Most of the songs are quite good, if not exactly catchy or completely memorable. The band has definitely moved back in the right direction. I hope they keep going and don't wait another six years to release their next album. More of this, please.
