About

DESTROYER IN CONCERT:

Canadian indie rock innovators Destroyer are masters of reinvention, treating fans to new worlds of sonic and emotional territory with each successive album. On 2013's Five Spanish Songs EP, frontman Dan Bejar explored his Latin heritage with five Spanish-language pop songs, but fans at the band's eclectic live shows are just as likely to dance to kaleidoscopic disco tracks like "A Savage Night at the Opera" as they are to hear "Maria de las Nieves". A charismatic showman known for his soft croon and poetic lyrics, Bejar always cooks up a truly memorable experience on the band's must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Destroyer began in Vancouver in the mid-'90s as the bedroom recording project of Dan Bejar. After releasing a lo-fi debut album in 1996 titled We'll Build Them a Golden Bridge, Bejar teamed up with producer John Collins for his first proper studio album, 1998's City of Daughters. Over the course of several more albums Bejar continually reinvented the project's sound, adding a full backing band for 2000's grandiose, polished Thief before switching to a raw rock sound for 2002's This Night. A string of diverse albums followed throughout the '00s, paving the way for Destroyer's critically acclaimed 2011 album Kaputt, a masterpiece that landed on numerous best-of lists and was named the year's second best album by Pitchfork. A magnetic and engaging performer, Bejar continues to dazzle ticket buyers on Destroyer's unforgettable tours.

    Dan Is King

by KittyBubs on 5/25/22The Belasco - Los Angeles

Dan will always blow your mind in the most beautiful way. Also, the Belasco’s bag policy is fascist and discriminatory, for starters. The fact that anyone accepts this is sickening. And Dan will always blow your mind in the most beautiful way.

    Muddy sound was the Destroyer.

by The Hick on 5/23/22The Belasco - Los Angeles

Friday night's Destroyer performance at The Belasco was plagued with muddy sound, but the crowd was enthusiastic for familiar songs and those off the new record. I have seen Destroyer at least four times before and the sound was never so bad. I don't know what to blame. Could it be the room or was it disinterest from the sound crew? \ Rosali was good, and her sound was better, but not much.

    Poor

by Amy on 4/26/22Neptune Theatre - Seattle

Singer read the lyrics from a paper. I would appreciate them to memoriZe and know their song if im paying $50+ to watch their performance. We couldn’t stand further for their poor performance and left the show in 3rd song.

Destroyer: Hipsters can still be cool!

by Gruffle on 10/5/15Royale Boston - Boston

Daniel Bejar is the beat poet of the 21st century. His brooding demeanor and artistry with words seems to come from a genuine and wonderous place. His noir trench coat, homeless hair and scruffy beard say I just woke up like this, and i drink the Kool aid. Not like the stale beards and black t-shirts we see at artisinal craft beer pubs all around the world these days. No product necessary. 100% pure, unaltered bejar. An artist who made it cool to think and consider meaning and enjoy being an artist or a mimic or whatever you are with no apologies. For his current poison season tour his backing band are top notch musicians who can play the best of kaputt and destroyer's rubies while rocking the new tracks. They create a woven 3000 thread count sheet of sound that juxtapose and interweave with his powerful, king size words. Truly love the guy! Do not, ever, miss a destroyer show!

SO much more than you might expect

by RjDj on 9/22/15The Fillmore - San Francisco

I love this band first off. They seem quiet and jazz/pop friendly upon a first listen or two...and are hard to put in a single musical category. If you listen to their catalogue you will be amazed at the underlying cacophony going on all the time. This layered sound is not only realised seeing them live, but emphasised. The driving force present in most songs was the horns. The sax player was just on nearly the whole time while the trumpet (master) played into a mic and often wasn't featured while the band was playing as he was looping his own tracks live and would insert his bits after the fact. AMAZING. What a perfectly paced show and what an honour to see these accomplished musicians perform live.

    Great venue & performance

by SlothsRock on 11/15/13Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

What a great night. The dimmed lighting in the synagogue coupled with Dan Bejar's taciturn musings made for an enjoyable show. I highly recommend the venue and, of course, Destroyer's unending lyrical and musical prowess.

    Bejar delivers!

by BoyscoutDC on 11/14/13Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - Washington

This is one of those concerts that exceeded my expectation. A friend warned me that the concert would be a snoozefest but it turned out the exact opposite. It was a retrospective setlist but Bejar also performed at least one new composition. *Disclaimer: English is not my first language
