Bowers & Wilkins PX7 Over-ear noise-canceling wireless headphones

Built from legend
Bowers & Wilkins PX7 are high performance over-ear headphones designed to deliver the highest quality mobile personal audio experience combined with the convenience of wireless operation and the serenity of noise-cancellation.
The 43mm drivers in the PX7 are the largest in our headphone collection, built and tuned by the same engineers behind the Bowers & Wilkins 800 Series diamond speakers used in Abbey road studios
Adaptive noise cancellation | PX7 features our latest innovations in adaptive noise cancellation, this includes intelligent sensing that adapts noise cancellation and tuning best suited to your surrounding environment. As your surroundings change, noise cancellation will auto adapt to complement your new environment. |
Wear Sensors | PX7 incorporates our latest enhanced wear detection sensors in both earpieces, enabling intelligent battery conservation by entering standby when removed from the head. When worn again, PX7 automatically wakes and connects to the last connected Bluetooth device. |
Ambient Pass-Through | Allows some external noise from the surrounding environment, such as safety announcements or conversations, to be heard without taking the headphones off. |
Multi-Function | Connect up to 2 devices at the same time and when streaming audio, receiving a call on the second device will automatically pause playback and the call will be routed automatically to your headphones. Ending the call will automatically resume playback from the first device. |
aptX Adaptive | No matter what you're listening to, hear what you were meant to hear. The new aptX Adaptive codec gives you pure, unmatched audio, whether you're traveling, moving, or standing still in the sound. |

- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2019Color: Space GreyVerified PurchaseFirstly, any new headphones will take a good few hours of listening for your ears to "adjust" to them, so keep that in mind. I love their neutral audio balance. The bass is definitely there and you hear it clearly and audibly, but it's not going to kick you in the head. The neutral balance is unique to Bowers & Wilkins in the way that you can hear the entire range of audio, no matter what style of music you listen to (and trust me, I listen to a healthy amount of rock, metal, and electronic styles).
Next, along with the neutral audio balance, the positioning of the sound stage is superior to the competition. The drivers are pointed forward at about 30-45 degrees, so it sounds like your face is right in front of a speaker and the sound comes from right in front of you, then forms around your head and into your ears. At least, that's what it sounds like to me after my ears adjusted.
The only set-back is the microphone on these. Yes, you can take phone calls using the Bluetooth features, but good luck trying to get your friends to understand what you're saying. It's best to use these strictly as an audio listening device, forget the phone call features.
Apart from the lack of microphone functionality, the REST OF THE FUNCTIONS ARE INCREDIBLE for these headphones. They know (most of the time) when they're being taken off or onto your head and over your years, they'll pause the music when one or both of the ear cups are not on your ears. They come with a USB cable that serves not only as a charger, but also WORKS ON PS4 (and maybe other gaming consoles?) AS A USB AUDIO DEVICE! Furthermore, my favorite part, they come with a 3.5mm-3.5.mm cable to use as direct line-in audio for those of you that want to hear it through your fancy Quad-HD HiFi DAC device.
Noise-cancellation is pretty darn good, but could use a little improvement. I work in a noisy office and when I put these on High ANC I can barely hear the loud chatter and clicking of keyboards & mice. However, I think the Active Noise Cancellation is still not up-to-par to completely cancel-out the decibels of walking down a busy city sidewalk.
Lastly, but equally important to the rest of why this got a 4-star review, the BUILD QUALITY IS A HUGE IMPROVEMENT FROM PREVIOUS GENERATIONS. The leather material on the ear cups is soft, comfortable, and doesn't press against the top of my jaw line like the P9 headphones. The leather ear cups are removable and replaceable if they wear-out or get damaged. The PX7s are durable, made with brushed carbon fiber (same material that you'll see on Ferrari or Lambourghini cars in some cases). Despite their weight/mass, they feel lighter than they are, which gives a boost to their comfortability rating.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2020Color: SilverVerified PurchaseI’ve been trying numerous wireless headphones and currently own the Sony WH-1000XM4’s, the Sennheiser Momentum 3’s and the Beats Solo Pro. I tried the Bose NC700 Headphones as well but didn’t keep them (liked the design but the sound didn’t do it for me). At this point the Bowers & Wilkins PX7’s are winning this contest. They sound great, very balanced sound and the soundstage is the widest of all I’ve tried. You can hear everything distinctly in different places and it’s really amazing. I do hear things with these that I don’t with other headphones. The noise canceling is very strong, possibly because the noise isolation is so good with the way the ear cups are designed. They are light weight but have a very solid build quality that feels premium (unlike the Sony’s which feel a little cheap). They are very comfortable as the ear cups sit completely around my ears (again, unlike the Sony’s which sit on my ears and get mildly uncomfortable after a short time). Also the battery life is spectacular and exactly as advertised at 30 hours (again, unlike the Sony’s which are supposed to last as long but don’t, at least not for me). I do wish the app had an equalizer function but I find the default sound so good I’m not sure I would even use it. The carrying is is as solid as the headphones, well designed and fits in my bag with no issues (some complain they don’t fold up but I don’t find this to be an issue at all. They do connect to two devices at once and you set in the app wether they should connect to the same device first or the last one connected to. My only real complaint is with the wear sensors as they rarely work for me. If you turn the sensors off and then back on again with the headphones flat and put them on after they connect it will reset it and it will function for a bit but never seems to last...but this isn’t a deal breaker as the button to pause music is very well designed and easy to find and press by feel so I don’t really need it anyway. Just something to keep in mind if considering purchasing these. Overall I love these and also think they look cool (I love the design of the momentum 3’s, in white, when on a table bit think they look really goofy wearing them with the steel arms and exposed wires) and I highly recommend them (they are a little big, as are most over-ear headphones and I think the silver color makes them look less bulky than the darker space grey and upcoming carbon black versions. Just my opinion though.

3.0 out of 5 stars These headphones needs an EQ to sound good
Color: Carbon EditionVerified PurchaseEQ is pretty much mandatory. The bass is overpronounced, which might be fine in current times. However, the mids are horrific and cut your ears with sharp "S" sounds. The highs are pretty much nonexistent. I had to crank up the highs around 10-12 decibels and turn down the mids about 3-4 decibels. Now they sound fine while listening through the 3.5mm jack. The drivers are very good and can produce sound with high clarity at high volume levels as long as you set up an EQ.
The headphones themselves have exceptional build quality; you really get a premium feel.
They clamp pretty hard around your ears so people who wear glasses should pay extra heed since they can start to hurt during long sessions.
