Kirtan: Turiya Sings features Alice Coltrane at peak spirituality and is presented in this arrangement for the first time. Turyia Sings was originally released in 1982 on cassette as a collection of devotional songs including vocals, organ, strings, and synthesizers available only at Alice's Sai Anantam Ashram.

I love this album and the packaging as well. It's printed by impulse records the artwork is great. All the notes and words on the album cover. I didn't realize it but there's a book that comes with it too which is also beautiful. It has writings from two of Alice Cotrane's children talking about her and her spiritual devotion. Can't see enough good things about this offering from Impulse Records.

    Alice Coltrane findet sich wohl in der Plattensammlung jedes relevanten Musikers und inspirierte mit ihrer Musik zahllöse kreative Größen. Besonders ihre spirituell orientierten Werke sind ohne Vergleich und betonen noch einmal ihre Eigenständigkeit. Die hier gesammelten Chants sollten ursprünglich lediglich den Mitgliedern ihres Kults als spirituelle Übung und Unterstützung dienen, so können auch Fans sich daran erfreuen. Ich mag besonders ihre zurückhaltende musikalische Orientierung, die eine ganz klare Hierarchie zwischen Individuum und übergeordnetem Ziel setzt. Neben Dorothy Ashby meine liebste Harpistin und absolut einen Kauf wert.
