However, some say that it has a hard time with larger debris, the edge cleaning isn't fantastic, and that you need to clean the dust filter often. Additionally, some customers also mention that the vacuum can blow paperwork around.

428 customers mention137 positive291 negative

Customers are mixed about the battery life of the vacuum cleaner. Some mention that the battery is more efficient on low speed, which helps with the balance between battery duration, vacuum cleaner weight, and cleaning hardwood floors. They also appreciate the extra battery and the fact that it's removable. However, others say that they prefer it set on max so the battery doesn't last long, does loose power quite quickly, and dies after using that mode on just 2/3rds of their 900 square ft apartment.

"...This is good and bad. One this saves on battery life, but at the expense of picking up stuff...." Read more

"...I'd use it to clean a whole house, too much space and the battery can run down low easily...." Read more

"Excellent battery life! I am able to vacuum my 3000 sq ft house as well as multiple couches without the battery going low or dying...." Read more

"...Depending how dirty. The battery life is not good at all, unless you have multiple batteries which I do not. But I have a perfectly fine small house...." Read more

228 customers mention91 positive137 negative

Customers are mixed about the value of the vacuum cleaner. Some mention it's a great value for the money, while others say it'll never be worth the listing price. They also say the vacuum is pretty expensive for the low quality of suction it has. Customers also mention that the accessories are clearly light duty, and the app that goes with it is basically useless.

"...The price is high but you are paying for a high quality product I personally think is just better than Dyson...." Read more

"...This is a great value for the money. I've had this vacuum for about 7 months now, and it's been a dream...." Read more

Best Stick Vacuum on the Market
5 Stars
Best Stick Vacuum on the Market
After MUCH research I felt the Tineco Pure One S15 Pet Ex Smart (with an extra battery-$599) was by far the closest competitor to the Dyson V12 Detect Slim ($542) which is arguably Dyson's best stick vacuum, (yes, even better than the V15 Detect because it is their first and only vacuum that has an on/off button instead of a trigger you have to constantly hold down to operate, and it is lighter and quieter than the V15 and yet plenty powerful to do all your cleaning.) So I bought both the Tineco S15 and the Dyson V12. If I had purchased an extra battery with the Dyson the price of the two would have been basically the same, with the Dyson being a little more. Here is my breakdown of why I decided to keep the Tineco S15 and return the Dyson:Dyson V12 Canister problems:The biggest problem I had with the Dyson V12 was how hard it was to clean out the canister. Just simply pushing the lever down to eject the dirt wasn’t enough. My wife has long hair just past the shoulder and her hair would get caught with other debris in the upper portion of the filter chamber, the part that the lever is supposed to “scrape” past and push all the debris down and out of the canister. NOPE. It doesn’t work at all. What's more, the Dyson V12 canister lever never once emptied the debris, and I couldn’t even reach it with my fingers to get it out, because it gets trapped beyond the section reachable by your hand. So, you have to eject the entire canister and remove it completely from the unit to truly clean it all out. Then, getting that canister to slide back onto the vacuum is not easy. You have to carefully align it just so and it takes a few tries. And to make matters worse, once you close it all up again you still have a few straggling hairs that are still hanging halfway out the seal flopping in the wind that catch your eye almost every time. It’s just a terrible system. The Tineco S15, on the other hand, works flawlessly every time. It simply opens up and drops out the hair and debris and all the hair is pushed to the bottom. Its design is soooo much smarter and more effective. This issue alone was enough of a reason to skip the Dyson and keep the Tineco S15. But there’s a lot more…Dyson V12 Cleaning head problems:The next biggest issue I had with the Dyson is that I needed two separate heads to clean the hard floor and the carpet. They say the Dyson V12 motorbar is supposed to do both, but it really is not great for the hard floor and instead spits stuff around and is super noisy. I hated using it. The Dyson fluffy head with the laser was much better for the hard floor but couldn’t do anything else. The Tineco S15 has one motorized cleaning head to rule them all…and it works great on carpet and on hard floors AND, like the Dyson motorbar head it's made with a special system to not allow hair to get caught in it. Although they are both supposed to self clean, only the Tineco S15 motorized head actually did it. The Dyson always had at least some hair caught in it. I was so impressed by the Tineco S15 head, it just works every time and all that hair goes up into the canister and then out in the garbage. Just brilliant. And the wheels on the Tineco S15 head were also superior, it has nice big rubberized wheels that help you steer the vacuum easily and are quiet on all floors. The Dyson wheels are super small and hard plastic and noisy and look like they are going to break and start scratching my floors. Also, although the Dyson fluffy head works nicely but you have to clean it with soap and water every month. The Tineco S15’s motorized head that works on all floors never needs to be cleaned. Another win for the Tineco S15Dyson V12 Light problems:Sure there is a laser on the Dyson fluffy head, but I’d rather just have a regular light because the laser makes everything look like dirt because it shoots across the floor illuminating any and all indentions or protrusions, any nicks in the hardwood would appear as dirt. This is super annoying because you can’t see what’s what. With the Tineco S15 you get a nice set of LED lights across the front of the cleaning head so you can actually see the hard floor or carpet and discern for yourself what is dirt and what is not. And the Dyson V12 motorbar head doesn’t even have any light on it, so you never get to see into dark places on carpeted floors. Another win for the Tineco S15Dyson V12 Storage problems:The Tineco S15 has a free-standing base that holds the entire vacuum and can be put anywhere. It charges the battery that is in the vacuum itself when the vacuum is docked while at the same time charging a separate battery that is docked into the base. This is a brilliant design. You can essentially store your vacuum anywhere and don’t need to screw something into your wall all the while always having an extra charged battery for those long cleaning days. Even if you had an extra Dyson battery there is no way for you to charge them both at the same time. Another win for the Tineco S15.Dyson V12 problems with attachment tools:The Tineco S15 also comes with just the essential tools so you don’t have a bunch of extra tools lying around in some drawer or the back of some closet that you will never use. And the essential tools the Tineco comes with fit nicely on the base. The Tineco S15 tools are: a motorized upholstery cleaning head and a 2in1 crevice tool with a soft brush that can slide up onto its end. This is all you need for weekly cleaning. The Dyson, on the other hand, has a slew of tools you really never need and the one tool that you DO need, (the 2in1 crevice tool with the soft brush that slides up at the end) is the one tool you can’t even buy from Dyson for the V12! This, to me, is a ridiculous oversight.Dyson V12 does come with a “combination tool” which is a brush that slides forward on a hard plastic end, but it’s very short and doesn’t extend the end of the vacuum to help you get in between books and plants to dust and vacuum. And the angle of the brush is so steep it makes it hard to vacuum lamp shades or anything directly in front of you. You also have to bend over further to reach things. The Dyson V12 does have a crevice tool but there’s no brush option on its end so you have to swap that on and off when you want to use each. The Tineco S15’s 2in1 crevice/brush tool does both in a single tool, and the shape and angle of the brush is better and the brush itself is a much easier size to use and wield. The Dyson’s brush is super wide and the bristles are super long and it makes it harder to pick up debris with it. This is another win for the Tineco S15.Dyson V12 power button problems:Turning the Dyson V12 on requires two hands, one to hold the unit and the other to reach over and push the button on the top. This is super annoying because there are a lot of times your other hand is full--like when you are moving something around, like a chair or some books while you put them in another place and in those moments while you hold the vacuum you’d like to just turn off the power and not waste the battery, but you can’t do that. Whereas the Tineco S15 has a trigger that you don’t need to hold down, you just pull it once and the machine goes on and you pull it again and it goes off. It’s super simple. Come on Dyson, this isn't that hard! Another win for the Tineco S15.Dyson V12 grip problems:The grip on the Dyson V12 hurts my hand. I have average sized male hands and have used lots of power tools for my work and at one time even ran a cleaning business. I can tell you this is the most uncomfortable grip I’ve ever used on any tool ever. It’s more angular or rectangular than it needs to be and after a while leaves a sharp pain between my thumb and forefinger through the palm of my hand. I never have this pain with the Tineco S15, which is more rounded and much less uncomfortable over a longer period of time. Another win for the Tineco S15.Dyson V12 overall power and digital display problems:The Dyson’s boost mode is more powerful than the Tineco S15’s boost mode but it’s an amount of power you never need so to me it’s completely pointless and a waste of energy. And when you put the Tineco S15 in power mode it works for a long time, where as the Dyson goes dead in minutes. So again, it's pointless. The Dyson is supposed to have eco/auto/boost levels, meaning the middle level is computer controlled and automatically adjusts its power as needed. First, let me say that upon receiving the Dyson V12 there was absolutely no user manual included, not even a link or QR code to a website. This was beyond stupid and negligent. I went to the Dyson website which is an overly designed site full of bad information and is incredibly hard to make sense of and navigate. There was no way to find the V12 user manual via their search function or by looking up the unit itself, so I had to google it. Also ridiculous. Once I found the manual online it was hard to make sense of. From what I could tell, some units don’t have the auto power mode but have a “med” power mode, which I guess is considered another name for “auto” mode which is the recommended mode for the most efficient cleaning. So I used that. Later I realized that it only showed "med" mode when no motorized end was connected to it, but then when there was one it switched to saying "auto". This was confusing and dumb to me. There was no such confusion with the Tineco.I can tell you for a fact that the Dyson V12's "auto" mode wasn’t smart. I would move it into a very dirty area and it would sometimes increase its power and then suddenly slow down even though I was moving it into even more dirty area. Eventually, it seemed clear to me, that the Dyson V12's “med” or "auto" mode was just a mode that randomly chooses to sometimes throttle up the power and then it goes back down, so that you get this mix of low and higher power with no real "smart" reading of the floor. Also, to change power modes on the Dyson V12 the button is very small and not easy to hit on the fly so that was annoying as well when I did want to change it. And the Dyson V12 display is very small, and seems dated and inexpensive and toggling through its menu was a real chore. It had a very outdated user interface with long moments of holding a button just to leave certain settings or go back a screen. The UI was terrible, period. Also, when the Dyson V12 is on the wall charging you can’t see how much has been charged. If you are waiting patiently to use it again you have to walk all the way over to it to see how much time is left because the display is facing the ceiling. On the Tineco S15 the display is facing forward towards you so you can see it anywhere in the room with a simple glance. And the Tineco S15 has a lovely display that looks very sleek and contemporary. As far as the power on the Tineco S15 goes, it has a very very smart auto setting that is constantly scanning particles to know when to throttle up or down. As soon as you go into a dirty area it gets more powerful and stays there until it has cleaned the debris. It’s brilliant. And if you ever want to override the auto setting, you just hit the boost button which lasts far longer than the Dyson V12's boost. Another win for the Tineco S15Dyson V12 Noise problems:Not only does the auto power function not work well on the Dyson v12, the motor also always emits a very high pitched whine that might annoy some animals and people. I found it raking to my nerves after a while. The Tineco S15 on the other has no high-pitched whine and is much quieter overall. I could even use it while my wife was napping. Another win for the Tineco S15.Dyson customer service problems:I just have to mention that Dyson’s customer service has been terrible. I paid for 2 day shipping and the vacuum was over a week late in arriving. When I called and asked about it the call was answered by what sounded like a woman at a party, and I mean a partayyyy. I could barely hear her. I heard laughing and yelling and music and I told the woman I couldn’t hear anything because of the people partying in the background and she just gave me attitude and acted like it was my problem and refused to acknowledge her rude fellow employees and did nothing to change the situation or move to a less noisy place. This was the most unprofessional attitude and service I have ever received from a customer service department of a reputable business. Then, to make matters worse, when I asked her about my missing vacuum she put me on a long hold with some of the worst hold music I have ever listened to. When she came back she told me I had already received the vacuum! This of course was not true. What I had received was the low-reach adapter that another customer service person told me I should get to help me clean under my bed. Finally after two more long holds the woman returned from her party and refused to admit her mistake and then just casually mentioned that the V12 hadn’t shipped yet and that it would ship out later the following week and I would get it in 3-4 days. Then, hilariously, the V12 came the next day. I was so confused and it certainly did not make me feel good about trusting this company. And to pour salt on the wound, the low-reach adapter they told me to get didn’t even fit the V12! Lol, what a joke.In Conclusion:The Dyson V12 will clean your house for sure, but it’s a ton of hype and has some real disadvantages and is made by a company that doesn't seem to give two cents about its customers. When compared to the Tineco S15 the choice was simple…I returned the Dyson and kept the Tineco and I've been absolutely loving how simple it is to just lift off the base and clean all my floors, both the hard floors and the carpet in one fell swoop. Amazon has the Tineco Pure One S15 Pet Ex Smart (with an extra battery included) for $599...you won't regret it.By the way, I wasn't paid by anyone to write this, nor do I work for either of these companies. I am a self-employed interdisciplinary artist and designer that deeply cares about how things are made and how they work. When I have to make a considerable purchase I love to do deep dives into finding the very best of the best and then tell my friends about it to save them the hassle. I took over 100 hours reading and studying every stick vacuum in the US that I could read about from every reviewer and YouTuber I could find. I did my homework and wanted to pass it on to anyone out there who, like me, might care about the little things that a lot of reviewers seem to miss.... Hope it helps!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Vacuum
Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2024
Hands down this is the best vacuum cleaner I have ever owned regardless of style corded or cordless.

I have owned various Dyson and Shark models in recent years and many vacuums for the past 30 years and this one not only my new favorite but the best one all time.

Pros:
Very little maintenance- this is a big deal as most vacuums require time spent removing the roller and fighting all of the hair and anything else that has wound onto the roller. A lot of vacuums claim to have a design that prevents tangles but the Tineco has one that actually works. Every time I look at it I am amazed there is nothing, I mean nothing to clean off the roller.

Design- The vacuum tube has nothing to cause snags. What I mean by this is when you look down the tube that connects the roller to the motor it is just an empty round tube with no bumps or narrowing. Some Shark models have obstructions used to store wiring components that narrow the tube diameter at one end which causes a ton of clogging. That is a major Shark design flaw which has frustrated me many times as the whole tube would be filling with dirt.

The plunger to remove the dirt is awesome. No more digging your hand in to clean out the bin. Just plunge and go. I will never bust another vacuum without this feature.

The auto speed control is ingenious. The machine can sense more dirt being collected and increases power until the dirt collection returns to normal levels. The display is also nice as you can visually see it increase speed going from blue to red gradients when more power is needed. Just amazing!

The charging station- well designed to hold the extra tools and will charge both the battery in the vacuum and the one plugged directly into the base. I highly recommend the two battery version. More to come on that point.

Most importantly it cleans the floors well. I have a big carpeted area on our lower level and the remaining house is hardwood floors with areas rugs. There are no roller changes. Just vacuum and most everything gets picked up and very clean.

Cons:

In the auto mode the regular suction is not as strong as some other vacuums. This is good and bad. One this saves on battery life, but at the expense of picking up stuff. I would say that I need to rollover the area sometimes more that I would with other vacuums to get everything clean.

It is not the best at picking up big items or heavy particles. For example it struggled with popcorn kernels and just ok with Cheerios. Weirdly it was good at picking up pine needles from our Christmas tree.. I had other vacuums fail at this before, mostly getting clogged in the tube. If you turn off auto you can vacuum at the high speed all of the time but that will wear down the battery life quickly.

The price is high but you are paying for a high quality product I personally think is just better than Dyson.

In summary this vacuum will clean all of your floors well, super ease to maintain and clean, and the features like the snag free roller, plunge dirt removal, auto speed are incredible. If you have a small apartment then you could get the one battery version, but I highly recommend the two battery version with the storing station. I have a 2800 sq ft home and I need both batteries to finish the job with little to charge spare. This vacuum is a joy to use and I high recommend making this your go to vac.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent vacuum - a few complaints
Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2022
I did a TON of research about different vacuums before deciding to buy this one. I'm the kind of person to do extensive research before a big purchase and this vacuum hit all my marks. It is a really good vacuum, and I don't regret buying it at all. However, there are both good and bad things about it.
I live in an apartment with both hard floors and carpet and I have a cat. I wanted a vacuum that was good on all floors and was good with pet hair. This vacuum is VERY good with pet hair. My cat sheds like crazy. Every time I use this thing, it picks up a lot. It's good with carpet and hard floors but sometimes the wheels don't rotate enough and there's a little bit of scratching on the hard floors. I don't mind it, though. It's not very often and not intense. The vacuum is relatively quiet compared to others I've owned and being so small, it's easy to store. It doesn't get very close to edges or corners but the plethora of add-ons really help with that. Just snap on the thin nozzle and corners are clean. It's pretty lightweight and and I LOVE the switch that keeps the trigger down for you because after holding down on it for ten minutes, my finger starts to hurt. The charging station (see image) works fine on the floor. As a renter, I was worried I'd have to bolt it to a wall. You do not have to. While the small thing is pretty powerful, I'd call this a good apartment vacuum. I don't think I'd use it to clean a whole house, too much space and the battery can run down low easily. I do 5-10 minutes twice a week and after about two weeks it needs recharging. Supposedly there's an app you can get with this vacuum? Haven't touched it. Not necessary.
Now, some of the complaints. This vacuum requires *maintenance*. I have long hair and if I don't cut out the hair after a few uses, the vacuum goes nuts with extra suction. In addition, the "dust sensor" essentially just tracks how much suction the vacuum thinks it needs to use to pick up dirt. That being said, I have found this vacuum does NOT work on my bathroom rug or thick carpets which might easily create a suction problem. The entire dust sensor lights up red and the vacuum has a little panic attack. Better on standard or flat carpets or hard floors. DEFINITELY follow all the maintenance and cleaning rules. After having the vacuum about a month, I was wondering why it suddenly using lots more suction and causing a fit. The pre-filter in the vacuum was ridden with dust and needed to be washed, but that's on me. Problem mostly cleared up after that. Definitely empty the dust collector after every use and you may need to reach inside to pull out clumps of hair or fuzz. If the vacuum does have a problem (ie extra suction, not spinning, stuck on floor) I give it a good clean, remove any hair, and turn it off and on. That seems to do the trick.
Overall, I like this vacuum and it's good for an apartment with a cat. It's not perfect and a little pricey but splitting it three ways with my roommates makes it worth it. Happy with my purchase!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome vacuum — and better than a Dyson!

Amazing product! I ordered the S11 and it arrived earlier than expected. It was nicely packed and much lighter than I expected.

I was able to try it right out of the box and, I have to say, I was impressed! I ran it over what I thought were already clean floors and after a few minutes the canister had a lot of collected debris. At first I thought the vacuum was difficult to maneuver but once you figure out its actually very smooth, just needs some gentle wrist motion.

The dock is that well-designed since it can hold the accessories and I think the pre-filter cleaning tool is a really smart addition (and it works). I just wish the dock had a place to store it along with the accessories.

Definitely a great purchase and wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Tineco product in the future. Pre-purchase customer service was excellent too. Only things I would have liked in the unit would be a battery percentage indicator on the screen and a second battery.

Update 2021: Still a great vacuum and I can’t praise their customer service enough! Highly recommend.
