This small rice maker is perfect for 2-4 people. It fits easily in a kitchen cabinet (unlike fancier multi-function pots). Put in rinsed rice, fill with water to the appropriate line in the pot, close, and press the switch. You don't have to watch the cooker at all - no boiling over, no over cooking. There are no settings or choices - on it cooks and off it goes when it is done. Let the rice sit for 10+ minutes, fluff with a fork, and enjoy. Cleans easily with a soft cloth and mild dish soap.
It comes with a rice spoon and measuring cup. NOTE: the cup is not a standard US measure, so when it says the pot makes 3 cups, it is 3 of the smaller measuring "cups." It will still make enough for an average family of 4. There is a steam plate that you can purchase, but the pot is small enough that it would probably not be useful as a steamer. If you want to do anything besides rice making, this is probably not the pot for you. But if you want an inexpensive and easy way to make great rice, but this cooker.

The rice cooker is an efficient and time-saving kitchen appliance that cooks perfect rice every time. How Is Rice Measured? What Does The Capacity Mean?
Every Zojirushi rice cooker comes with a plastic measuring cup. This cup has a capacity of 6-ounces, or about 3/4 of a U.S. measuring cup. The capacity of the rice cooker is counted in these 6-ounce cups of uncooked rice. One 6-ounce cup of raw rice makes about 3, 6-ounce cups of cooked rice. Do not confuse the rice cooker measuring cup with U.S. measuring cups; they are different. All Zojirushi rice cookers come with a special measuring cup and nonstick rice spatula for serving. The capacity of a rice cooker is stated in the numbers of 6-ounce cups of raw rice.

Not really good for more than one cup of brown rice
I decided to buy this because I really suck at making brown rice. White rice, any variety, I'm a champ. But I decided I wanted to get more fiber and eat healthier and thought eating more brown rice sounded like a good idea, but cooking it on the stove, I've had mixed luck. When you're cooking something for almost an hour on the stove, there are a lot of variables that can mess up your "cook this for X minutes" recipe.I bought this because I wanted something small and relatively inexpensive and importantly, foolproof. I did some research on how rice cookers work. Basically, they boil at water at 100 C/212 F and then wait for the water to evaporate enough to get past that temperature. Once it's just barely past boiling (which it won't get until enough of the water is absorbed/evaporated), then the rice, in theory, should be done.The first batch of white rice I made, I did the exact measurements in the manual for 1 cup of dry rice. I used Jasmine. It was honestly perfect. Better than any stove rice I've managed to make, which surprised me, because I thought white rice on the stove was pretty easy/foolproof.Today, I decided to try brown rice. Since it's not just a trial run, I'm actually making food for my family, I decided to do 2 cups of brown rice, and the water the booklet called for (0.4 L, I think the instructions said). Because the book didn't do a great job of explaining whether you put the water in up to the level on the bowl first, I went and looked at the Zojirushi website where it said to put the water in, then the rinsed rice. So I did just that. Everything looked good and I turned the machine on. After about 10 minutes, so much water and steam started coming out of the machine, I had to put a paper towel on top so that my counter wouldn't get all covered in water. When that got soaked after a couple of minutes, I did another. When that got soaked, I had to pull out a shamwow style of towel and a sponge to catch any overflow. (Picture shown after I pulled the towel off so you can see the steam/water coming out). After about 10 minutes of that, the water boiling subsided to just enough that the towel and sponge were no longer needed.Hoping the rice is worth the trouble! In the future, if you eat more than a few servings of rice in your family, you might want to get a slightly larger rice cooker. Since it's just me, my husband, and my son, we really don't need the full two dry cups (to whatever cooked amount that creates...6 cups?), so I think we'll be fine just doing the one dry cup. Hopefully this helps someone!

However, the first time I used it, it spewed rice water everywhere. I had to put a kitchen towel on top of it to prevent it from making a huge mess. After reading the reviews, I realized I needed to wash the rice a lot better. My old rice cooker was way more lenient about this, but here you need to wash and drain the rice 4-5 times until the water runs almost clear-- see picture attached. That solved my rice water spraying problems entirely!
It's also pretty small, which is great for saving on counter space. Only negative is that there's no holder for the rice spatula, so I just keep that in my drawers.

I got the 3 cup model. This rice cooker is very easy to use and wash, and cooks quickly. I timed it, and 1 cup of rice (using their measuring cup) cooked in just 19.5 minutes. I'm a very spontaneous meal-maker, so not having to wait for my rice to finish cooking every time I made a stir fry has been really nice. 20 minutes is just enough time to start making rice, then prep ingredients and cook for faster recipes, or to start making rice as soon as I start cooking for others.Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2023
