Ok, I'm re-reviewing this item. I have used it quite a bit, and while I'm not picky about color and some of the other things people complained about, I am picky when it comes to durability. My spout to drain water, and the button on top are off more than the are on. This cheeses me off. I paid more than I usually do for a drainer and I really do expect quality. I probably wont be getting a second one for my motorhome. Too bad, I wanted to really like this item.
FORM: It gets rid of the visual clutter inherent in 2-tier dish racks. It also takes up less counter space than other single level dish racks when the sliding bottom is unextended. Lastly, it is visually lovely - a true designer piece. The white is NOT pure white, but rather off white. Anyone who's had white plastic go yellow on them will understand why off white is a much better choice and, indeed, is much more aesthetically pleasing than pure white would be.
FUNCTION: Aside from aesthetics, it also just does its job well. The extending piece is great for bowls, while the rubberized prongs and utensil holder take care of everything else. The drain spout works BEAUTIFULLY. I've been using the rack for over 2 months now, and haven't had to do more than a quick swipe with the sponge to keep the whole thing looking like it just came out of the box. I'll definitely be buying more products from the Joseph Joseph line.
I do have some regrets though. I thought the white and green looked clean and fresh. But with the water in my area I’m afraid it may end up not so bright white like I like. That aside, it does add great color to the sink area. But If I bought it again, I would go for the stainless.
Beware: I do love being able to expand it when I need to and it was one of the features that sold me. But, when you slide it out you have to be careful or it separates completely. I mean it’s easy enough to remedy but I thought it was connected better.
Also, if your sink has a raised edge like mine, it will not be at the proper angle to drain. I placed a green (that matches) three-ring binder under it to help give it the proper slope to drain and it’s been great. It would have been nice if the back legs were longer than the front to give it the angle naturally without assistance but it was easy to remedy.
All In all I think it’s a great drainer. I was hesitant to buy at first due to the cost and almost just grabbed one at TJ Maxx or somewhere but I really liked the idea of expansion and couldn’t find anything like this at a bargain price. If this lasts long enough it will be worth the price for sure because it very much suits my needs.
What I like:
1) Durable Plastic that easily comes apart for a quick rinse and dry
2) The utensil holder can be placed anywhere. It has large drain holes so doesn’t hold water and collect gunk. Utensils dry quickly
3) The drain board can be expanded. It does have a “catch” so you won’t accidentally pull the two pieces apart
4) The ribbing in the front half are well made so things stay where you put them instead of sliding down
5) The circular “drain” button is raised to allow water to run out the spout. It can be pulled up with a bit of a tug to clean so mildew doesn’t start growing but do it carefully. Look for the holes to reinsert
5) I put the front feet over the side of the sink as pictured to give more of a slant allowing more water to drain.
*Nothing I don’t like. I’m 70 years old and this is the best drain board I’ve ever had. Dishes dry quickly. Easy to take apart to occasionally clean. Best of all no more gunk and mildew buildup and no rusting😀

PS: I should perhaps mention that we are unfortunately not hand washing a lot and needed a hand washing drying rack because our dishwasher (surprise, surprise) is broken (he wants to use the dishwasher, I want to wash by hand ... Before, we didn't have a rack at all!) So this rack strikes a compromise because of its aesthetic appeal and I plan to hopefully introduce the "concept of hand washing", starting first with delicate items and gradually moving on maybe to doing more and more by hand. I cannot comment yet on how absolutely utilitarian this item is, especially over the long term, but it is solid enough for our purposes for the time being.
