On The Original, I love the blade on one side to use as a root knife/Hori Hori knife, the point ( unfortunately - on this new one, :( now they’ve rounded it & thinned it). I like the etched measurements for bulb/root depth, the comfortable handle, hook for hanging in a bin, red so you don’t lose it, blades back for cutting vine/stem and both new/old have a Hefty yet comfy weight proving it won’t bend or act like a toy. This is a proper tool and I enjoy that feeling.
Both new/old, You can use it sideways as a hoe to decimate weeds, divide plants with its side that has a lightly sedated blade (new model has dulled this too, unfortunately) and dig/transplant like the wind!
One issue is if you’re left handed, then the serrated blade is on the opposite side.
I’m a righty so it’s a non issue.
Lefties,, take note!
So I am admittedly sad -but not distraught- that they’ve cheapened this perfect tool in 14 years slightly by dulling the serrated left side blade + rounded/thinned the pointed tip. Those were my favourite parts and why I reupped with a new one. Looks like they not only dulled the point but thinned it too.
I suppose One could grind it down to make a blade edge but that was another reason I repurchased the same tool, it’s just a bummer that Corona opted to save money and maybe alter a perfect tool for potential liability for someone poking themselves with a tool. Tools are dangerous. Just be aware. And if you have trouble with a pointy trowel, you don’t even wanna KNOW about chainsaws!
