The Arpège platter is a hand painted ceramic piece that is part of a set of objects conceived by the Franco-Polish designer Marta Bakowski, in collaboration with Maison Matisse.
All the tableware in the La Musique collection is suitable for food use. The Arpège platter can be used for a variety of fruit and vegetable displays, or as a serving dish to highlight your most wonderful recipes.
Its ornamental decoration makes it the ideal object to provide character to your interior decoration, playing with shapes and colors representative of the master's painting.

You can choose to combine it with our Octave pitcher or Canon bottle to decorate your table with colorful and festive notes.

Arts and materials

Made entirely by hand in a family-run factory based in Tuscany for over 100 years, the Arpège dish is first cast and then demolded to obtain its round, hollow, and generous shape. It is then fired two more times in order to fix the decorative paint, which was applied by hand by a master decorator after the first firing. The final result is a testimony to the historical excellence of artistic ceramics, as well as to the tradition and know-how that have made “Made in Italy” products famous worldwide.

Henri Matisse's La Musique (1939) was selected to give its stamp to the eponymous collection. The philodendron leaf is notably present on the Arpège platter, as is the grid pattern appearing in the picture's background. The platter's decoration is given perspective by the use of a matte finish for the entire piece, providing it with a unique decorative character.

Inspiration

Simple in form, the Arpège platter takes its esthetic tempo from the perfect chord it strikes between the patterns and colors featured in "La Musique," painted by Henri Matisse in 1939, which inspired this collection.

Marta Bakowski

Maison Matisse invited the young designer Marta Bakowski to create its first permanent collection inspired by the painting La Musique (1939). The Franco-Polish designer took the palette of colors and brilliantly reinterpreted the most representative themes of Henri Matisse's work, such as the philodendron leaf, the figure of the woman and music.
