Why We Like The Rab Neutrino Pro Jacket

Rab's Neutrino Pro Jacket is our go-to insulator for mountaineering 4,000-meter peaks, and zip it up whenever winter freezes our front doors. It's seriously warm and remarkably packable so we can take it up the highest peaks or on the coldest commutes to work. Rab used Pertex's ultra-thin, highly water-resistant Pertex Quantum Pro shell to ensure solid weather protection in extreme conditions.

Great jacket

Size Bought:
L

Lightweight and warm for usual winter hikes. But it's not for extreme cold weather. For 7k summits you need something else. But it fits to my requirements and I really like it.

I purchased the Rab Neutrino Pro for a big trek and have tested it out in the rather cold Kansas weather (outings in below 0 deg. F) and the coat performed extremely well. Comfortable over several layers, easy to adjust, easy to move in, maneuver gear. Very pleased.

Favorite Puffy

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
small

Purchased to have a warmer puffy for mountaineering. Super impressed with how light and warm this thing is! Keeps me warm for summits at high altitude (12-18k). Doesn't pack down as small as my "ghost-whisperer" but it's sooo much warmer... Also good for dog walking here in Colorado. Usually purchase a small; Still had a good amount of room to go on top of other layers at summits. Solid piece of gear.

Not warm

Got this for wear around town. Where I live the winter wind is normally 20-35 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Temps in winter teens and twenties, but single digits not uncommon. Last year two days in December -30. At a temp of 29 degrees, wind about 20 mph this jacket is not warm. One sleeve has a cold spot near crook in arm.

Got this jacket for trek last summer to K2 in Pakistan for staying warm in camp. Did well with temps down to low-mid 20s F. Also used for late season backpacking with temps to low 30s in camp and kept me warm - and light and compressible enough to fit in ultralight pack with total weight of 27 lbs. Now I am wearing it whenever I get a chance - even for walks in city! Features like hood and its adjustment, zippers, waist cinch, high neck are well-designed. Fabric is strong and shed light precip. Love it.

I bought this jacket for a friend who lives in Canada. When it arrived it was flat and did not feel warm at all when I wore it outside. I've hung it outside overnight and hopefully the air moving through it will make it look like the ad photo. I will update this review once my friend tries it in the Canadian outdoors.

Warm - as advertised!

On sizing, I am 5’10”, 175 pounds, 40” chest, 32” waist. Medium was a nice fit with room for a sweater. Like the length and hood. Odd to say - but with so many jackets having weak zippers (Arctyrex) the zipper on this jacket is robust! Zips great and feels hearty! This is a great jacket to wear on bitter cold days. I have no suggestions on improvement. Worth consideration!

I last had a down outer garment when I was a teenager, but now I wonder why I waited so long to get reacquainted. There’s something magical about wearing something that you can barely detect that keeps you so warm. I tried on and returned this RAB model. It’s a great jacket, featuring a truly useful hood that fits the head/face very well. However, I embarked upon additional RAB product research, and I settled on the Infinity jacket for improved wind resistance, increased insulation weight, and its differentiated shell construction. I’m a 44-45 chest, 38 waist, 171/2 neck and 34-35 sleeve; the XL fit me about perfectly.
