About Seiko
In 1877, at the age of 18, Kintaro Hattori set up business repairing the Western-style clocks that were becoming increasingly popular in Japan. By 1892, Hattori was manufacturing his own clocks in a factory he called Seikosha, from the words "seiko" meaning "exquisite," "success," or "miniature," and "sha" meaning "house." The company grew and prospered, producing its first wristwatch in 1913 and launching the Seiko brand in 1924. Technological innovation has always been a driving force in the company's history. Key milestones include Seiko's introduction of the world's first quartz watch in 1969, and its successful launch, in 1988, of the Kinetic, the world's first battery-free watch with quartz accuracy. Recognized for its technological excellence, Seiko has provided timekeeping services for the Olympic Games and the World Cup Soccer Championships. Today, the Seiko brand continues to stand for state-of-the-art technology, as well as superior quality and refined design.
From Humble beginnings, Kintaro Hattoris Vision for Seiko has become reality. A consuming passion for excellence - imprinted in our Corporate DNA passed from generation to generation. Seiko, for 125 years committed to the art and science of time.
A culture of innovation connects a 19th century Tokyo clock shop with 20th century advances in timekeeping to an extraordinary 21st century "quiet revolution." Continually driven by dedication and passion, established a multitude of worlds first technologies transforming the principles of timekeeping.
The first quartz wristwatch changed the history of time.
The first Kinetic marked a new era in quartz watch technology.
In 1969, Seiko Astron, the first quartz wristwatch - was introduced.
In an instant, Seiko exponentially improved the accuracy of wristwatches And Seiko technology firmly established todays standard in Olympic and sports timing.
1984, another celebrated first Kinetic Technology powered by body movement.
Kinetic a quartz mechanism with unparalleled accuracy the driving force behind more worlds firsts.
Kinetic Chronograph the next generation of high performance timekeeping.
Kinetic Auto Relay automatically resets to the correct time.
Kinetic Perpetual - combining the date perfect technology of perpetual calendar with the genius of Kinetic Auto Relay.
And now Kinetic Direct Drive move, and the watch is powered automatically. Or hand wind it and see the power you are generating in real time.
In the realm of fine watches, time is measured by Seiko innovation A heritage of dedication to the art and science of time.

The lume is quite good - not Monster good, but quite good. Charged up at 2000 and face was readable in the dark at 0400.
I initially didn't think a resizing was necessary (i have beefy wrists), but decided to remove a link and use the outside pin on the latch. Link removal was a snap by pushing out a split pin, removing the link, then pushing it back in (follow the arrows; what look like screw heads on the pin ends are not - pins are split). Result? A perfect fit.
Took the watch for a nice half-hour early morning swim in pool. No leak (one might ponder how watertight the compass bezel crown is, but hey, 20 Bar ratings generally mean swimming should be fine?)
All in all, a very nice package. Unlike others, I don't find the compass rotating wildly during wear. Watch has kept quite accurate time so far.
Here's what I don't like: Buying watches on Amazon, especially more expensive watches. Why? Because of the four last watch purchases I've made, I've been burned by receiving previously modified, returned, and gray-market watches stripped of original packing documents. The worst offender was Amazon itself, which shipped me a Seiko Monster that had been obviously returned. Fortunately, all docs were there and the watch was fine. Amazon also shipped me an Orient M-Force with no warranty card, no manual, mangled box, and a watch with a bracelet missing links and modified to fit a child's wrist! Another Amazon purchase of a Seiko 'Ice Monster' via the seller 'E Watch Stock' resulted in a great watch with original stickers but missing a Seiko warranty card (the excuse of the seller is that the warranty is through Amazon - if so, why not include the warranty card? we all know why, don't we?). Finally, this watch, purchased from seller 'Dexclusive' arrived missing a warranty card and a case back without the Seiko protective sticker. These are some things to keep in mind if you purchase through gray-market sellers. In some ways, Amazon could be complicit in the enabling of the accumulation and sale of blank Seiko warranty cards (check a large on-line auction site for such sales) - for what purpose? I think we all know, don't we? Anyway, this would not happen through a purchase from a Seiko dealer. We all like a good deal on a watch, and we all know that the chance of getting a bad Seiko is minimal, but just be aware of what is going on when you buy a watch via Amazon from a seller offering warranty via Amazon.
BTW, i got a sticker in the box saying 'Register for your warranty now!' Went to the web site, entered my info, clicked 'Register,' and got a 'Warranty is through Amazon, see them'-type message. I really wish more folks who post negative reviews on some of these watches would follow up with warranty repair results.

The clasp is secure and locks well so no worries about it sliding off.
As for the watches operation?
Well, setting the time requires a bit of fiddling so that the date changes correctly, as you can end up with it switching to French days of the week but follow the manual and set the date correct for yesterday, then wind forward to the current time and you will be fine.
The compass feature has no instructions in the box, but can be found online. It's a bit complex to attempt to use, and I haven't really bothered trying.
The rotating bezel for the dive timing is useful, and I used it when snorkeling to see how long I had been out.
The hands and numbers are luminous and easily visible when I dived to about 3m,and waterproofing was fine. I didn't scuba dive, so I can't test much more than that. I would trust it to scuba dive though based on the luminosity and 200m rating.
A really nice watch, and fits my average or slightly thin wrist quite nicely.
I can highly recommend.
